My best friend, Kara, wanted to go to Shreveport, LA for her birthday. She lives in Longview, TX so the drive to Shreveport isn’t that long… unfortunately my navigator, Brandon, decided to get us lost about 100 times with his so-called ‘short cuts’ which put us in for a 5 hour drive… all I have to say is thank goodness for iPhones! Otherwise I have a feeling we would still be driving around!!

When I went to HH with some fellow bloggers, Stephanie at Just the 2 of Us! surprised me with this cute Halloween bandanna for Vito!!

At first he wasn't so sure about what it was...

But then he got used to it :)

My Relaxing Day...

Today I am taking a Personal Day – I had some vacation I needed to use, and I wanted some much needed rest… and then I started thinking about all the things I could get accomplished today… so I made myself a To-Do List for my ‘relaxing day’ because it seems that I have to constantly be doing SOMETHING…

* Massage
*Post Office (drop something off and pick something up)
*Fabric Store (lots of small items to pick up)
*Finish Sewing Halloween Costume
*Buy New Shoes (apparently I am very tough on shoes because I ruin them REALLY fast!)

I will hopefully complete all or most of my tasks… especially the first one :)

Curtains, and Painting, and Sewing. Oh My!

This project started a couple of weeks ago, when I decided to hang curtains in my dining room. I had some pretty scarves, and thought they would go good - but then they came out looking like this... I hated it. I thought it looked too 'old' for me... So I went for a different 'clean' look and now I love it! I follow a VERY Creative blogger at Beneath my Heart where she transformed a drop cloth into curtains. Being that I just started sewing, I thought I could handle that! First, I had to paint my old rods... this process took the longest because I had limited room on my patio and it kept raining..

I bought this textured spray paint which worked great! This is the drop cloth I bought... The Home Depot guy thought I was a little weird... but just wait until you see the final project!! I had to wash, dry, and iron the drop cloths before I started the sewing, and I had to steam them A LOT because they are so thick...

I made the top!! I was very pleased with the way it came out - and how easy it was!
And then I hemmed the bottom... Because I re-used items I already had, I only had to purchase the drop cloths and the spray paint. So for around $60.00, I was able to hang curtains in my living room and dining room! YAY me!!

Honest Scrap

I have been tagged twice now to do this post by Stephanie at Just the 2 of Us and Emily at M's Memorable Moments, so here it goes!

1 – I never enjoyed reading growing up. I started reading Harry Potter when the 5th movie came out, I became infatuated with the HP world, and now I LOVE reading!

2 – I was a little nervous to move out on my own at first, but now I don’t think I could ever live with another roommate – I love my space!

3 – My eyes are my best and worst feature – I was born with glaucoma in both eyes and had surgery twice in both eyes for it. Had cataract surgery about 3 years ago in my right eye… I am that 1% that it was unsuccessful on… I have an incurable disease in my right eye that causes it to water constantly (DO NOT ask me if I am crying!). But people tell me I have pretty eyes, and the doc’s say it’s a miracle that I can see, so I consider myself very blessed.

4 – Vito was not the kind of dog I was looking for. I wanted a fluffy, white, girl dog… but when I saw him, it was love at first sight! I could not imagine having a different dog!!

5 – I cannot stand it if my Mom or Sister’s are mad at me… anyone else I can deal with, but it bugs me to death if I am in a fight with one of them…

6 – I do have regrets in my life. There are things I wish I would have done differently, or would have come to realize earlier.

7 – I LOVE this time of year! I love decorating for Fall, Halloween, Christmas, etc. I already have my fall decorations up – pictures to follow up soon :)

8 – Nothing means more to me then my family. Family is always there for you… I consider my best friend like a sister to me as well, so Kara also fits into that category.

9 – Strangers scare me. I do not like people I do not know coming up to me – maybe this is why I usually date someone that I have been introduced to by a mutual friend?? There are too many weirdo/freaks out there! I am usually very rude to a stranger that approaches me…

10 – I am double-jointed. I can pop my shoulder in and out of socket (most people think it’s gross-looking), I’m really flexible, I can lick my elbow, etc

Sewing!!

My sister and I decided to try and tackle another craft.... Sewing! I took Home Ec in Jr. High, but that was the extent of my sewing knowledge... We both purchased machines, sewing kits, fabric, and patterns and were good to go! My Mom came over (coffee in tow) to help us understand some of the basics.

At first, I did not enjoy it at all... I somehow managed to break my needle while trying to thread the machine (still don't know how I did this)

This is my first stitch! I was so proud :) Yes, I realize it is just a pink line... but I made it without breaking a needle!

This is the dress I made for Karys! I think it turned out pretty good for my first creation!

And it fits! This was what Vito was doing most of the time I was sewing... sleeping in the chair next to me... I love that little boy :) Now I am excited about sewing and wondering what I will make next! I have a lot of room to improve, but I'm getting the hang of it! Yay!

I finished all of the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series and loved EVERY second of it! I HIGHLY recommend these novels! They are so good, that I would rather have a member of the Brotherhood rather than Edward! Now that says a lot!

(and if you have read them, I would take Rehv, Z, Butch or V - all over Edward!)
I switched gears completely to this Emily Giffin Novel. I read Something Borrowed and Something Blue, loved them both and heard mixed reviews about Love the One You're With. Personally, I enjoyed it and am glad I read it. If you liked the other two novels by Emily Giffin, I do not think this one will let you down.

And now I am back on a Vampire Series... I just cannot stay away from vampires! I love them! I started watching HBO's True Blood and was hooked! My sister read the series in which the TV show is based from, and knew I would enjoy them as well - I am only about 40 pages in, but I can already tell I am going to love this series too :)

In Miami, we went to a club in South Beach. It was really cool - it was the typical Miami Club Scene!!

We're all, talking, laughing, drinking, etc... I was on my 2nd drink when I told Justin I didn't feel good and needed to go to the bathroom. I turned around to face the bar, and I just fainted. Luckily I fell sideways, landed on my friend, and slid down the side of him...

My first thought was that someone slipped something in my drink. They brought me to the bathroom I put my head in-between my legs and I started sweating, but I never got sick, so I didn't think it was the result of a spiked drink... and the fact that I was with 4 doctors, all of which diagnosed me with dehydration... guess I was in good company for something like that to happen! but talk about embarrassing! 'Hi, I'm Ashley and Justin's friend, watch me faint!' haha - nothing like that has ever happened to me before!!! Justin went and grabbed the car, we all went back to Justin's where they continued to drink, and I was stuck with Gatorade water!

Of course one of my first concerns was "please tell me I didn't flash anyone when I fell!" (I was wearing a dress) but they all said I faint like a lady - legs crossed to the side and everything :) All I was missing was the dramatic hand across my forehead! haha

I guess next time I go on the beach for 4-5 hours, I will remember to drink water while I am out there... apparently I get dehydrated pretty fast!

Welcome to Miami!

Over this past weekend, I went to Miami to visit my friend Justin, along with my other friend David (aka Bull). I had such a great time!! Here are some pic's!

The first night, we went to a bar called Wet Lab. It was a cool, low-key bar that overlooked the water - it was so pretty!!

I am IN LOVE with Miami Beaches!! I was in shoulder deep water and could still see my feet! It was amazing! See how BLUE?!?!I was very happy to be on the beach :)
Tony, the guy laying on his back, fell asleep on the beach with his cigar in his mouth!! We thought it was hilarious :)
We went to a Club in South Beach called Mansion to experience what true Miami night life was all about!!

Justin introduced us to Cuban Espresso's, called Colada's. I am obsessed with them - they are SO tastey - no matter how hot it is outside!! I may have to purchase an espresso machine now...

I will def make another trip to Miami!! When I was on the beach, I really didn't feel like I was in the United States! I'm used to Galveston water... and you just cannot compare!

Lots to update you on!!! Riding the bus to and from work allows me about an hour more of reading time 4 days a week - one of the perks to taking the bus into downtown :)

I of course finished re-reading all seven Harry Potter Novels... I doubt I need to tell you what I thought about them :)

Something Borrowed and Something Blue, both by Emily Giffin, had been recommended by multiple people... now I am wondering what took me so long to start them!! I finished both of these in about a week because I couldn't put them down! They really capture you from the very beginning - I loved them!

I was going to start another Emily Giffin Novel, but then my sister turned me on to this new series… It’s AMAZING! I am hooked! It’s a vampire series… but for adults!! Its basically everything that Twilight was missing!! It’s called The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by J.R. Ward. You will NOT be disappointed… I am currently on number 5 out of 7, with the promise of another one coming out in a year!

I am open to any recommendations!! My reading list is forever growing!

Lesson Learned!

I purchased a new dress for a funeral I recently attended. When I got home, I hung it in my closet and didn’t bother looking at it again (mistake #1), I knew I liked the dress so I threw away the receipt (mistake #2)…

The morning of the service, I pulled the dress off the hanger, and there it was – the sensor the store did not remove! And of course the alarm did not go off as I was walking out of the store… I had to leave in 30 minutes, and did not have another black dress to wear… My luck!!Luckily, the sensor was black and located in the back, underneath the collar. My cousin safety pinned the collar down so that it would not accidently poke out - I had to keep my hair down all day because I had a huge bulge coming from the back of my neck! I don’t think anyone saw it… or if they did, they were polite enough not to point it out… I will make sure to inspect my clothes from now on before I throw away my receipts… (sigh)

Tuesday Ten!

So many things have changed since the last time I posted (sorry for the slacking!) So instead of doing a post for each, I decided to do it all in one…

10 Things that Have Recently Changed…

1 – I am going to be an Aunt again!!! My sister and my BIL are still in the first trimester, but I am SO excited!! Being an Aunt is so great!!!
2 – I'm back on the market.
3 – Which means we had to cancel our trip to Cancun :( so sad…
4 – VEGAS!!! I went for the very first time EVER! I had the time of my life, and I am ready to go back!
5 – I colored my hair for the first time! I went very light for a couple of months... but as of this weekend, I am back to being a brunette again (and I like it much better!)
6 – I lost a good friend of mine in a tragic car accident...
7 – I am going to Miami at the end of this month. (traveling a lot lately!)
8 – Made my first purchase from the Coach Store!!! I am in LOVE!
9 – My little sister graduated high school and is going to be starting College in a few short weeks!! I cannot believe it!!!
10 – I bought a MACBOOK PRO Laptop! Now I don’t have excuse for not blogging at home anymore...

What did I think??

I have had a lot of people ask me what I thought about The Half-Blood Prince…. So here it goes…. Before the movie: The line was insane! We got there around 10:15-10:20pm and the line was already so long, it was outside the door! We happened to be in line behind a group dressed as Snape, Mad-Eye, Tonks, and of course Harry Potter, so they kept us entertained :)

The Movie: This movie was amazing! I loved every minute of it! I was cracking up laughing at all the back and forth banter and the love triangles – it really was hilarious! They changed the Harry/Ginny story a little, but I actually liked it better in the movie. I think Tom Felton did a great job as Draco – much better then he has been in the previous films!! However, I am a little disappointed in the ending. I won’t put any spoilers on here, but the ending was very different from the book and I feel the book was more true to the characters. I feel they left out a very crucial part, and with it being the ending, that was my last impression. I will definitely be seeing this movie again though. It really is a GREAT HP Film! I can’t wait to see what they do with the seventh now!

I have had my eye on this patio furniture set for some time… and then my cousin emailed me telling me it went on sale! Well how in the world could I pass that up?!?!

My Mom met me so we could use her SUV (I have the worst car for moving things – however it is oh so cute!). She helped me bring it up to the apt, un-wrap it, and set it all up! I absolutely love it! I sat out there one night just by myself, no book, no phone, and no wine – just me and Vito. The wind was blowing; it was so quiet and relaxing. Perfect for clearing my mind from all the stress I’ve had lately… Thanks for helping me Mom!! You’re the best! Don’t know what I would have done without you!!! I love you!

Sorry It's Been So Long!!!

I know, I know – where have I been?? I honestly don’t have a good excuse, except that I have been completely swamped at work, and the last thing I feel like doing in the evenings is getting on a computer… especially mine because its so old and slow I am scared its going to explode any minute…

I have been reading up a storm lately! I started (and finished) all three of Jen Lancaster’s Memoirs’. I have followed her blog for quite some time and was happily entertained by how funny and witty she is; but had not read one of her novels, even though my sister told me repeatedly how hilarious they were.

Then I found out she was coming to Houston!!! Well, of course I wanted to go meet her with my sister!! But I couldn’t go meet the author if I had never read one of her novels!! So I picked up Bitter is the New Black and started reading… and then I couldn’t put it down! On to #2 – Big Lights, Big A$$– again, not putting it down!! Now for #3 – Such a Pretty Fat – had me laughing out loud!!! She was coming to Houston to promote Book #4 – Pretty in Plaid. I am now about ½ way through it and seeing she hasn’t lost her charm!

It was so cool getting to meet her! I had never met an author before! She did a reading, took some questions, and then started signing – Stephanie and I were of course no more than 5 people back :) Here are some pics from our exciting meeting with Jen Lancaster!!!
