The goals. To ride farther and to ride on new trails on the OFSC system. Oh Yeah , the ride has to start in their hometown, Fergus, Ontario and end there.<br /><br />This past weekend they left Fergus at 7:00 am, Friday and headed towards Whitney , just outside of Algonquin Park.<br /><div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div>The trio rode 400km the first day and made it to Whitney at noon on Saturday. Top speed? Lets just say it will run with the best of them. Even sitting in deep slush, when you hit the throttle the 1.5" lug track hooks up and lifts the skis and just hauls. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NwTohRHvkh8/SX6Z324ZM1I/AAAAAAAAAEY/9z8p9vfyVxs/s1600-h/P1010853.JPG"><img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NwTohRHvkh8/SX6Z324ZM1I/AAAAAAAAAEY/9z8p9vfyVxs/s320/P1010853.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5295839396738184018" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px; " /></a></div><div>On the trail, I found the sled hard to turn and non-responsive. The long 141" deep lug track simply overpowers the front end. When running through stutter bumps, the un-coupled rear suspension struggles and the rider pays for it.</div><div><br /></div><div>Surprises? How about 13.5 mpg over the 1000km ride! This from an 800cc motor. The fox Floats up front never faded on the rough trails, the telescopic steering post allows you to change from a sit down to standup riding position on the fly and the engine reverse is a long waited feature Cat riders have been waiting for.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Crossfire chassis is a great boon-docking sled and if you live up in cottage country and spend most of your time running lakes or live out west where your looking for a x-over sled that is a capable in deep snow without having a full blown mtn. sled this just may be what the Dr. ordered.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NwTohRHvkh8/SX35qiDV90I/AAAAAAAAAD4/3ekekX_V6f4/s1600-h/P1010817.JPG"><br /></a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6187429014749987666-4750452066526694381?l=sgc-sleditor.blogspot.com'/></div>Hal Armstronghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03330847447365357443noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6187429014749987666.post-71473115567582168892009-01-19T10:33:00.011-05:002009-01-19T11:11:23.194-05:00CSRA Snow-X in Owen SoundWhile Hal was test riding in central Muskoka, I was over at the Snow-X races in Owen Sound. The Saturday rain has really hurt the trails. But on boxing day we got out and put some miles on.<br />A group of us ran the Seguin trail to the 711 and headed up to Magnetawan. The temp. was -2C trails were hard packed with just a few mud holes to go through. <br /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5284318555277585138" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NwTohRHvkh8/SVWrun9TavI/AAAAAAAAACs/5Dac_eH0b60/s320/P1010658.JPG" border="0" new="" lot="" corners="" carving="" make="" do="" sure="" and="" seat="" through="" gas="" of="" tank="" full="" a="" run="" have="" i="" that="" now="" stronger="" getting="" just="" is="" engine="" switchback="" dragon="" 800="" the="" /><br />The 800 Dragon ran real strong all day. Nail the throttle and the 136" Rip Saw hooks up and you know you have to "Hang on Tight". Almost 200 miles on this sled and the motor is now starting to come alive!<br /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5284321849923984834" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NwTohRHvkh8/SVWuuZeN3cI/AAAAAAAAAC0/tX_PA3Od5BQ/s320/P1010647.JPG" border="0" /><br /><br />The F5 Cat could very well be the best kept secret of 2009. We put 75 miles on it today and the gas guage still showed 3/4 of a tank left. To top it off this sled provides the ultimate in wind protection, handle bar heaters that really work and the design of the hood keeps a persons feet really warm. The best part was it has the 800 CFI engine!<br /><br />While this was the first tank of gas run through the motor, a 150hp plus motor has lots of pull and will only get better as we log more miles over the Xmas holidays. The engine has a nice ring to the exhaust and there is no hesitation in throttle response no matter what your speed. It just pulls on your arms. Hang on!<br /><br />The rest of the machine is very familiar to the 08 Switchback. Same chassis, suspension geometry. The Switchback does not come with the Dragon SP updates. The stream lined belly pan, revised A-arm swaybar package, CNC machined spindles or new rear suspension.<br /><br />The Dragon has a 136" coupled rear suspension, with Ryde-FX remote reservoir rear shock and Arvin 2.0 Air Shocks on the skis. The suspension just works really well.<br /><br /><br />How big or how small is a Switchback compared to a Smart Car. Have a look!<br /><br />Watch more reports to come on this model in future postings.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6187429014749987666-8603724059300040259?l=sgc-sleditor.blogspot.com'/></div>Hal Armstronghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03330847447365357443noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6187429014749987666.post-83522807062095350852008-12-18T21:27:00.003-05:002008-12-18T21:32:58.437-05:00The new Dragon is here! Here is Hal checking the odometer to make sure it reads "ZERO".<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281323167346369474" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_d5lGWT4zNeE/SUsHcGW4o8I/AAAAAAAAAts/fvp5wv9gEeQ/s320/Trail+Preps2008-09+002.jpg" border="0" />If we get that 50cm's of snow they are calling for, you'll see this Dragon on the trails!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6187429014749987666-8352280706209535085?l=sgc-sleditor.blogspot.com'/></div>Phil Moltohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12569614757460559857noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6187429014749987666.post-6424605666440868182008-12-16T21:44:00.011-05:002008-12-16T22:35:36.245-05:00Rental Riding in BC.....<span style="font-weight: bold; font-family: lucida grande;font-family:arial;font-size:130%;" >Well my niece lives in BC and works in the ski hospitality industry (PLUG = <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Panorama</span> </span><st1:place st="on"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-family: lucida grande;font-family:arial;font-size:130%;" ><st1:placename face="lucida grande" st="on"></st1:placename></span><span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;" ><span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:10;" ><span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(0, 51, 0); font-family: lucida grande;font-family:arial;font-size:130%;" ><st1:placetype st="on">Mountain</st1:placetype> </span><st1:placetype st="on"><span style="font-size:100%;"><span style="font-family:lucida grande;"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-family: lucida grande;font-family:arial;font-size:130%;" ><span style="color: rgb(0, 51, 0);">Village</span>), and she went snowmobiling yesterday with a friend on rental sleds.</span><br /></span></span></st1:placetype></span></span></st1:place><st1:place st="on"><span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:85%;" ><span style=";font-family:Arial;font-size:10;" ><st1:placetype st="on"><span style="font-size:100%;"><span style="font-family:lucida grande;"><br /></span></span></st1:placetype></span></span></st1:place><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_d5lGWT4zNeE/SUhpzTNTnTI/AAAAAAAAAtM/NFirdiizTsk/s1600-h/BCRentalFleet.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_d5lGWT4zNeE/SUhpzTNTnTI/AAAAAAAAAtM/NFirdiizTsk/s320/BCRentalFleet.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280586893142236466" border="0" /></a><span style=";font-family:arial;font-size:130%;" >Now that's a nice fleet of sleds.......all fired up and ready to roll.</span><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_d5lGWT4zNeE/SUhpfhjeWAI/AAAAAAAAAtE/SeK6QzQFlLE/s1600-h/BCRentalsWS.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_d5lGWT4zNeE/SUhpfhjeWAI/AAAAAAAAAtE/SeK6QzQFlLE/s320/BCRentalsWS.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280586553395927042" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">I don't think you get a nicer backdrop for a morning start!</span><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_d5lGWT4zNeE/SUhs3jzRGOI/AAAAAAAAAtc/xxm3jcQiRa0/s1600-h/Niece%2BSled.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_d5lGWT4zNeE/SUhs3jzRGOI/AAAAAAAAAtc/xxm3jcQiRa0/s320/Niece%2BSled.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280590264850782434" border="0" /></a><span style="font-weight: bold;">Yeah, that's right, you've got lots a fresh mountain snow and I'm 5,000 KM's away!
