Nothing else on the boob tube spoke to me in that time slot. I have to say, I'm enjoying Adam Lambert (or Glambert as they call him on TWoP) quite a lot. I've always been a sucker for guy liner and the boy rocks it big time. Without him, I doubt I'd have stuck around for more than an episode or two.<br /><br />Yeah, he's over the top, screamy, theatrical and all the other stuff that Simon says about him, but I have to give props to anyone who dares add a Middle Eastern/serpentine-ish flair to an iconic C&W song like <span style="font-weight: bold;">Ring of Fire</span>, especially on a show like Idol. Over the top and overwrought doesn't begin to describe it. Loved it.<br /><br />Then he goes and performs <span style="font-weight: bold;">Mad World</span> by Tears for Fears, and even though it's the <span style="font-style: italic;">Donnie Darko</span> version, I give him mad (!) props for choosing one of my beloved eighties songs from one of my beloved eighties bands. Floved it.<br /><br />Last night he gave an electro-clash edge to another iconic song, <span style="font-weight: bold;">Born to be Wild</span>, and I kind of dug that, too.<br /><br />Outside Idol, I'm not sure I'd be that big of a fan because I've a feeling our musical tastes wouldn't mesh over the long haul. But within the confines of a show like this, he's a breath of fresh air.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6157673130604591781-7359790146437309134?l=www.amandastevens.com%2Fblog.html'/></div>Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06442633312669946321noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6157673130604591781.post-77425239112815183732009-04-12T18:01:00.004-05:002009-04-12T18:05:51.553-05:00Long, beautiful hair...I've been thinking about getting hair extensions for all the writing conferences coming up, but sometimes they just look so...fake.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.amandastevens.com/uploaded_images/article-1168459-045A8D01000005DC-142_634x665-709920.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 305px; height: 320px;" src="http://www.amandastevens.com/uploaded_images/article-1168459-045A8D01000005DC-142_634x665-709917.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.amandastevens.com/uploaded_images/article-1168459-045A8CE9000005DC-320_634x707-709901.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 287px; height: 320px;" src="http://www.amandastevens.com/uploaded_images/article-1168459-045A8CE9000005DC-320_634x707-709897.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.amandastevens.com/uploaded_images/article-1168459-045A8CF6000005DC-137_634x756-775546.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 268px; height: 320px;" src="http://www.amandastevens.com/uploaded_images/article-1168459-045A8CF6000005DC-137_634x756-775542.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6157673130604591781-7742523911281518373?l=www.amandastevens.com%2Fblog.html'/></div>Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06442633312669946321noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6157673130604591781.post-61083427760808679642009-04-08T01:18:00.001-05:002009-04-08T01:20:18.168-05:00Clive Owen Wednesday<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.amandastevens.com/uploaded_images/A2G7M1P_large-784184.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 243px; height: 320px;" src="http://www.amandastevens.com/uploaded_images/A2G7M1P_large-784180.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />I'll say!<br /><br /><br />P.S. After seeing Robert Downey Jr. as Ironman (currently, my favorite super hero movie), I have no trouble buying him in a physical role. However, Jude Law as a "bruiser"...well, let's just say, I'm trying to keep an open mind. I do love these pictures of the pair. I love most all the Dr. Suess tales, including the classics: <span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;">The Cat in the Hat</span></span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Horton Hears a Who!</span>, <span style="font-style: italic;">Green Eggs and Ham</span>. But my absolute favorite is <span style="font-style: italic;">I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew</span><br /><br />Borrowing Wikipedia's description--This is a tale of a young person who discovers the troubles of life and wishes to escape them. Through a series of adventures experienced when trying to reach the mythical city of the title ("where they never have troubles/at least very few") the protagonist comes to realize that he must face his problems instead of running away from them.<br /><br />I used to read this book to my twins when they were little, and I always thought the underlying message was beautifully subtle and yet quite powerful.<br /><br />According to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Had_Trouble_in_Getting_to_Solla_Sollew">Wiki</a>, the protagonist's yearning for Solla-Sollew, and his difficulties in getting there, foreshadow a darker phase of Seuss's writing. I'm all about the dark, so I suppose it's little wonder that I'm drawn to this book over his previous works.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6157673130604591781-2664000557959153094?l=www.amandastevens.com%2Fblog.html'/></div>Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06442633312669946321noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6157673130604591781.post-62622433796694984522009-02-25T14:02:00.000-06:002009-02-25T14:06:10.989-06:00Wrong!If my twenty-five-year obsession with Depeche Mode is wrong, I don't want to be right.
