In fact, 4 of the "Keating 5" senators were Democrats; McCain was the lone Republican. Deregulation received broad bipartisan support, marshalled by lobbyist dollars that cut across partisan lines. (Biden voted for it, for instance.)<BR/><BR/>You know, of course, I'm no fan of McCain and criticizing him about his former involvement with Keating and the S&L Crisis is more than fair. But let's not imply that white knight Dems have spent the last 25 years trying to put the brakes on the Republican's irresponsible Wall Street policies.
