How wrong we were! Yesterday provided plenty of the soft stuff in the Sisters and Moonshine at Snowbasin - skied untracked run until 11:30. It snowed some more last night, providing a treat for our friends, Mike, Barb and Rich, on the Middle Bowl Cirque today. With such a great base, no matter what March brings, the skiing and riding will be AWESOME for the rest of the season!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6013381289100499660-5767638683653965696?l=wolfcreekresortpowder.blogspot.com'/></div>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05196406972684357443noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6013381289100499660.post-77677781211557609832008-02-26T20:41:00.000-08:002008-02-27T15:38:38.884-08:00No Name was calling us<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R8XlHSOLRXI/AAAAAAAAALs/mM8_akWC1cI/s1600-h/IMG_3103-4boys.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5171791660418024818" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R8XlHSOLRXI/AAAAAAAAALs/mM8_akWC1cI/s400/IMG_3103-4boys.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div>We enjoyed every inch of this 18-inch storm that started Sunday morning. Howdy and I had hosted out-of-town visitors, our old friends Rob (Vashon, WA) and Craig (Bozeman, MT), as well as Curt (Ski Patrol at Brighton). The boys go back to the 70’s – here they are enjoying some après ski the night before.<br /><br />Skiing primarily the “old Snowbasin” on Sunday, it just kept getting deeper and deeper, right up to 4 PM. What a great time for all! With great anticipation of more slopes opening after avalanche control the next morning, our expectations were met as we ventured to Moonshine and beyond on Monday.</div><br /><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5171793451419387266" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R8XmviOLRYI/AAAAAAAAAL0/fFRnm68fbhA/s400/IMG_3104-view.jpg" border="0" /><br />This gorgeous view greeted us on our way to the Mountain on today. We hoped for the chance to ski No Name, which had not opened since the storm began. Loading the John Paul Quad for the very first run of the day, it seemed like wishful thinking. Even during the Tram ride, rumor had it that the gate had not quite opened. So we headed in that direction just in case, and low and behold, it WAS open. Up we hiked to a winter wonderland of untracked fluffy stuff all the way to the lower parking lot. Absolutely wonderful – timing is everything! Here is a clip of Howdy and Rob:<br /><br /><p align="center"><object width="320" height="266" class="BLOG_video_class" id="BLOG_video-f45ee1ca0e6fb643" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="movie" value="http://www.blogger.com/img/videoplayer.swf?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3DqAAAADjB7cieHmVEItu-JNF4-KLFpuz_rUBf-6hnsMwffE1Cwsi2f1KVH4ppi013ODYgLaOL-O2rcG8a3UasrjgY9F2g1NVa5PKEugEDSHrQH9nDFNkFptCOB5osi9wtKSHNJNWn5ONPzQyzP7Wa5Q_DvPUH4mgE2VrbNpX3Byt__pGiBSUpZUIomQKlMOub7a5EzL1VMNOu9y6RiXDdYxleKj_PxbSznGJ4AoAmN8FZJcj2%26sigh%3DC9_c-Wj4jKFsMrGCzAbix6fc75Q%26begin%3D0%26len%3D86400000%26docid%3D0&amp;nogvlm=1&amp;thumbnailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2FThumbnailServer2%3Fapp%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Df45ee1ca0e6fb643%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw320%26sigh%3DPd9aDZekLejL3Uz9T7l7vTX8YmM&amp;messagesUrl=video.google.com%2FFlashUiStrings.xlb%3Fframe%3Dflashstrings%26hl%3Den"><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"><embed width="320" height="266" src="http://www.blogger.com/img/videoplayer.swf?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3DqAAAADjB7cieHmVEItu-JNF4-KLFpuz_rUBf-6hnsMwffE1Cwsi2f1KVH4ppi013ODYgLaOL-O2rcG8a3UasrjgY9F2g1NVa5PKEugEDSHrQH9nDFNkFptCOB5osi9wtKSHNJNWn5ONPzQyzP7Wa5Q_DvPUH4mgE2VrbNpX3Byt__pGiBSUpZUIomQKlMOub7a5EzL1VMNOu9y6RiXDdYxleKj_PxbSznGJ4AoAmN8FZJcj2%26sigh%3DC9_c-Wj4jKFsMrGCzAbix6fc75Q%26begin%3D0%26len%3D86400000%26docid%3D0&amp;nogvlm=1&amp;thumbnailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2FThumbnailServer2%3Fapp%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Df45ee1ca0e6fb643%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw320%26sigh%3DPd9aDZekLejL3Uz9T7l7vTX8YmM&amp;messagesUrl=video.google.com%2FFlashUiStrings.xlb%3Fframe%3Dflashstrings%26hl%3Den" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></object></p></div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5171796032694732178" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R8XpFyOLRZI/AAAAAAAAAL8/qucHnnb5_L4/s400/movie-shot-rob.jpg" border="0" /></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6013381289100499660-7767778121155760983?l=wolfcreekresortpowder.blogspot.com'/></div>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05196406972684357443noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6013381289100499660.post-40523280278482456592008-02-10T17:27:00.000-08:002008-02-10T17:49:06.082-08:00The Moose is Loose!<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R6-lyyOLRVI/AAAAAAAAALc/dg9BPWZA8dU/s1600-h/IMG_5794-feeding-crop.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5165529589510522194" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R6-lyyOLRVI/AAAAAAAAALc/dg9BPWZA8dU/s400/IMG_5794-feeding-crop.jpg" border="0" /></a>When my friend Joanne in Salt Lake City heard that we have had two to four moose living in our yard for the past month, she asked me to post a picture. We live on the Valley floor, between Huntsville and Eden, across the highway from Pineview Reservoir. The heavy snowfalls this year (did I mention that the skiing has been great?) have forced deer and moose into the valleys. They spend their time happily trimming our trees and bushes, sleeping under trees and on the sunny deck, and leaving neat little pelletized fertilizer all over the yard, deck, driveway and sidewalk. <div></div><div></div><div>The second picture is Mavis walking up to our front door with twigs in her mouth - she comes around often, perhaps to compliment us on the cuisine, looking in our dining room window. We skied super deep snow during the storm two days ago and had a ball. Not really believing that we would find much untracked snow, we went up to enjoy the sun and great mountain coverage. As luck would have it, the gate to Middle Bowl Cirque opened just as we arrived. Howdy filmed me above on my second run (taking a big breath and pulling a Melinda - <a href="http://wolfcreekresortpowder.blogspot.com/2008/01/active-local-couple-loves-winter.html">see Jan 27</a>, last picture). Our first run is documented below- the tracks just to the left of the middle rocky area are mine. I was wondering why Howdy said "Stay close to my line" until I saw this picture! I honestly do not remembering seeing the rocks while I skied the delicious snow.<br /></p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163700640198673698" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R6kmX7F_xSI/AAAAAAAAAJU/57CU-d0qQ3g/s400/IMG_3066-tracks.jpg" border="0" /> Here is a run that we took earlier in the day (below). He had a glint in his eye and a broad smile on his face. He introduced himself and explained that he was starting a new program at Powder Mountain that was a must for visitors to know about. The excitement he exhibited was intoxicating as he explained how a special device would be added to bindings and skins would be strapped on skis for climbing. Guests would be equipped with all the gear and the guides would carry lunch for an all day back country adventure into the back bowls of Powder Mountain!<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R41AtNPZ0LI/AAAAAAAAAFk/eOKywUULNdg/s1600-h/jack-remarks.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155848293801644210" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R41AtNPZ0LI/AAAAAAAAAFk/eOKywUULNdg/s320/jack-remarks.jpg" border="0" /></a>"A true visionary, Jack Fletcher began what has become a full-fledged mountain powder guide program. New tows, lifts and snow cats have replaced the climbing skins, and new ski and board technology allows more visitors to enjoy some of the most spectacular powder terrain in North America. Jack’s love of the sport and the mountain was recognized on January 14 when his favorite powder stash was named in his honor. Fletcher Bowl, located off the Sunrise Lift and Sanctuary trail, is a blend of open terrain, perfectly spaced trees, and excellent pitch. “We used to get out there and then ski down, hike up; ski down, hike up; ski down, hike up until we couldn’t do it any longer,” said Fletcher in his remarks.<br /><br />"One Fletcher fan remarked, 'They say there are no friends on a powder day but that doesn’t apply to Jack. He was always stopping and asking people if they were looking for some powder, and then he would show it to them.' John Klisch attended the naming ceremony. Influenced by Jack during his first visit to the resort, John purchased property and built his retirement home in the Ogden Valley, and is a powder guide. </div><div></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155851304573718738" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Eh_zhZJO9ns/R41DcdPZ0NI/AAAAAAAAAF0/om9jyRgGMtg/s400/jack-pics.jpg" border="0" />"Powder Mountain management was overwhelmed with letters of support for the name designation said Greg Grier, Powder’s General Manager.
