IX PV270. Restored by Brendon Deere in memory of his uncle, fighter ace, Al Deere, PV270 made its first post-restoration flight on 18 March 2009 at Ohakea, New Zealand, piloted by Keith Skilling. PV270 has been painted in the colour scheme of Alan Deere while he was RAF Wing Commander at Biggin Hill.

This video shows the aircraft flying in the evening at Classic Fighters Airshow, Omaka airfield near Blenheim New Zealand. Classic Fighters at Omaka was the public debut of PV270. The weather was perfect throughout the weekend allowing the aircraft to fly six times over the three days of the show.

Spitfire Site Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950064463451541029noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6075362593191035566.post-34498810086436195752009-03-23T09:30:00.002Z2009-03-23T09:37:28.683ZWorking Merlin engine in 1/5 scale

A mind-boggling modelling undertaking - a working Merlin XX in 1/5 scale built by British modeller Barry Hares of the Aircraft Engine Historical Society. The answer is by using a dedicated onboard sound system.

This video demonstrates the first 'in airframe' test of the Benedini Merlin sound system in a 1/4 Scale Spitfire replica. While it doesn't sound loud in the video, standing by the model you really need to shout to be heard over the noise! Two speakers are mounted in the wing root pointing down while a third is mounted in the radiator.

Also shown are a few miscellaneous cockpit details. XIX, formerly restored and owned by Planes of Fame Museum at Chino, California. This aircraft is now operated by a new owner in France, Christophe Jacquard.

Originally a gift from King Bhumibol of Thailand to The Planes of Fame Museum back in 1962, this aircraft spent many years in storage. The restoration gained impetus only oafter the museum decided to marry the airframe with Rolls-Royce Griffon engine and contra-rotating propeller from an Avro Shackleton maritime patrol aircraft. It was operated in Chino for many years, but sold to France in 2007.

Spitfire Site Editorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950064463451541029noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6075362593191035566.post-19636853001877987642008-04-07T19:27:00.001+01:002008-04-07T19:29:02.350+01:00Public debut of Seafire Mk.
