Well Well Well... wasn't today just a HILARIOUS comedy of errors then, huh?

First of all, the tournament gets shut down - which not only reduced the overall number who played by around 20... but made me look like a total fool for my desperate number mongering yesterday!

On top of THAT - us poor Affiliate Managers get heckled and beat up on by all their so called 'loyal' affiliates who AGAIN united to terrify us off the tables. I'm almost to scared to sleep tonight (almost).

HOWEVER

Despite the initial woopsie that occurred, the 38 of us that DID play had a whale of a time (sorry to everyone who missed out.... rumor has it theres another one on next month!). I'd just like to point out that we frantically emailed everyone individually, the minute we found out they needed to re-register.... and made the game later, for maximum re-entry. What i'm basically getting at here is.... we tried.... so give us a break already. ;)

The game itself was a heap of fun! Everyone who was there was in good spirits, there were some amazing hands and some pretty tricky plays.

The recipients of the Knock-out-a-loyal-affiliate-manager-for-a-freeroll freerolls were luckylulo, 1337Alex, Badb0iieP4EF and DaChineseDutchGuy. Each of these Affiliates proved to be very crafty, luring each of their victims in to a false sense of security and then ATTACKING!

(They all played incredibly well).

Other mentions go to our top 5 winners... specifically the aptly named 'best1ever', 'dabears63', 'FruitBatCat' and the affiliate-manager-taker-outer 'Badb0iieP4EF'. Player of the match however (which is an 'honor' I have just decided to dish out) goes to DaChineseDutchGuy, who not only knocked me out (a hard feat, of course) but went on to win the entire game.

As much as I love an affiliate tournament that's bustling with the moans and grunts of many merry men (and women), it was nice to have a little intimidate time with a small group of players.... I of course say this primarily because I out-lasted all the other Managers and am currently feeling very chuffed about the game, and about myself.

I'll let you know when I set up the September game!

JULY MONTHLY AFFILIATE TOURNAMENT!!!!

Well Well Well! Wasn't yesterdays Affiliate tournament just a TREAT for everyone involved? Not only did we have a whopping turn out of 84 players, but we had a whopping turn out of 84 players who knew what they were doing! With one hit, Ashley111 managed to knock StaffShane right out of the tournament on the 18th hand with a well crafted straight! Talk about embarrassing (I know we did... mostly at Shane's expense and for the remainder of the tournament). The rest of us Account Managers managed to maintain our dignity a little longer, with Ellen bowing out early after going all in on a pair of Aces. Unfortunately for her, Quibbles, who displayed great strategy through the game, was holding a two pair - so Ellen said 'Sayonara' and waited for ShaneE to follow, at the hand of the ever present XSSlinger. The game was left to Dean and I.

I still cannot emphasize enough the stress and pressure us Affiliate managers feel, playing a game with our favorite Affiliates and KNOWING that they're out there to GET US! With that in mind Dean and I managed to play on for a good hour or so after our comrades demise (Dean with his skill... Me with my incessant pleading not to be knocked out... thanks guys!). I would like to point out that regardless of the REASONS we stayed in so long, Dean and I did a great job (for us), with Dean eventually getting knocked out by Judy111. I would also like to point out, as loudly as I can without being audible, that I, Daria, made it to the FINAL TABLE in a display of wit, talent and overall poker playing finesse. Some might say it was a pathetic placing, seeming as I only had 445 chips when I entered, and bowed out embarrassingly on the first hand... but no one would doubt that Kopper, who took me out (and 4th place overall) wasn't one of the finest players the tournament saw.

The best plays of the day have to go, as always, the top 5 winners. Eclipz took out the game in a heart stopping showdown with pete06, knocking him out to take the money with a 10's over K's full house. However, it wasn't just these players I want to mention. The entire final table showed an amazing level of skill (did I mention I was on it yet?), with Porkrind333, Kopper and sachamp making the top 5 with ease.

This game was thoroughly exciting from start to finish, with sooo many affiliates involved, and everyone in high spirits. I hope to see just as many, if not more at next months game so that we can start moving this away from a mere monthly freeroll and turn it into the full on poker phenomenon that it truly is!

Summer Champs Media & Affiliate Tournament Run Down!

Friday the 13th is (as I'm sure you all know) considered to be one of the most unlucky days on any calendar. Well not according to the players getting into the money in this years Media and Affiliate tournament in the Summer Champs series.

This year saw a field of 45 starters whittled down to one in just over 3.5 hours of no holes barred poker action. Congratulations to "PokerPortaldotsk" who took first place and a tidy $200 as well as a glass trophy to boot.

The money hands went down like this:

5th place - Drumgower1 is dealt pocket 3's and pushes all-in preflop. Kopper calls and shows pocket Q's. Drumgower1 is dominated and will need plenty of help from the board to improve. The flop comes 5s 6s 8d which gives a straight possibility to Drumgower1 but he will need to catch runner runner to surive. The turn is the Ad so now only a 3 will help. The river is the Qh which gives kopper a set of Q's and the hand. Drumgower1 is out in 5th and wins $40

4th place - deadaces pushes all-in preflop with Qs Js and is called by PokerPortaldotsk with Ad As. The flop comes Jc 5c 8h giving deadaces a pair of J's. Still behind only another J or a Q can help now. The turn pairs the board with the 5h so now only a J can help. The river is the 2c giving the win to PokerPortaldotsk and sending deadaces out in 4th with $60.

3rd place - DangerMouse420 pushes all-in preflop with Ah Kh, PokerPortaldotsk gets out of the way and folds leaving it with kopper, who makes the call with Qh 8h. DangerMouse420 is in a good position here and pairs the king when the flop comes 2d 6s kd. The turn comes Qs giving kopper a pair of Q's and needing a running Q or 8 to win. The river brings the needed 8s giving kopper 2 pair and knocking DangerMouse420 out in 3rd for $75.

Final hand - kopper is the dealer, PokerPortaldotsk is the big blind with blinds at 1000/2000 and 150 ante. kopper raises to 2000 and is called. The flop comes 10d Jh 6s and PokerPortaldotsk checks. kopper leads out for 4000, PokerPortaldotsk raises another 4000 and kopper pushes all-in with PokerPortaldotsk making a quick call. They turn their cards over, PokerPortaldotsk showing 5d Jc for a pair of J's and kopper has 10h Qh for a pair of 10's and will need to improve to win. The turn is the 7d helping neither, the river is the 7c pairing the board but its too late for kopper going down to a stronger 2 pair and finishing in 2nd place and $125. The winner is PokerPortaldotsk!!

June Affiliate Tournament!

As June closes its doors on us and July raises its foggy bed-head, we all sit back, lost in a unified thought..."Geee, that really WAS a GREAT affiliate tournament!!!". Whilst others might suggest we have nothing more exciting to do with our time, those in the 'know', KNOW that this kind of cut-throat, ruthless competition is hard to find anywhere else. Yep, you affiliates are callous, cruel, underhanded creatures who know nothing of love, compassion, forgiveness or plain kindness... or maybe I'm just bitter for being knocked out SO incredibly early, as usual. Either way...callously or cheerfully, the affiliates managed to unite in a breathtaking display of vengefulness against their honest, loyal and hardworking Affiliate Managers, to take out the final two tables, without a single one of us still standing. Predominately, blame goes OF COURSE to the specific players that actually managed to knock us out. The first honorable mention goes to Ashley111 who managed to evict StaffShane from the player pool five hands into the game. Skillfull cardster tigressaf managed to knock out StaffDean in (yet again) and embarrassing move by Dean, winning a freeroll, some chips, and what WAS left of Dean's dignity in the process. Ellen managed to hold her ground A LOT longer than any of us had anticipated (or bet against), outstaying the rest of us by a long shot, only to be hit behind the knees by the chip-thirsty NeoBahmut in a crafty display of skill. The major flag must be flown, of course, for the ever present Dallasite, who, despite my incessant begging, nagging and pleading, managed to knock me clear out of the competition and go on to place first overall! Every month seems to be getting harder and harder for us to stand our ground - but that can only be attributed to the passion and skill our affiliates play with. It was a great game all around, and we hope to see each and every one of you on the 25th for the July Affiliate Tournament!

NETeller Refunds US accounts

For anyone who is yet to hear the news, NETeller will be allocating a 180 day period for US account holders to withdraw any remaining money in their NETeller accounts. The commencement date for this period is yet to be established, but make sure to keep an eye out for this information. This 180 day period will officially be the last chance any US account holders have to withdraw their money. Any money not withdrawn during this period, irrespective of the reason, will be forfeited and the account holder will permanently lose their rights to these funds. The specifications for the withdrawal of US funds are established in and dictated by NETeller's Distribution Plan. This plan has been developed in accordance with an agreement made between NETteller, the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and Navigant Consulting.

IMPORTANT:

You may only make one request to withdraw your funds, and this request MUST be for the entire sum of your NETeller balance. If you currently have a pending withdrawal request, you MUST re-request your withdrawal. May Affiliate Tournament!!!

The May Affiliate Tournament MAY have been a bit slow off the mark, but it soon turned into a teeth-gritting stand off between Affiliates and Managers alike. We know the idea is to knock one of us out, but the collective determination of affiliates to watch us burn was simply astounding. Confusion as to whether the aim was to knock us all out or win was quickly defused as players Donfromtexas and DiamondsDeb managed to collectively knock me out (very VERY early on) in one devastating blow (I had trip J's! C'maaaan!!!). Shane bowed out second under the ruling hand of NeoBahamut followed closely by Ellen who tasted her bitter end under the skillful hand of Best1ever. Dean soldiered on to place 12^th overall, narrowly missing his chance of top-ten-glory from a swift move by 2tg32468 (Not that we expected more from him). Imjusthere4thebeer took out the entire game, proving to be skillful and diligent player. In fact, the general skill level in this game was far greater than usual, so instead of commenting on every single good player (read: Anyone in the tournament OTHER than me), I'm just going to say 'KUDOS'. You're all great. Congratulations.

SO, as usual, the tournament was an absolute blast, and left us all a little sweaty, a little shaky and thirsty for the June Affiliate Tournament. We hope to see you all on June 27^th (Same place, same time) for the next installment of ‘Affiliate wars’ (Commonly referred to as ‘the monthly affiliate tournaments’.

Retro Chic Poker - 16th century stylin'

I have been looking into the history of Poker and from my research I have discovered that Poker can be dated back to Europe as far back as the 16th century! It was very similar to the card game called Primero. Some say it originated in Spain others say Italy; it is difficult to precisely define the exact origins or even the rules of the game as it was never fully written down, which eventually lead to its downfall. For all you guys who play in the affiliate tournament here is a chance to acquire some value information regarding me as a player, I like to bluff and that is why I really like the game Primero; apart from the fact it is totally retro chic! I have come across a reconstruction of the game that I have enjoyed playing and thought I would give you all the opportunity to try it.

*Reconstruction: Italian Primero*

*Primero Gear*:

Standard deck of cards- With 8, 9 and 10's discarded, making a forty card deck.
No common pot as such instead when you place a bet you the money in front of you.

Card Values:
- Ace =16 points.
- 2 =12 points.
- 3 =13 points.
- 4 =14 points.
- 5 =15 points.
- 6 =18 points.
- 7 = 21 points.
- Jack, Queen, King (aka "face", "coat" or "court" cards) =10 points.

Hand Types
There are 5 hand types in this game; from greatest to least I have ordered them below and in Latin!
- Chorus is four of a kind: four cards of the same face value and it beats all other hand types for example four lots of 7 which in fact is the highest scoring chorus - 84 points!
- Fluxus is having four suited cards
- Supremus is a numerus of 55 (that is, the six, seven and ace of a suit). Memo- although being in principle a numerus, it still beats primero.
- Primero is having one card from each suit.
- Numerus (or point) is the most common hand type, when you have two or three cards in a single suit. Note that you only count the cards in that suit when counting up the hand's value. The lowest possible numerus is 20, (two face cards of a suit). The greatest is 54 (the five, six and seven of a suit).

Play
The dealer shuffles the cards, and deals two cards to each player, face-down.

Phase 1: Starts with first player to receive cards - Player have 4 choices -
- Vie -- you toss in a bet (that is, put some money in front of you), and declare a bid. You bid a particular point value with a particular hand type -- "Numerus 45" or "Primero 40" or suchlike. If a bid has already been declared, you must bid a higher value within the current hand type, or a higher hand type, than that. At this point, you can declare any bid you see appropriate, but remember that you'll have to make that type in order to win. You may discard one or two cards and draw new ones, if you choose.
- See (or Hold) -- match the currently-vied bet. If you See the bet, you may then Revie: that is, you can increase the bet and the bid. If the hand has been Vied, and gets around to the last player with no one else having Seen it, the last player must See it: he is not permitted to Pass or Fold. You may discard and draw one or two cards after Seeing and/or Revying.
- Pass -- discard one or two cards, and then draw new ones from the deck, and then go to the next player. You may only Pass once after the last Vie; that is, if a Vie has gotten to you twice and not been Revied, you must See the current bet, or Fold. You do not have to discard if you have Vied or Seen the current bet (that is, you have matched the pot).
- Fold -- you can declare yourself out of the hand, and take back half of the money that you have bet so far. The remainder stays in the pot for the winner.
Once the hand has been Vied, and everyone has either Seen the current bet or Folded, move on to Phase 2.

Phase 2: Deal two more cards to each player.
- When vying, if the bid is numerus or supremus, you must exchange one or two cards.
- You can bluff -- you can state a better value than you have -- but you may only understate your hand type in specific ways. If you have a supremus, and another player has bid primero, you may claim to have primero. If you have chorus, and another player has bid primero or fluxus, you may claim to have that hand type. Other than those exceptions, you may not understate your hand type. However, you may understate your point value.

Again, play continues until the hand has been Vied and everyone has either Seen or Folded. At this point, everyone shows their hands. The winner is the remaining player with the highest point value in the bid hand type. You must at least equal the bid in order to win. If you have a hand type greater than the bid, you lose, unless you fit one of the exceptions above.

APRIL: Monthly Affiliate Tournament!

Unless you have been living under a rock or have recently returned from a holiday on a technologically void island, inhabited only by lap-lap toting barbarians, then you'd be well aware that last Thursday was our monthly affiliate tournament for April.

Now I'm not going to lie to you and say I had a 'fantastic' time, because frankly... I didn't. It's freakin' tough being an affiliate manager in the vicious bloodbath that is the affiliate tournament. With a bounty on your head THAT size, it takes all your energy to remind yourself you aren't in some freaky new-aged rendition of Arthur Millers 'The Crucible' and remember you're meant to be playing a friendly game o' Texas Holdem!

In our defense, all four of us played with the finesse and grace of people deserving of having 'GIVE UP YOUR DAY JOBS' sprawled on our front doors in dried egg yolk... But unfortunately for us...this IS our day job...and occasionally our night job, and our weekend job, and our holiday job... *sigh*.

So were was I? Oh, that's right. We sucked. Badly. But, that's good for all of YOU affilat-eers out there, namely JT1957 who managed to knock out Ellen, Dean AND Shane in a series of not-so-foul swoops. I personally was knocked out ferociously by one Fots60, who had me spitting chips (Mmmm clay-ee) for at least an hour.

Big props go out to our overall winners; with judy111 coming in first followed ever-so-closely by Fots50, DangerMouse420, JT1957 and billmax07. I would also like to congratulate Ellen on coming sixth and quickly say, for the record (and despite the fact that I PERSONALLY came 12^th) that both Ellen and I absolutely kicked the butts of our male counterparts (Dean and Shane) and that everyone should remind them of that if they deal with them in the future.

Hosting Private Tournaments - How to make the most (money) with what you've got.

Every day we get thousands (read: tens) of private tournament requests from our affiliates. Now, I'd like to tell you that we create each and every one these games, but that would make me a liar (and my momma didn't raise no liar!).

See, we have to politely decline some of these requests, based on the fact that...some just aren't beneficial. By the looks of some of the requests, I thought a few affiliates were pulling my leg...but now I realize that we're all just a little confused. Its time to grab the pliers, and uncross some wires. So here goes:

Hosting an affiliate tournament is not a sure-fire way to get more sign ups.

"Mmmmmwhhhaaatttt???" You ask. "It seems pretty logical that it IS a sure-fire way to boost sign-ups!" You say. Well you're wrong, so stop interrupting me and read. Sheesh.

Hosting a private freeroll DOES encourage people to sign up - but unfortunately it doesn't encourage them to deposit! You will find that a lot of your new members aren't coming around to make a deposit, but to simply play your freeroll and leave. No goodbyes, no breakfast in bed, not even a 'you were great' courtesy call. Love you and leave you. Tack-ey.

When it comes down to it, we're all after the same thing. Honesty, love, commitment, and 'potentials' with a heap of cash to send our way. The kind of player your over-protective mother wants you to marry. So the secret to bagging yourself a winner of a husband...err....depositing player? Its simple.

Point. Based. Leader. Board. League.

Here's what you need to do. Organize with yours truly (or my attractive, intelligent associates) for a series of buy-in games (say...2 a week) for a few weeks, followed by a 'final' tourney that's a freeroll. Once that's done, develop yourself a 'points' based leader board, offering players points for playing and points for placing in the buy-in tournaments. This way they can watch their progress in relation to other players on the leader board after every game. You'll be surprised how keen the players will be to deposit and play when they know they could potentially be kicking the butts of the other players on a score board! After you've run all your buy-in games and you have your top ten winners, chuck them into the 'final' freeroll! The freerolls cash prize pool, combined with some incentives of glory (such as a 'special feature' on the winning player on your home page) is a sure way to boost your sign-ups and encourage depositors. They gotta be in it to win it, so they gotta sign-up and get depositing!

And that, in a 452 word nutshell, is all there is to it.
