Sam was even par through 54 holes but shot a sweet round of 4 under on the final day to come in at -4, only 7 strokes behind the eventual winner, Mina Harigae. I've been plagued with a nasty slice for years & nothing I tried seemed to work so I'd resigned myself to the fact that this f***ing slice was my destiny. I took no lessons but one day I drew the ball & couldn't believe it. It had to be a mis-hit but I kept drawing the ball! I was fearful that the next time I golfed the slice would reappear but it didn't & now I'm playing better than ever.

Now when we hold our Tattoo Golf tournament I'll be able to hold my own with the rest of the crew - thank the golf Gods!

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-28868091221803830292009-05-23T08:25:00.000-07:002009-05-23T08:33:02.834-07:00Here's a cool review of our new Pitchmaster Divot Tool from Tony Korologos of www.hookedongolfblog.com.

Tattoo Golf PitchMaster Divot Tool Review
May 22nd, 2009

Tattoo Golf is one of my all time favorite golf companies. Anyone who can mix skulls and cross bones with golf is cool in my book.
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 64px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/ShgWUcIoCkI/AAAAAAAAAO4/ydfOwUWwl1c/s200/HOG+-+pitchmaster.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339041898653289026" />

Tattoo Golf Pitchmaster

Tattoo Golf does it again. TG has a huge product line of hard edged golf items from shirts to golf bags. Now we can add one of the manliest ball repair tools known to man to the TG product line.

The Tattoo Golf PitchMaster is made out of stainless steel, so it won’t rust. The blades are retractable and there’s a magnetic ball marker on the back. Of course, all of the components sport the trademark “skull and golf bones.”

Features:

Small, perfectly formed and it fits in your pocket, the PitchMaster Divot Tool features are quality crafted to be durable and easy to use so you can repair pitch marks with minimum effort and get the most out of your game on the green.
Makes Pitch Repair Quick & Easy
Fully Retractable Fold Away Blades
Superb Quality & Rust Proof Stainless Steel
Lifetime Guarantee
Critiques

I’ve loaned this unit to a couple of pals to get their opinions. Both said this was a bit heavy and that they wouldn’t want it in their pockets. Personally, the weight doesn’t bother me. I just told my pals that my wallet, with all the cash in it, counter balanced the divot tool.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 95px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/ShgW3rqUGVI/AAAAAAAAAPA/YE8_70Qvg9M/s200/HOG+-+pitchmaster+-+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5339042504116541778" />
On the course

The fact that the blades are retractable is great. Many times I’ve poked myself in the groin or close due to a divot tool pointing the wrong way in my pocket. This won’t happen with the PitchMaster.

The thick forks really make a big difference and make it much easier to fix my ball marks, of which I hope there are many (meaning I didn’t miss the green).

The TG ball marker is a bonus addition which comes in handy.

Conclusion

It is hard to write an extended review on a divot tool, but this unit is great and I strongly recommend it! For $14.99 you’ll get a very strong and durable divot tool which is most definitely cooler than any other out there.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-33669845712403981302009-05-22T11:37:00.000-07:002009-05-22T11:46:54.501-07:00Pro V1x Golf Balls from Tattoo GolfWe received a lot of feedback from our customers requesting a high quality ball so here ya go - Titleist Pro V1x's with the Tattoo Golf Skull & Crossed Clubs design! I swear, finding women’s golf clothes with any style is so hard. I found this Tattoo Golf Pack for women that I really like because it’s style is more alternative but still golf course appropriate. The polo shirt in the pack is Poly-Dri which is awesome because it helps keep you cool, and for your second shirt you can choose whether you want a T-shirt or tank. The Ladies Pack also comes with a skull golf hat, black hemmed and embroidered golf towel, golf divot tool with magnetic ball marker and 20 tees.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-37221558171173799232009-03-11T15:17:00.000-07:002009-03-11T15:33:07.406-07:00On the Road with Tattoo Golf - to San JoseWe loaded up the Tattoo Golf Tour Van & headed to San Jose last Thursday for a golf show at the San Jose Convention Center. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/Sbg44d4s4HI/AAAAAAAAAOI/mrnLGn3ive4/s200/van+on+the+way+to+SJ.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312058303229780082" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/Sbg67annQaI/AAAAAAAAAOg/cTrOzPuIIIk/s200/Lunch+break.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312060552915665314" />

It's about 5 1/2 hours from L.A. to San Jose taking the 5 straight up so we got there around 2 on Thursday & set up most of the booth. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/Sbg5ytK4udI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/37wnQjyII-g/s200/San+Jose+-+setting+up.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312059303764998610" />To say the show sucked would be an understatement! 1st, the show was at the "convention center" but it was more like the "convention center tent annex" since it took place in a massive, permanent tent. The attendance was light which obviously means sales will be light, which they were. When all was said & done it was definitely not a money making trip & to top it off, there's not a helluva lot to do in San Jose at night! Beers at Applebees was about the only game in town unfortunately. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/Sbg6xFv7f8I/AAAAAAAAAOY/ZBr13jRY47c/s200/middle+of+BF+nowhere.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312060375514709954" /> Needless to say, we won't be making that trip again unless the booth is free! On the other hand, we did get a chance to meet a bunch of cool people at the show & got to expose Tattoo Golf clothing to an entirely new audience so I suppose that accounts for something!

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-26227813112536793652009-03-11T15:03:00.000-07:002009-03-11T15:17:22.870-07:00Rachel Bailey Plays 9 Holes with Greg from Tattoo Golf<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/Sbg35WcIwmI/AAAAAAAAAOA/AQ9QXJUUGgY/s200/Rachel+%26+Greg.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312057218899165794" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/Sbg3yAcxk6I/AAAAAAAAAN4/5A4KgzJETSs/s200/Rachel+%26+Lay.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312057092737176482" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/Sbg3qfeMOsI/AAAAAAAAANw/beHxN-W12xY/s200/Rachel+(6).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312056963625663170" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/Sbg3jVWHkXI/AAAAAAAAANo/SYvdVAmP1Vo/s200/Rachel+(5).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312056840648364402" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/Sbg3WDxGLTI/AAAAAAAAANg/74cB8b5sxVY/s200/Rachel+(2).JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5312056612591381810" />

I had the pleasure to meet Australian golf pro Rachel Bailey last week for lunch and 9 holes at Chevy Chase. Rachel is a fully exempt, status A-1 player on the Duramed Futures tour this year and if her play the other day is any indication, she could very well be on her way to the ladies big show in the not-so-distant future! Shooting 2 under through 9 holes on a quirky course that she'd never set foot on is quite an accomplishment. Every shot was pure & the only slip up I saw was a chip shot that landed short but she got up & down for par so no harm done. These damn wood chips at my club are something she's probably never faced or will have to face on the manicured courses she'll be playing on so I'm thinking she very well could have gone 3 under if not for that shot! Her friend Lai eagled the hardest hole on the course by flying her approach in for a 2 from about 130 out. She was also hitting off dirt under a tree well so a remarkable shot all around. Lai is also fully exempt this year & I have apologize for not knowing her last name!!

Rachel will be sporting Tattoo Golf gear for the 2009 season so keep an eye out for her this year. We'll be posting her results as she moves throught the season as well.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-63794411904735724812009-01-12T20:18:00.000-08:002009-01-12T20:36:15.208-08:00Ogilvy Wins - Shaw LosesGeoff Ogilvy went wire-to-wire to win the season opener in Kapalua this past weekend. He actually was 6 clear of the field when the day started but gave back 5 to hold only a 1 stroke lead after nine but then he pulled it out & started playing again to finish at 24 under, 6 ahead of 2nd place Anthony Kim.

But the real action this weekend was at Chevy Chase CC where my club held its Ryder Cup format style tournament for the top 24 point earners from all '08 tourneys. Playing without my Tattoo Golf gear was a bit of a change for me & seemed to have a negative impact on my game! We played 3 9 hole matches with different partners on Saturday & I actually won all 3 matches so right there I contributed 3 points to my team. Putting was rock solid, the driving sucked, irons were inconsistent & chipping hit & miss. On Sunday we played individual 18 hole matches & my opponent & I were going head to head since we both have the same handicap.

I never got more than 1 up but thought that would be enough but I just couldn't hang & ended up losing the match & point. Fortunately our team ended up pulling out the victory 16 - 14 to win the Chevy Cup! Great fun. If you don't play in tournaments - you should, they're a blast & they're open to all skill levels with handicaps in place to even the playing field.

This Saturday is the Booze Shoot tourney which as the name implies will consist of much drinking & bottles of booze for all participants!

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-13935671235681597982009-01-09T09:39:00.000-08:002009-01-09T09:54:13.339-08:00Happy New Year!!Tattoo Golf had record sales last year despite the best efforts of the US economy to derail our plans! Makes you wonder what could have been had the financial markets not imploded? Anyway, I'm excited about the new year & looking forward to growing the TG brand & spreading our unique style of golf gear across the globe.

I'm also excited about the start of the PGA '09 season! I've played in Kapalua before on both the Bay & Plantation courses & it's one helleva tough round when the winds start whipping. Although on the final hole at the Plantation course I had my one & only 350+ yard drive & actually carded a par - one of the few that day. I guess I should mention that the hone slopes like 45 degrees so if you hit it straight, it will roll all day - but that's besides the point.

This weekend I'm playing in the year-ending tournament at my club that consists of the top 24 point earners from all 2008 tournaments. It's a Ryder Cup format with teams of 12 players competing in 2 man teams for 3 9 hole rounds on Saturday then individual matches of 18 holes on Sunday. We've got team uniforms so it will be the first time in years that I'll be teeing off in non-TG gear! Should be interesting.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-54138418419735288902008-10-30T09:36:00.000-07:002008-10-30T09:49:33.368-07:00Golf Show Wrap UpWe wrapped up the So. Cal. Golf Show this past weekend and given the f***ed up situation of our economy these days, it was actually quite a successful show for us. The attendance was definitely down for the entire event but we had a steady crowd at the Tattoo Golf booth so we're thankful for that! Thanks to all our old friends who stopped by to say hello. Cal Golf Show so if you're in the neighborhood, stop on in & say hello. We love doing these golf shows because it gives us a chance to hang out with fellow golf freaks & talk about golf for 8 hours a day! We've been doing these shows for a few years now & have made some good friends with some of the other vendors so it's always fun to see them & catch up on things. Check out this shot of the newly expanded Tattoo Golf booth -we've gone double wide!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 140px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/SQMeTEvaAYI/AAAAAAAAAM0/4a33WRB7oWY/s200/Pomona2008-lo.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261082102737797506" />

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-52501502265136079572008-10-21T07:20:00.000-07:002008-10-21T08:12:56.912-07:00Tiger Woods Returns to Torry PinesI'm not into caddies & would rather play my own game without having someone hover over me watching, secretly mocking each stroke but I would have gladly made an exception & trade places with 59 year old John Abel. Abel was the winner of the "Tee Off With Tiger" contest hosted by Buick during this past U.S. Open & he got the services of Caddie Tiger for the back 9 nine of the South Course! How sweet (and nerve shattering) would that be to have Tiger caddy for you?? I just can't help imagining if I'd won this contest (I did enter) & then show up fully decked out in Tattoo Golf gear, how fun would that be!? Now that would be a priceless photo.

Tiger drove the cart, handed Abel clubs & helped read putts while wearing a caddies bib with John Abel's name on it. If that alone wouldn't be nerve-racking enough, the entire round was captured on video & reporters & other media were allowed to watch the 10th & 18th hole action.

Tiger reminisced with Abel about his victory only 4 months ago and he said to reporters that he felt fine & was able to hit chip shots & hopes to start hitting longer clubs at the beginning of the year. Obviously he'd like to come back to defend at the Buick in early February but he said he's not sure if that's a realistic goal or not. He's won it 4 years in a row so I'm guessing he'll do whatever it takes to get ready.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-10105810198261703152008-10-21T07:15:00.000-07:002008-10-21T07:20:28.274-07:00Tournament UpdateWell the Junior / Senior tourney didn't go as well as I was hoping it would - came in second to last! My partner was a 78 year old guy with a 24 handicap but seemed to be playing to a 44 & I wasn't much help so together we limped in with a net even par. With all the strokes we got between us, we couldn't get under par & believe me, it was a struggle just to maintain par.

But the bottom line is that it was a beautiful 80 degree day of golf in sunny So. Cal!! Can't beat that.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-5535057164581229062008-10-16T08:47:00.001-07:002008-10-16T08:57:43.699-07:00Tournament LifeThe slacker blogger is back & going to try to keep current this time around! Last months tournament at my club was a disaster for me - I felt like the Dodgers must feel right now - so close & yet so far! It was the Club Championship & the event was broken into 4 flights. The A flight were playing scratch & the winner here would become the overall club champion. Unfortunately my game is nowhere near this level so I was in flight D! All flight winners received sweet trophies which I desperately wanted. I won my first 3 matches so on the last Sunday of the 2 weekend tournament I faced off against an old timer with a 36 handicap! All flights except A play net golf so I'm giving him 9 strokes. I played beautifully for the 1st 3 rounds & far below my handicap but in the final round I played like a jackass. Spraying balls all over the place while the old timer just keep punching it up the middle of the fairway. I was 5 down at one point but got it down to 2 w/ 2 to play. 17th hole & I'm on the green so just need a 2 putt to win the hole. While I'm normally a great putter, this one I blew by 15 feet (to my defense, it was a 50 footer). Missed the comebacker & lost it right then & there. I thought the Tattoo Golf attire would intimidate the old man but I guess not!! Oh well, it's probably the old timer's last major tourney & I've got another 40 years in me - I hope!

This Saturday is the Junior/Senior 1 day tourney so will report back next week. Got to

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-89634442562031318762008-08-12T13:14:00.000-07:002008-08-12T13:37:55.160-07:00Tattoo Golf Products Reviewed on Golfwrx.comTattoo Golf Clothing
By Apryl DeLancey
Originally posted on www.golfwrx.com

Based in Southern California, Tattoo Golf has golf apparel and accessories with a bit of an attitude. Inspired by tattoo designs and current fashion trends, founder Bill Anderson decided that it was time to do something besides the traditional golf attire one day after a round. Initially starting online from his Burbank home about seven years ago, the company is now carried in select pro shops around the country and has an online store. You can almost guarantee to see the Bill and partner Greg Shaw at a booth for the Southern California golf shows a few times a year as well. Oh yeah, and Bill’s about a ten handicapper and serious about his game.

The label is targeting “a young-minded golfer who is dissatisfied with the golf clothing that’s found out in the market today. They are looking for something fun, different, and a bit edgy to set themselves apart from the crowd. They probably don’t buy much, if any, golf apparel in pro shops or golf stores because it’s not their thing.” And no, you don’t need tattoos to wear the line. I’ve seen golfers with and without ink that wear their clothes. The demographic for the line is mainly men and women 25-45 that want something different in their golf attire.

Besides golf shirts they carry tees, sweatshirts, tanks, covers, balls, hats, and other accessories. There are styles for both men and women and they come out with new designs regularly. The men’s argyle design has been their most popular golf shirt so far. If you really like their look, you can pick up one of their golf value packs that come with a variety of products. They also carry Alias Golf Shoes on their site, which tout a “no break-in period”.

I recently tried their new “La Jolla” golf shirt for women in orange when I was playing in the desert. Even though it was about 105°F outside, the shirt never got sticky or felt cumbersome. After the round, I wasn’t wet and cold when walking into the heavily air conditioned buildings. Other than moisture wicking, the shirt has an antibacterial finish and can go right into the washing machine and dryer. My husband wore the men’s “Santa Cruz” and was equally comfortable. This design also features moisture-wicking fabric and is lightweight. We both have hats, tees, and divot tools from Tattoo Golf with their signature skull and crossclubs design as well. I’ve got their driver cover in black also, which fits up to a 460cc head and matches my bag quite nicely. This driver cover has the magnetic closure so the club slips in and out with ease.

Take a look at their website and sign up for the newsletter while you’re there and check out the “Shots in the Rough” section. Fans of Tattoo Golf send in pictures of themselves wearing the clothes and of their golf-themed tattoos. If you’re looking for an alternative to the norm, this is your clothing line.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-46408709593026656832008-08-12T09:20:00.000-07:002008-08-12T13:14:44.136-07:00Another Strong Finish for HarringtonPadraig Harrington wrapped up the '08 majors season with his 2nd come-from-behind victory in a row to win the PGA Championship by 2 strokes over Ben Curtis & Sergio "The Crumbler" Garcia.

Curtis was looking solid for a while, making key putts when needed but unfortunately for him things got a bit bumpy down the stretch & Garcia & Harrington were able to pull even & pass. Garcia came out firing with a birdie, eagle start on holes 1 & 2 to quickly get into contention. Harrington turned it on late with 4 birdies & just 1bogie for a 32 over the final 9 while Garcia went 2 over & Curtis 1 over on the final 9.

When asked if he was disappointed about coming so close once again in a Major, Garcia responded "Why are you making this a disappointment.....When you give it your best and the end result is not what you wish for, it's hard, but you feel good." Riiiight. Whatever he needs to say to feel better is fine but to say he's not disappointed is a crock!

But how about Harrington?! He's won 3 of the last 6 majors played & is only the 4th player to ever win both the British Open and the PGA in the same year, both very Tigerlike statistics.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-2723308312695269022008-08-01T09:54:00.000-07:002008-12-08T18:19:19.335-08:00New Tattoo Golf GearNew Tattoo Golf Gear!!

Celebrate Summer with some exciting new items from Tattoo Golf! She's an adult now so more than capable of making her own decisions and yes, she's made another bad one by agreeing to play in this weekends PGA tournament in Reno. Journeyman Jay Williamson asked if it was a joke when told of her plans to play in yet another men's event. Well it's not a joke Jay. Considering she's not even a threat to win in LPGA events, what on earth is there to gain from going against the men again? Before she turned 18 it could be argued that her over-protective parents were guiding her but can that still be the case? She won't make the cut, she'll more than likely be in dead last place as usual & she'll leave in tears once more.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-25885932846589729812008-07-29T13:57:00.000-07:002008-07-29T14:06:07.676-07:00Short Hitter Reavie is Long on TalentRookie Chez Reavie won the Canadian open by 3 shots over Billy Mayfair & pocketed a nice $900,000 check in the process. I have to be honest when saying I'd never heard of Reavie until this past weekend but I think we'll be hearing a lot from in over the next few years. The guy is not a long hitter but more than made up for it with his accuracy by hitting 54 of 72 fairways in regulation. His playing partner, Anthony Kim, never got in the groove and followed up his third round 64 with a 75 to end up tied for 8th. Reavie couldn't have looked cooler under what must have been tremendous pressure for a rookie looking for his first win. He hit some beautiful shots to hold his lead & never once looked anything but in total control. Perhaps more important than the awesome payday is the fact that he's now got his tour card locked up for the next 2 years and will be getting an invite to Augusta next spring.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-5241572653703553752008-07-25T08:01:00.000-07:002008-12-08T18:19:19.785-08:00New Golf Shirts from Tattoo Golf!!Newsletter from Tattoo Golf

Hot New Shirts!!!!

Just in time for summer, our exciting new La Jolla Polo shirts for the ladies. Their apparel was pretty wild and I posted a blog submission on GolfConnection.com.

My quote was “My grandpa is rolling in his grave because gone are the days of izod golf shirts, argyle socks and pastel golf pants.”

This golf apparel company is shaking things up and bringing a little attitude and spunk to the game of golf. Let me paint the picture, Hell’s Angels just joined your foursome.

Initially, I got a good chuckle and thought the company had an interesting niche since I have seen my share of Harley shirt wearing golfers in my beer drinking golf leagues.

Ironically, shortly after posting the blog article about Tattoo Golf, I received an email from Greg Shaw, one of the partners of the company. He agreed to an interview as he wanted to share with the golfing world what his company was all about.

Interview Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: Greg, thanks for taking a moment to chat with me. Can you share with me a brief history of the company and how the idea got started?

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: My partner, Bill Anderson, started the company about 7 years ago because he was fed up with the one-dimensional look of golf apparel and the fact that there was nothing in the market that could truly express his style & personality. He's a 10 handicapper who sports tattoos and would be considered a "non-traditional" golfer because of his looks & clothing.

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: And the logo?

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: The skull & crossed clubs became the company's main design and upon seeing it, it leaves no question as to what the company is all about.

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: When did you join the company?

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: I joined as a partner 2 years ago and in that time we've retooled the website, added tons of new products, started exhibiting at shows and we're now aggressively expanding our wholesale business.

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: Many of your products are unique, what type of golfers are you trying to target? And what has been the reaction to your products?

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: I think our entire line is unique just for the fact that there is nothing else in the market like it. We have the whole aggressive look going with the skull & crossed clubs design but we also have top-quality merchandise so it's not just for looks, it's also extremely functional. Many of our polo shirts feature our Poly-dri fabric which is a very breathable material that wicks moisture away from the body & keeps you cool. All our headgear is from Flexfit who are tops the business.

Our core audience is both men and women between the ages of 20 and 45 who are looking for something different, fun, a bit edgy, and more importantly, something that sets them apart from everybody else.

We have a whole pack of hardcore, diehard fans and to give you an idea of what I mean by this, as of today we have 5, that we know of, customers who have actually tattooed our logo on their bodies!

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: Seriously???

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: I am not kidding? You can check out our Shots in the Rough page on our website to see them all.

(Side Note: I did verify it at www.tattoogolf.com/shots-in-the-rough-s/42.htm)

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: Now that is brand loyalty!

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: Yes! (Big chuckle) I seriously doubt that anybody's been passionate enough about Ashworth to get a tattoo of their logo!

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: Now I am offended, I have one tattooed on my shoulder?

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: Really?

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: No! Obviously I am joking. (Pause for some laughs)

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: Well, we do sell temporary tattoos for those who love our brand and want to show off some extra attitude on the course. You can find them in our catalog section of our website at www.tattoogolf.com.

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: So what’s new for 2008? Anything coming down the pike you can share?

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: So far in '08 we've introduced our Argyle design in a Poly-dri polo as well as t-shirts. We've also added driver covers, putter covers, golf balls and bags to our accessories line. We're currently working on a new design that will be featured on polos and hats and will be an alternative to our skull design. This will be out for summer of 2008.

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: I ordered a hat and shirt and must say I love the quality and the style of the grey argyle polo shirt! Where can our readers find your products?

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: Yes, that shirt is one of our popular ones.

Our catalog can be found online at www.tattoogolf.com. Please let your readers know that when they can come to our website to order, they should enter coupon code j3off10 to receive a 10% discount.

Brian Weis – GolfConnection.com: Greg, thanks for the offer and your time!

Greg Shaw – Tattoo Golf: Anytime, thanks Brian.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6110804971050528256.post-43873183994116761612008-04-19T11:11:00.000-07:002008-12-08T18:19:20.059-08:00Golf Bags from Tattoo Golf<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/SAo3c1WhKiI/AAAAAAAAAI4/iKfBwE5wLzM/s200/QO-L+with+logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191022488995310114" />
We've received tons of requests for Golf Bags and have finally got it done! Appalled with the horrendous choices in golfing attire, founder Bill Anderson made a point to change that hideous fact forever. The company's roots began with Anderson selling the line from his Burbank home from a simple web page. Since then, they have been a fixture at events and on courses everywhere. Greg Shaw, who joined Tattoo Golf in May 2006 was gracious enough to answer 5 questions for me about my favorite golf apparel company, golf, and the state of its fashion:

1. How much resistance do you get from the bigger chain stores and the pretentious golfers? Has it been an uphill climb to get into the more conservative areas? For example, how much penetration do you have outside of Southern California?

The Tattoo Golf line is targeting a young-minded golfer who is dissatisfied with the golf clothing that's found out in the market today. They are looking for something fun, different, and a bit edgy to set themselves apart from the crowd. They probably don't buy much, if any, golf apparel in pro shops or golf stores because it's not their thing but we're working on changing that. One fact we're very proud of is that every retailer we've sold to has reordered! This tells me our product is selling but getting chain store buyers to understand this and carry our line is proving more difficult than we expected - but we're not giving up. I think when you deal with older buyers there's a perception that our line is strictly for the fringe element but it's not! You don't need tattoos to wear our line! We've obviously been concentrating our wholesale efforts to So. Cal. but we have a few accounts in other states and have a new Mid-West sales rep who is starting to do a great job for us.

2. Why do you think it is taking so long for golf to loosen up? What do you think it will take to make the sport more accessible? Is golf destined to forever be a "rich guy" or "country club" sport?

I actually think the sport is more accessible now than ever before which has brought a flood of new, younger golfers out onto courses throughout the U.S. Once the cost of clubs is out of the way, a round of golf at a muni course won't set you back all that much and outside of California, the prices really drop to play a round so our customer base is definitely growing.

3. Do you have any pros that you sponsor now? Have you tried? Is this also a challenge to be taken seriously by the golfing elite?

We don't have any touring pros wearing our gear now but we're working on it! We could outfit them with clothing but at this stage of our company’s life it wouldn't be possible to be a cash sponsor but one day..... As far as golfing's elite taking us seriously, we were approached by LPGA rookie Mollie Fankhauser who said she absolutely loves our line so we're working with her to get some hats & shirts out to her which hopefully she's wearing when she wins her first tournament.

4. Where does the company get inspiration for designs? Tattoo art? How many tattoos do you guys have? While we are on the subject, why does everyone look at tattooed golfers like we are going to rob them on the driving range?

Everybody loves skulls so the main design of the wicked looking skull with crossed clubs was a natural for us. We do look at tattoo art for inspiration and also follow current fashion trends to capitalize on the “what's hot” at the moment. Last year we started seeing argyle designs again so we jumped in with a Tattoo Golf version of the argyle pattern and it quickly became our best selling shirt. My partner Bill has the tattoos, I'm the virgin! As far as getting robbed on the driving range, I guess it's still surprising to see tattooed people playing golf or maybe they're wondering where they put their golf clubs on the chopper?
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ge6nQOQEgc4/R793y_fF5vI/AAAAAAAAAHo/XmNi_ETW29A/s200/Argyle+-+black+_lowres.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5169982615163627250" />
5. What do you believe has been the most defining moment in golf history in the last few decades? What do you think the next big thing will be?

I hate to say it but I think Tiger has changed the industry forever. He's increased viewership in PGA televised golf so much that tournament purses have exploded making every player in the top 150 a millionaire. He's brought an unimaginable number of new, young golfers to the game and he's also made the game so cool that everyone wants in on the action. I've always golfed but in the past decade I've know many friends who've picked it up because they feel like they're missing out on something! In high school it was considered nerdy to be on the golf team but those days are long gone. Tattoo Golf's the next big thing for sure!

Check out Tattoo Golf's web page here.

Tattoo Golfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04216259685560432001noreply@blogger.com0
