Early Morning Shouts are back!!

24th March - 03:00 hrs approx - RTC A12 Southbound - Capel St Mary - with Princes Street 01 and 05 (PRT). 4 females involved - brand new 07 ford. All casualties not life threatening luckily!

25th March - 03:00 approx (04:00 with clock change) Smoke Seen, Gallows Hill, Hadleigh - on arrival 3-4 allotments sheds in 2 separate locations are on fire - Matt "makes pumps two" - Princes Street are called - hydrant layed out, 2 HRJs, susp, edf reqd for overhead power cables, omode.

Princes Street leave - "and then the fun start.........or maybe not!!!" Hey Bloss!

I will say no more than, an hour or so later, we are still at the incident and a Unimog from Bury is enroute along with workshops - we arrive back at Station approx 4 hours after time of call. Thanks Bury & Workshops - enough said!

Comic Relief Event - Success

Hadleigh's Comic Relief Event is a success, donations have come in thick and fast from generous members of the local community, some even donating as much as £10 to have one photo taken with the Crew. A BIG thank you to all our donators, especially those who turned up for us today and brought cakes, fire helmets and donated money for the pictures to be taken with the crew.

The East Anglian Daily Times were at the event and photos were taken around 1230pm so if you were there, your pics may appear in the next day or so.

BBC Radio Suffolk, publicised the event and were after a live interview with one of the crew, as yet I have not received an update to see if this occurred or not.

Early Morning - A1071 Hintlesham - Just What We Need on Comic Relief Day...

This morning a good nights sleep was planned by all ready for our Comic Relief event, however 3:30am and up we all get to be sent to the A1071 Hintlesham, to deal with a large number of haybales well alight.

Moving Day

Moving Day is drawing closer and there is still a lot to do in the Willings
household - apart from the fact that I feel dreadful and have been on
tablets for 2 days now!

More packing still to do, change of addresses etc are all pretty much
complete

Trod in dogs muck this morning and walked in the house - really Pees me off
when people can't clear up after themselves or their dogs - I will catch one
of them one day - then all hell will break loose!!

Hadleigh Firefighters Christmas Do took place at "The Elizabeth Hotel", Copdock yesterday 2/12/06 - the night was a success, with a good meal, surprisingly a "funny" comedian this time and a few drinks and laughs.

In attendance were:

Matt & Sophie Barber, Dale & Louise Willings, Steve & Angela Tampion, Pete & Nikki Grant, Tom & Kim Robinson, Jason Folkard & Holly Bryant, Lee Blake & Krysti, Tony & Wendy Faulkner, Paul Barton & Lynn, Davey & Helen Everett - actually the only person missing was newbie Steve Horsley - as I understand he was either working or babysitting!

Latest News, is that a post has gone in the Hadleigh Community News from a local resident condemning the plans to put Hadleigh Fire Station opposite Buyright - air your views here on in our forum section - for or against!

Tesco slip a leaflet through our doors - for or against - looks like battle is set to commence!

Hadleigh's latest incident was a nasty RTC (Road Traffic Collision) at Gandish Road, East Bergholt last night involving 2 cars - Hadleigh, Princes Street (Ipswich) and Colchester attended and cut 3 people out of 1 vehicle, the 3 casualties were then conveyed to hospital in 3 separate ambulances. Due to the sensitive nature of all incidents - no further details will be published - other than date, whereabouts and a brief description of what occurred.

Have you ever thought of who firefighters really are and what they really do?

When you see firefighters – people from every background, some not long out of school and some with years of job experience – working on the front line, you're seeing trained professionals with all kinds of skills. Technical skills, people skills, casualty care skills, management and leadership skills, risk assessment and fire prevention skills.

Not all firefighters are full-time people concentrating on firefighting as their only career. Many, particularly in rural areas, are part-time following a career in their own chosen field. Part-time firefighters are a vital part of today's fire & rescue service. They provide an efficient, cost-effective service that gives emergency cover to more than 90 per cent of the UK.

There is a shortage of part-time firefighters in your * area.

Would you be interested in joining a well trained team to help others in your community?

Part-time firefighters follow their normal day to day job and respond to their local fire station when alerted by pager for an emergency, night and day. You will need to live and/or work reasonably near the fire station. You would also be required to attend a training night for two hours each week. In return you would be paid a retaining fee along with additional payment for every incident attended. The hours of your availability can be discussed and agreed with the Fire Service, subject to local crewing needs. Many people who are unemployed are also attracted to this worthwhile commitment.

There is no distinction between men/women of the same rank on the fireground, whether they are wholetime or part-time personnel. Women and ethnic minorities are particularly under represented and Suffolk Fire Service would be pleased to receive an interest from those groups.

There are, of course, basic entry requirements to meet. To join any fire service you must:

· be at least 18 years old

have good eyesight (some correction is acceptable)

have a good level of all-round fitness (which can be tested scientifically)

be able to pass written and practical tests

Firefighters have respect in the community because people see that whatever we're doing, we're always doing it for someone else.

In reality, only one out of every five calls to the Fire & Rescue service is about a fire. Firefighters deal with many other kinds of emergency and non-emergency situations, all demanding different skills and knowledge. The work includes pumping out flood water, attending chemical spills and helping at road, rail and air crashes – including emergency casualty care. Fire fighters also rescue people who are trapped in buildings and lifts.

The work of a firefighter can't be done with just strength and bravery – it takes skill and teamwork. Of course, the Fire & Rescue service needs to break down doors in an emergency, but this is a matter of technique rather than strength. By employing the right techniques, most of us can learn how to lift things that are twice our own weight. However, you must be fit.
