Kanye's concert marks the first full-fledged Hip Hop concert held here in Singapore. Having crawled around the region to catch some of the top live Hip Hop acts, namely Jay Z (BKK), The Roots (SG & KL), 50 Cent (BKK), Nas (BKK), and even Kanye West (KL in Mar'07), I couldn't be happier that he's decided to make the stop here on our shores this year! And already, I've heard, read and researched about Glow in the Dark tour. Its an amazing production bordering on complete aloofness and pure genius. It sneaks references from 2001: A Space Odyssey within the show, and while i'd love to lay it all out, i really dont want to spoil the surprise.

And..come on guys, you probably have also caught wind of the fact that Kanye's going to drop a brand new album by end 2008, he's already leaked a single from it...dont be surprised that he'll give you a sneak of whats to come. A man with that much bravado of his talent isnt afraid of giving you a peek at what's to come. He did the same in March 07, when he slipped in a snippet of Stronger. The crowd went ape shit!

Great News! Now we all know that Amy Winehouse's hair is real; and so is her fist. Gotta love how she ran off straight after. Trust me she didnt learn it from Hathaway.

And Jay Z, hmm.When doesnt he do a great show?! This is really gonna be a treat for you guys. After getting publically dissed by Noel Gallagher that "Rap had no place in Glastonbury", Hov came out with a guitar singing Wonderwall. Shit was hilarious!

And as if that doesnt put salt to the wound, Mr. Carter took the whole show how his "... name's being mentioned with the martyrs / The Biggie's and the Pac's and the Marley's and the Marcuses"

So Weezy sold A Milli after all. I'd say the tracks i dug into most was "Doctor Doctor". Koko rang me up the day it dropped just to tell me his favourite quote from the album - "But I'm a Doctor, they dont understand my writing!"

Thats pretty sick.

In anycase, now that NBA season is over, Euro08 takes my full attention. And tonight, i got my money on Germany to be 2 up at halftime. $200 please! Anybody wanna play God and make this happen?

Celtics takes Game 6 and the title by blowing out Lakers by 39 points.

Finally, its Game 6, and Celtics takes the crown as this season's NBA champion. Im ecstatic. Talk about a long road to see success! After 12 seasons of almost single-handedly carrying Timberwolves through thick and thin, he gets traded to Boston, along with Ray Allen (who also 'suffered' 11 seasons without winning any rings) and well...the rest is history.

Prior to this, "The Big Ticket" has been a beast in the game, earning every accomplishment possible, including Most Valuable Player of the 2003-04 season, NBA Defensive Player of the Year of the 2007-08 season, being named to eleven All-Star teams and being named to eight All-NBA and All-Defensive Teams. He is also the all-time leader in NBA seasons played with averages of at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.

So its nice to finally have a trophy.

Over the last week, i've come to seriously think about what improvements our music has made here in Singapore. My first thought was that most will say it is little to none. But then again, it is those people who dont really come out to the gigs, come on to this page, or any of the other active writers and practitioners of hiphop. But that's another story altogether.

What are the improvements? Well, the fact that we have regular monthly showcases provided by clubs like Butter Factory, Zouk, MOS, Home Club, etc, and indie promoters like 65&Hope, Beats Society and Pushin On to name a few. But how many really puts the local guys in the tangle with the international acts. very few do. now. i wonder really if we can move forward past this stage in our progress.

As an artform, i certainly think all the people who's taken a proactive approach, at one point or another, has helped HipHop and its related artforms to the foreground. We are included in street festivals, we have grafitti for art installations, dance crews are popping up every where, and we get to see this happening before us. Its nice to be frank.

And alot of it is also because of the push by the mainstream market - HipHop is now officially Popular. therefore, i will have to say that we are now considered pop music. dont go boo. its true. but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Micheal Jackson is the King of Pop and i do recall him making R&B.

So what is our next step? Why cant we move forward? Sure for the love of the music we can do something greater. But herein lies the problem - sort of.

Many feel that by doing it for the love, most prefer not to tarnish that motive by staying broke - whether by choice or bad decision, thats left to them. Yet, that is where we need to move forward. We have to keep funding our music. And if you're apart of the music, that means funding yourself! Or in other words...GET PAID!

So fuck exposure, i say we get paid for being exposed. Im tired of promoters/labels/agents/ and all others saying its for exposure. Even if you're performing to the president - get paid, then donate that money to charity if you really dont want to keep it. That's what i'll do. Perform for free for a charitable cause - not for exposure. I dont need to tell you the benefits of money. you can figure that bit out yourself.

I love making my music. I hate starving.

Who wants to do something about this?

ps. some of the most talented cats i know, stopped making music because when you're out of school, and free from National Service, you have things like responsibility to your home, family, and bills. just a thought.

So far 2008 has shaped up to be preeeeeeetty nice for
us here in Singapore. Everybody seems eager for a nice come back. Bedsty pretty much went along with it too. We've made some new friends, witnessed some new talents emerge and seen the music here progress.

Itseems fitting then that Freaky Z has set up Hope Awards. This is an award ceremony for the people who have been contributing to our scene here. Its entirely by popular vote so for those who is on a one-track "i do
it for the love of hiphop" will be very happy. Make a hot song, drop a stunning live show, and we'll give you props. So kudos to Freaky Z for this.
