Meet Pastor Morton

When you are married at Nisbet Plantation, rest assured that all the details of your ceremony will be attended to. Not only from our wedding planner Leonora, but by our friendly pastor.

Pastor Davidson Morton has been preaching for 20 years and marrying couples at Nisbet for almost as long. He has seen bride after beautiful bride walk down our Avenue of the Palms or along our white sand beach.

Pastor Morton is a spiritually-minded man, a dynamic speaker, and a caring and humorous person. He has been married for over 26 years and is proud to be able to bring couples together in marriage.

His most favorite thing about weddings at Nisbet is the historic romance of the plantation. It was here that young Fanny Nisbet was introduced to the dashing British Naval officer, Horatio Nelson. The Great House at Nisbet Plantation was her family home and her enduring love.

Come On Down!

Delta, the world’s largest airline, announced on Thursday June 11, 2009 the addition of a second weekly direct flight from Atlanta, Georgia’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) to St. Kitts (SKB). Service will begin on December 23, 2009 and will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Delta will be flying a 124-passenger aircraft leaving Atlanta Wednesday at 9:40 am and returning at the end of the week at 7:14 pm – times that are conducing to catching connecting flights!

Cocktail Lessons a la Jamie

While visiting the UK this past May, Nisbet Plantation General Manager Jamie Holmes brought a bar for his meeting with Carrier, one of the top Tour Operators in the UK.

Jamie taught the sales and reservations team to make the best Nisbet cocktails so they could get a "taste" of being at Nisbet without making the trip.

It was a big hit and everyone had a great afternoon, especially after a few cocktails! The winning cocktail was called "Carrier Me Home."

Culinary Intern Learns from the Best!

Nevis native Richelle Huggins just completed a hands-on internship with Nisbet's talented chefs.

Richelle is a student at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) on St. Kitts at the School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts. She spent a month and a half interning with Nisbet's Executive Chef Tony Piani and the rest of the culinary team.

Nisbet has awarded Richelle a $500 scholarship so that she can continue her studies in Montreal. Please join us in wishing her the best in her endeavor!

The June 2009 issue of ISLANDS Magazine published a "Q&A" article about the history of the Killer Bee and the success of Sunshine's modest beachfront establishment.

Hazel Nisbett has worked here for 24 years and is a housekeeper. When she first started she cleaned guest rooms during the day and in the evening returned for turn down service then waited tables in the Great House.

Four NCAA Basketball Cinderella Hoopla Contest Winners Named

Four Couples Win Free Stays at “The Best Hotel in the Caribbean”

Nisbet Plantation, the Cinderella of the Caribbean, has declared its First Annual NCAA Basketball Cinderella Hoopla Contest a huge success! Over 5,000 people entered to win a free stay at Nisbet by guessing which teams would be named the men’s and women’s Cinderella NCAA Basketball teams for 2009.

Two lucky winners were drawn at random from those who correctly guessed the Cinderella teams. They have won a free 6-day/5-night stay at Nisbet!

Helen Woisetschlaeger from Sedona, AZ correctly guessed Arizona as the Men's 2009 NCAA Basketball Cinderella team. Arizona was the lowest ranked regional team (#12) to make it to the tournament’s Sweet 16.
Chesley Brown from Detroit, MI correctly guessed Michigan State as the Women's 2009 NCAA Basketball Cinderella team. The Lady Spartans (#9) had an impressive run beating higher ranked Middle Tennessee (#8), then knocking off #1 ranked Duke before losing to #4 Iowa by 1 point in a Sweet Sixteen matchup. The Michigan State men’s team made to the Championship game, but it was the Lady Spartans who are this year’s Cinderella team.

In addition to these winners, both coaches of the Cinderella teams will be receiving a free stay at Nisbet. After all the excitement of the tournament the coaches need some well deserved R&R and there is no better place than Nisbet. All you have to do is read the TripAdvisor reviews to know that!

Beautiful Nevis

The tropical island of Nevis has the perfect climate for colorful plants and animals.

Here are two examples you will see at Nisbet. The lizard is an Anolis bimaculatus and the flower is a Heliconia rostrata. Both are found at the hotel next to reception.

You can submit your photographs to our photo contest. Every other month we select one of your photos and post it to our Photo Contest Gallery online. Winners also get a $100 drink certificate to use on their next trip to Nisbet!

2009 Triathlon Winners

The 7th annual Nevis Triathlon held on March 15 was a great success. 108 competitors from 16 countries participated in the event hosted by the Nevis Cycle and Triathlon Club.

The Olympic Distance Male category saw Edgardo Velez of Puerto Rico come in first, Rafael Colon, also of Puerto Rico, a close second and Reggie Douglas, of Nevis, third.

Among the women, Janine Herweijer from the Netherlands was first, Kristina Stoney of Nevis second and Jayme Goldberg of the USA followed in third place.

Third place winner Jayme Goldberg of Plymouth Meeting, PA is a past Ironman participant. She and her husband, Andrew, were guests at Nisbet Plantation during the event.

In addition to placing third in the Olympic Distance Male category for the 2009 Nevis Triathlon, Nevis resident Reggie Douglas won the 2009 OECS (Organization of Eastern Caribbean States) Olympic Distance Triathlon. This is his 4th time winning this event!

Reggie runs our onsite biking, kayaking and windsurfing operation. So when you visit Nisbet you can stop by and meet our very own celebrity!

Nisbet Plantation's General Manager Jamie Holmes also participated in the 2009 Nevis Triathlon. Look at him go!

Our February 2009 Employee of the Month was Tishuana Nisbett.

Tishuana is originally from St. Kitts and has a wonderful warm welcome for all of our guests.

Visiting the Montravers Estate

Nevis is an island that is covered with the remains of historic sugar plantations.

Here are guests Lawrence, Françoise and Mia Hacking from Georgetown, Ontario at the Montravers Estate.

The Montravers Estate, constructed in the 18th century, was occupied and produced sugar for 300 years. This is one of the many landmarks you will come across on the Nevis' Heritage Trail.

Here is what is written on the sign:

Baobob Tree and Montravers Estate 18th Century

This hearty baobob tree defines the entrance to Montravers Estate, which was built by wealthy plantation owner John Pinney.

This baobob tree, the largest on the island, dates to about 1859. Its significance lies in its African origin. Traditionally, people would sit around this tree to socialize and chat. This tree marks the entrance to Montravers Estate, which was one of several sugar estates built by English planter John Pinney. This estate is particularly unusual because of the three story stone Greathouse and camel barn, which Pinney built to house six camels he brought in from England. The camels did not survive on Nevis, but the Greathouse remains, barn, cookhouse, and slave village still can be seen on the site, located about a mile up the road on the right.

Evenings at Nisbet are lively and entertaining. It is not uncommon for bartenders Dan and Kaddy to burst into song and quite often Patterson, Roslyn and even more of Nisbet's staff join in the fun!

Guests also get involved by dancing and singing or they simply lay back and enjoy the staff performance.

A Palm Planting Poem

Our new wedding tradition, planting a new coconut palm in honor of the bride and groom, has become quite a popular activity.

John & Joan Stainsby (pictured below with their new coconut palm) have been visiting Nisbet for 15 years and a were wed here 5 years ago. During their recent vacation they planted a new palm tree to commemorate their vows and enhance the environment.

Here is a poem that Joan wrote and read at their palm planting ceremony.

To plant a tree is a wonderful thing
It is somewhere for birds to sit and sing
May this tree grow tall and strong
To be here long after we are all gone
When people pass I hope they smile
and enjoy from John and Joan.

Voyages Films at Nisbet

Nisbet is now on film. Recently, Voyages visited Nisbet for a film shoot.

General Manager Jamie Holmes, as well as Guest Services Director Steve Tyson, Chef Antonio Piani and Pastry Chef Virgilio Mista and Valenica Griffin, demonstrating spa treatments, all were featured in the travel film.

Voyages is a next generation luxury travel platform that delivers video of destinations, properties and activities, including an entertaining introduction and in-depth look at the resort and destination.

The video is created in stunning high definition and will be featured on Voyages Television. The professionally produced video, hosted by experienced television host Lynn Parramore, gives luxury travelers an unparalleled preview of the Nisbet/Nevis vacation experience from the beach to the resort.

Off-Roading on Nevis

Nevis is home to hundreds of old estate roads, cart paths, and an upper round road, many of which are unaccessible except by horse, donkey or foot.

“Traveling the Nevis back-roads can be an adventurous and fun expedition as you travel through jungle, rain forest or scrub brush, a variant to seeing the island,” so says Nevis frequenter Greg Slagon, owner of Funky Monkey Tours and Down Island Sales and Rentals. “To see another facet of Nevis is one of the reason I started the off-road 4 x 4 tours, plus it gives me the excuse to bring in some really fun toys.”

New BA Flight from London to St. Kitts

Now it is even easier to get to Nisbet when you find yourself dreaming of a warm Caribbean escape during these icy winter months.

As of today, British Airways offers a flight each Saturday from London to St. Kitts. It is the only weekly scheduled service from the UK to the Federation.

The new BA service will depart London Gatwick’s airport at 10.30 a.m., arriving at the St. Kitts airport (SKB) at 4:45 p.m. The return flight will leave St. Kitts at 6:45 p.m., arriving at London (Gatwick) at 7:50 a.m. the next day. BA will use a three class, 280 seat Boeing 777 aircraft with 40 Club World seats, 24 World Traveler Plus and 216 World Traveler seats.

Once you have booked your travel schedule, be sure to let us know. We have representatives at both the St. Kitts and Nevis airports to greet you, but only if you call to let us know when you're arriving. Isaac, our representative at the St. Kitts airport can offer assistance with baggage claim and arranging water taxis.

18-Hole Golf Offer in 2009

What could be better than teeing off in a tropical paradise while on vacation in beautiful Nevis? 18-hole greens fees for only $100!

In 2009 guests at Nisbet Plantation can enjoy golfing at Nevis' own Robert Trent Jones 18-hole golf course for only $100 per person. Club rental is only $65 and golf carts are included in the greens fees.

Almost every hole on the Four Seasons Robert Trent Jones course has a backdrop of the island centerpiece, Mt. Nevis, a 3,200-foot volcano. When you are on the ninth fairway be sure to check out the view of the sea - you will find it unforgettable. And if you look close enough you may see monkeys perched in the trees lining the fairways.

The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones II in 1991 and is a par 71 with a total yardage of 6,766 yards.
