The talent show was a major success

The talent show was great! Special thanks to all who helped and to all the participants. We collected almost $2000 towards our mission trip! Not only that we had a great time, and have a lot of left over food to dilever to the local mission agencies.

We had 16 great acts. The sanctuary was nearly full for the show. We had over 120 people for dinner, not counting our youth, and in the sanctuary at the show itself we had close to if not more than 200 people including youth.

Again this was a great time, thanks to all who helped.

Talent Show this Sunday

Just a quick reminder that the talent show is this Sunday. The dinner is at 6 with the show to follow at 7. Youth are to be at the church at 5pm

Also if you are a Sr. High student who is going on the Mission trip I need you to stick around after the 11 o'clock service Sunday morning to help set up.

2nd Annual Peep Videos - This Week

That's right, this Sunday is the 2nd Annual peep bible reenactment film festival. Who could ever forget Shadrach Mesach and Abed-nego in the firey furnace last year. This is a fun night, but will require some critical thinking with regard to the bible text, as well some producing skills!!?? Start thinking about what bible passage you want to reenact.

Remember, no Jesus representations, no crucifixions / ressurections / or other scences which Jesus is directly shown in. Other scenes are all clear, but it is inappropriate to represent Jesus with a peep, so steer clear from that. Otherwise the sky is the limit...

Talent Show

April 26th will be a fun evening of fellowship, laughs, and sharing of talent. The High School Youth are putting on a talent show to raise money for work mission this summer. Mission Plans Announced

This year's work mission will be in Soldier's Grove Wisconsin, and is shaping up to be a very cool trip. We have a lot of plans for the trip, as well as a number of fundraisers I will be asking you to participate in leading up to the trip.

The time to sign up for work mission is NOW. You will find a sign up list on the youth bulletin board at the church, or you can e-mail me and let me know you plan on coming.

Cost is currently set at $300, and will not rise above that. I believe that if we are active in our fundrasing we should be able to defray 100% of the cost.

Market Crash

I would like to take this moment to give youth a fair warning concerning the financial situation in this country. If you are an adult you may want to attempt to communicate this to your youth and their friends.

Our country is in deep recession, and looking at the markets today it appears that the bottom is nowhere in sight. Now I am not an economist, I am not a politician, and I am not a prophet, so do not expect any predictions of where this is going from me. What I do want to say to you is that as this crisis continues to develop your parents will continue to be under greater and greater stress, that is just the reality. As a youth you need to be ready to make some sacrafices, and you need to be willing to make these sacrifices without giving your parents a hard time about it. It appears we are coming upon a time when it will be a lot more difficult for your parents to pay your cell phone bill, buy you a new pair of Nikes, or deck you out in the latest Hollister gear. We are coming upon a time when your parents may not be able to afford cable TV, new video games, and a broadband internet connection. We are coming to a time when sacrifice and hard decisions will need to be made by your parents, and your job as a youth is to support them in their decisions. Obedience and honor given to parents is precious in the sight of God and brings much eternal reward. As things tighten down I encourage you as a youth to offer to give up certain priveleges you have had to ease your families financial situation. Take the pressure off of your parents. They are required to provide you shelter, food, saftey, and companionship, anything else you have received from them is a bonus!

Please hear this advice, you as a youth have the potential to help your family prosper in these tough times. Do you love your family? Put them first, be the first of your siblings to sacrafice for the good of your parents. Afterall, they have sacraficed much for you!

Chrysalis

Hey Guys-

Coming up on March 6-8 is a Chrysalis Flight. I know a number of you are saying a 'Chrysalis What?' Yeah, a Chrysalis Flight. This is a weekend of encountering Christ in a very real and tangible way, and it will certainly affect the rest of your life. On a personal note, it was on a Chrysalis Flight in Findlay Ohio in 1999 that I first came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ with a real belief. It was awhile later that I actually committed myself fully to Him, but Chrysalis was a key event in my life, and I am sure it would be a great event in yours as well. So if you are 15-18 year old guy please contact me if you are interested in this.

Also, girls if you are interested there is a flight coming up in the summer, and the fall. Unfortunately the summer flight will be at the same time as our mission trip, but the fall flight is available.

Please Contact me if you are interested, I will be speaking a little bit about this at YF this weekend.

WOW Questions

Here is a list of questions that our 6-8th WOW attendees have asked that I teach about. Recall that WOW is a ministry designed to reach out to Gateway Middle School students each Wednesday. Some of our WOW youth attend a church regularly, most however do not. Here are some of the things what they want to know.

Why do you teach us?

What is the difference between Catholic and Protestant?

What does the cross symbolize?

Tell us more about heaven and hell. How do I know where I am going?

Why did the people want to kill Jesus?

Why do people go to Church?

How are you going to be judged?

Why do bad things happen to Christians?

What do you do in Heaven?

Do you see loved ones in Heaven?

What do people look like in Heaven?

Where is God from? Where does He live? What other names does He have?

Is there a heaven?

What are the different types of Christianity?

The bible is confusing, how are you supposed to understand it?

What all happened with the Ressurection?

These are the questions that the youth at WOW came up with this past week. Hopefully we will be able to address most if not all of these questions in the remaining WOW weeks of this year. If you are a youth that attends WOW and have more questions feel free to e-mail them to me, and I may possibly teach on them. If you are a Christian adult reading this I ask you... Can you answer these questions? Do you know where to begin? These are the real questions that real youth are asking in this world, and they are not just the questions of Sunday School attending Church going youth... they are the honest questions of your typical youth, and we as a church need to be ready to answer!

Special thanks to all of you who helped out at the Good Samaritan Center this Sunday. We served about 40 meals to people in need. I was very suprised at how many of you showed up being as we were not meeting at the normal time. Unfortunately the big turnout left a lot of you without a whole lot of work to do, but your willingness to serve is duely noted.

Hopefully later today we will be able to post the pictures that were taken.

Below is the video we played at Sr. High YF last week. I think it highlights genuine conversion pretty well. Honestly I do not know a lot about the church that did this... nor the contexted in which this was performed. From the end it appears to be a finacial stewardship type video, nonetheless it is worth watching.

Michindoh was a blast

Honestly I did not believe it could be possible to top last year's Michindoh trip, but I think that we may have just done that!! The sledding was possibly better last year, but the over all fun factor was just through the roof this year.

eVANgelism Bible Project

eVANgelism is starting a new chapter shortly. As you may or may not know, Sr. High youth have been going various places over the last year to spread the love of Christ. We have gone downtown with hot chocolate, coffee, and scarves in order to reach out to the people there. We have gone to local malls and campuses to offer to pray for individuals we meet there.

We are now stepping out a bit further and will be making very intentional steps to not only offer prayer and sustinance but also to verbally present the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We know that faith comes by hearing! And how will they hear if no one tells them? (Romans 10:14,15) That is what this bible project is all about. If a person seems interested or perceptive to the Gospel as we share it, we will give them one of these Bibles. The inside cover contains a basic Gospel presentation with page numbers and scripture references. The scriptures we reference will be highlighted in the bible so they are easy to find. The back inside cover has directions to the church and contact information. The back of the bible has a lable with the name of the youth who put it together (first name only) and a reminder that the bible was prayed over.

We have approximately 90 bibles, and plently of labels to make this happen, but over time we may need financial support to increase our supply. If you are interested in helping to assemble, pray over, or finance these bibles please contact Jay Mikovic.

Good Theology

Below I attached a song by Shai Linne. This guy is using Hip Hop to communicate the Gospel. You will find that he is not making an attempt to be entertaining, and really is not so concerned about how good the rap is, his purpose is to communicate a message. Give it a listen, the whole thing, you will find a lot of theology, preached in a way you may find enjoyable. If you are more into rock, or pop, I would publish a video of that, but there are not to many rockers, or pop stars in the 'Christian' genre that are doing anything this biblical.
