It's the report released a week ago from a survey on public attitudes toward Chinese and Asian Americans among the general US population. This report follows up on a similar survey by the same group (<a href="http://www.committee100.org/">http://www.committee100.org</a>) that was done in 2001. <br /><br />You can find the whole report <a href="http://survey.committee100.org/2009/files/FullReportfinal.pdf">here</a>.<br /><br />A few results listed in the beginning of the report:<br /><br />Among the general population, 45% believe Asian Americans are more loyal to their countries of ancestry than to the U.S., up from 37% in the 2001 survey.<br /><br />Among the general population, 44% believe Asian Americans should think in more American ways, and 20% believe Asian Americans do not care what happens to anyone but their own kind.<br /><br />By using the split sample, the survey shows the majority of the general population cannot make meaningful distinctions between Chinese Americans and Asian Americans in general. This “lumping effect”is the same result as in the 2001 survey. Asian Americans are still seen as one generic ethnic group.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6033903-5116509423378531799?l=lwu81.blogspot.com'/></div>Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18410225093251702448noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6033903.post-73609975633478758242009-04-27T19:07:00.000-07:002009-04-27T19:15:08.940-07:00omg my bro has a pic with RPattz<a href="http://twitpic.com/44kap" title="RPattz in Westwood! on Twitpic"><img src="http://twitpic.com/show/thumb/44kap.jpg" width="200" alt="RPattz in Westwood! on Twitpic"></a><br /><br />He doesn't even know who RPattz IS! Then she starts wondering (in a literally feverish state brought on by her sickness) if all the fans who identify with their love story are also characterized by an anxious/ambivalent romantic attachment style. <br /> <br />Romantic attachment styles from Hazan and Shaver (1987)<br /><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">Secure</span>: I find it relatively easy to get close to others and am comfortable depending on them and having them depend on me. I don’t often worry about being abandoned or about someone getting too close to me<br /><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">Avoidan</span>t: I am somewhat uncomfortable being close to others; I find it difficult to trust them completely, difficult to allow myself to depend on them. I am nervous when anyone gets too close and often, love partners want me to be more intimate than I feel comfortable being.<br /><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">Anxious/Ambivalent</span>: I find that others are reluctant to get as close as I would like. I often worry that my partner doesn’t really love me or won’t want to stay with me. I want to merge completely with another person, and this desire sometimes scares people away.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6033903-6532740713992755717?l=lwu81.blogspot.com'/></div>Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18410225093251702448noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6033903.post-45992458135904187862009-02-26T14:27:00.000-08:002009-02-26T14:28:10.622-08:00Bad days call for tasty marrow <p class="mobile-photo"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_TAdfgJeXIjE/SacXek8Gn7I/AAAAAAAAC3U/xb5rxVuqDzA/s1600-h/photo-790625.jpg"><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_TAdfgJeXIjE/SacXek8Gn7I/AAAAAAAAC3U/xb5rxVuqDzA/s320/photo-790625.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307236499958702002" /></a></p><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6033903-4599245813590418786?l=lwu81.blogspot.com'/></div>Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18410225093251702448noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6033903.post-57534846888774063222009-02-26T14:25:00.000-08:002009-02-26T14:26:21.324-08:00Yeah it was a rough day yesterday<p class="mobile-photo"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_TAdfgJeXIjE/SacXDe9MsLI/AAAAAAAAC3M/A7nsqYwLXQk/s1600-h/photo-781325.jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_TAdfgJeXIjE/SacXDe9MsLI/AAAAAAAAC3M/A7nsqYwLXQk/s320/photo-781325.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307236034496213170" /></a></p>I found out there&#39;s an article in press that makes very similar <br>arguments to a paper I&#39;ve been writing the last few months. We got him from animal talk rescue in Seattle. His weird little square moustache and his constant attempt to "make muffins" out of air won our hearts. I only teared up twice when we went looking for kitties. I feel bad for the kitty volunteers. One of them asked me if my current kitty was good with other kitties. I started talking about Nikko, and almost started crying. The poor volunteer felt soo bad! Luckily, despite being a bit over emotional, we walked out with a sweetie! We named him Tungsten (runner up names were Zoji (like our rice cooker), Epsilon, Titus, and Achilles). He's the first kitty we have with amber eyes. I found them quite odd/startling to look at initially, but I've gotten used to them. He just looks so serious all the time! I think he kinda looks like a stuffy old professor - but in a cute way.<br /><br /><table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/0jMYiFbj3Q-4TDwL2JEhKQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_TAdfgJeXIjE/SXbXQGv0qbI/AAAAAAAACzo/_aaMZZnqNOw/s400/tungsten.jpg" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/loriwu/Lorispeak?feat=embedwebsite">lorispeak</a></td></tr></table><br /><br />He's already met Buddie, and they get along. Asha and he have seen each other a few times, but she mostly has kept away from him. He's such a sweetie, and will just lie on his back snuggling with us when he's tuckered out.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6033903-8303360622615987944?l=lwu81.blogspot.com'/></div>Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18410225093251702448noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6033903.post-36176208674704100032009-01-08T23:06:00.000-08:002009-01-08T23:07:05.220-08:00card from our veterinarian<table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/OwzkHLad-NEPTxBr45Ey2A?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_TAdfgJeXIjE/SWb3RBvRrYI/AAAAAAAACyY/Mr76hiu710U/s400/missYou.jpg" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/loriwu/Lorispeak?feat=embedwebsite">lorispeak</a></td></tr></table><br /><br />We miss you Nikko.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6033903-3617620867470410003?l=lwu81.blogspot.com'/></div>Lorihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18410225093251702448noreply@blogger.com3
