On Saturday, March 29 we turned off all non-essential lighting and electrical appliances from 8:00 to 9:00 pm. We even asked our guests to join us in the global movement by turning out their room lights and air-conditioners when they headed to the Great House for dinner.

We placed out more candles than usual for dinner service in the Great House Dining Room, so that in the absence of electrical lighting, the dining experience was even grander than guests were usually accustomed to. In addition, our pianist, Darren Sutton, entertained in the Great House Lounge. The ambiance of the candlelit dining room, complete with the sweet sounds of the Baby Grand and exquisite cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Tony Piani and his talented culinary team, enhanced the elegance of our 1787 Great House and conjured up images of yesteryear's splendor that remains on our gracious Plantation.

Please share with us how you participated in Earth Hour.Nisbet Plantationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10451650558345679598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5941038228583143528.post-78777229289418383212008-03-27T09:15:00.000-07:002008-06-06T09:21:08.179-07:00Alexander Hamilton Subject of PBS SpecialAlexander Hamilton, who was born on Nevis and later became one of the foremost early American statesmen, will be the subject of a new PBS 90-minute documentary.

Production is in the preliminary stages with filming scheduled for 2009 and broadcast in 2010. You heard it first on Nisbet’s Blog.

Hamilton was one of the most influential founding fathers establishing America’s economic system, justifying the Constitution in the Federalist Papers and helping George Washington with the American Revolution.

Perhaps because he never became President Hamilton is not as well known as many of the other founding fathers. Hopefully the documentary will shed more light on Alexander Hamilton and the wonderful little island where he was born.

If you have any little tidbits of information about Hamilton - especially his early years on Nevis - please share them with us.Nisbet Plantationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10451650558345679598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5941038228583143528.post-41697040812195418732008-03-21T08:08:00.000-07:002008-03-21T08:23:44.725-07:00Botanical Gardens of Nevis Open Year-Round!

Guests of Nisbet Plantation love to visit the Botanical Gardens of Nevis where hundreds of tropical species, whose origins span the globe, create seven heavenly acres and the foremost botanical display in the Caribbean.

The Rainforest Conservatory includes ruins of a lost temple where delicate floral treasures grow in the mist of thundering waterfalls.

You will be pleased to know the Botanical Gardens has new hours. Isn’t she wonderful?

So far an additional 15 feet of sand has magically appeared on the beach which is now almost completely seaweed free. The small rocks that used to be in the water making it sometimes difficult to wade in have all been covered with sand. Flights will originate from JFK and deliver vacationers to Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport (RLB) in St. Kitts. From there it is only a short private water taxi ride to sister island Nevis and Nisbet Plantation.

To celebrate Nisbet Plantation Beach Club being easier than ever to get to, the hotel is offering any guest flying into RLB free private water taxi transfers from St. Kitts to Nisbet Plantation. “Many of our guests insist that arriving by water is the most scenic and romantic way to arrive at one of the best hotels in the Caribbean,” says Glen Hurd, General Manager of Nisbet Plantation Beach Club. Nisbet is extending this offer to any guest flying to St. Kitts — not just those arriving on the new AA JFK service. Guests must book at least seven nights and stay between November 19 and December 19 to receive two round-trip transfers on Nisbet’s private water taxi. Following the interview, the inspector conducts a physical evaluation of the property which covers the following eight areas: exterior and grounds, public areas, room décor and ambiance, guest room amenities, bathrooms, housekeeping, management, and guest services.

The award places Nisbet Plantation in an exclusive one percent of over 60,000 properties who have earned the prestigious Four Diamond distinction. This, plus the fact that Nisbet Plantation is one of only a handful of Caribbean hotels to receive a perfect 5.0 rating from TripAdvisor.com affirms the recognizable level of luxury and service you have come to know at Nisbet Plantation.

In addition to the resort award, Nisbet Plantation’s Great House Dining Room, recently upgraded with air conditioning for warm Caribbean nights, also earned its own Four Diamond distinction for its creative cuisine, excellent service, and upscale surroundings.

Three cheers for the staff at Nisbet! Unfortunately the disease has started showing up in Nevis.

Here at Nisbet we take an active role in preserving the environment (see artificial reef article). We've begun our fight against the yellowing of the Palms by injecting them with special antibiotics. To learn more about saving the Palms throughout St. Kitts and Nevis we have invited Richard Maxwell a certified arborist and owner of Tree Saver to speak at a conference on the subject on Tuesday June 26 at 9am.

All are invited to attend the conference to hear Mr. Maxwell give facts about lethal yellowing, demonstrate how to administer medication and answer questions. The conference is free and refreshments will be served. If you have any questions for Mr. Maxwell or about the conference feel free to post a comment.
Nisbet Plantationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10451650558345679598noreply@blogger.com
