Let’s do something now to ensure this lasts us!

Shorten your showers to less than 10 minutes. Already doing it in less than 10 minutes? Make it 7.

Turn off the water while you're brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing your face.

Leaky faucet or shower head? A dripping faucet can waste up to 2,000 gallons/7,600 liters of water a year. Check the plumbing in your house and repair the leaks as soon as possible.

Ask your parents if they’d like to invest in low-flush toilets, shower heads and faucet aerators. You’ll save thousands of gallons of water each year and your parents’ water bill will be lower!

Call your water utility company and ask for a copy of their latest water quality report. Public water utilities regularly test the quality of the drinking water they provide to customers.

Reduce your use of pesticides and fertilizers, and look for safer alternatives to control weeds and bugs. Lawn and garden pesticides and fertilizers can pollute the water. Some alternatives are geraniums to repel Japanese beetles; garlic and mint to repel aphids; and marigolds to repel whiteflies.

To make the most of the water you use outdoors, never water at the hottest time of day (usually in the early to mid-afternoon)or when it's windy. Turnoff your sprinklers when it’s raining. On average, 50% - 70% of household water is used outdoors for watering lawns and gardens.

Have a garden? Use mulch. It helps to conserve water by holding moisture in the earth longer.

To view more water saving tips and ideas, please visit:
http://www.blogger.com/www.awarenessideas.com

hzaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14777240939812859786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5849151484854111451.post-91261304937415741592008-05-30T00:20:00.004-04:002008-05-30T00:41:28.937-04:00A Few Ways That Your Home Can Save WaterWant to cut down on the water bill? Here is some water-saving technology for your house that will help you reach your water conservation goals:

1. Low flush toilets. They use much less water than a normal flush toilet, cutting it down to 1.6 gallons per flush as opposed to 7 gallons.

2. Low-flow shower heads. They are also called "energy-efficient shower heads" because they use less energy as well.

3. Wastewater reuse or recycling systems, which recycle wastewater through purification at a water treatment plant.

Know of any more money-saving tips that also help the world around us? Here are some helpful tips to conserve water during spring/summer-related activities:

1. Plant during the spring or fall when the watering requirements are lower.

2. Evaporative coolers require a seasonal maintenance checkup. For more efficient cooling, check your evaporative cooler annually.

3. Check your sprinkler system frequently and adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk, or street.

4. Avoid planting turf in areas that are hard to water such as steep inclines and isolated strips along sidewalks and driveways.

5. Install covers on pools and spas and check for leaks around your pumps.

For products promoting water conservation, visit us at AwarenessIdeas.com.A. Repair or replace any equipment leaking water immediately.

Use shut-off nozzles on hoses
Use nozzles which completely turn off the water when you are not using it; they also help to more effectively direct water than using your finger to create a stream.

Prioritize Your Springtime Watering Needs Outdoors
Now is a great time for you to prioritize the watering needs of all outdoor plants and trees. Take the time to determine which area of your yard needs the most water.

Keep weeds out of flower and vegetable gardens
Weeds begin to appear around springtime and warmer weather. Weeds are notorious for stealing water away from other plants, so if you’ll keep their populations in check, you won’t have to water as often. With lawns, remove weeds by hand whenever possible to avoid tough competition.

Capture and recycle rainwater
Place rain barrels or buckets beneath your downspouts. 1,000 sq. ft. of roof surface will collect 420 gallons of water in every inch of rainfall. You can use rainwater for outdoor plants and trees or to wash your car.

Check out our posters that have great Water Conservation messages for spring!

Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04671365069224197554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5849151484854111451.post-83654551826070091922008-03-28T08:01:00.001-04:002008-03-28T08:03:56.210-04:0025 Days til Earth Day!On 22nd April there will be Earth Day events around the world.
Since the first Earth Day in 1970, people around the world have been creating their own ways to celebrate Earth, to observe the beauty and vitality of nature-and to renew their commitment to saving our living planet.
We at www.AwarenessIdeas.com have been helping people in their efforts to conserve energy, recycle, and conserve water since the start of Earth Day.
We have created 1,000's of products with just the right message to encourage and remind people to do what they can to save our planet.

Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04671365069224197554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5849151484854111451.post-89001946418901033482008-03-23T20:56:00.005-04:002008-03-23T21:05:16.887-04:00What you pour down your drain can be a big icky problemYour employees need to know that disposing of improper liquids or solids down drains can become a big costly problem. Most leaks, aside from toilets, are in faucets and are most commonly caused by worn washers. Make it a point to check all faucets in the house and office once or twice a year.
A good hardware or plumbing supply store will have necessary replacement parts.
Many different kinds of water-saving devices and fixtures are on the market, ranging from special reduced-flow shower heads to water-thrifty shallow-trap toilets. A variety of shower head adapters also is available to cut down water use in existing fixtures.

We have great decals and posters at www.AwarenessIDEAS.com that you can put up at work to remind everybody to report any leaks and get them repaired before too much water is wasted.

Here are a couple of examples:

Jenniferhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04671365069224197554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5849151484854111451.post-45523056261961331432007-11-18T19:59:00.000-05:002007-11-18T20:04:19.618-05:00Water Conservation can be done a sip at a timeConserving water starts with consuming water. When we drink from a faucet, we run the risk of over filling the glass or letting water spill back into the sink. In addition, using a glass encourages us to consume more water, as we feel the water supply is infinite. Also, consuming tap water in many parts of the country has proven to be dangerous (or at least not completely safe) because of the additives or impurities that make it's way into our drinking water. All of these reasons have made our decision to offer custom branded bottled water ane asy one.

Our Bottled Waters are perfect for a variety of events and occasions. Corporate events, conventions, fundraising, even sporting events are just a few ways to use our Custom Labeled PET Bottles to get your brand to market. Our water is the healthy choice to make for your next event. All of our exclusive Natural Spring Water is from the best water sources that the United States of America has to offer: English Mountain Spring Water from the pristine Smokey Mountains of Tennessee or the 2007 Gold Medal Winner of the Berkley Spring Best Tasting Award of Mt. Palomar in Sunny Southern California. This water can be easily customized with your logo, event date, water conservation message or other information.

http://www.awarenessideas.com/wh013-Water-Conservation-12oz-Bottled-Water-p/wh013-01.htmDenis Baldwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04189654726550902610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5849151484854111451.post-71883129354378173832007-11-09T17:13:00.000-05:002007-11-09T17:14:44.576-05:00Promote water conservation at the table.
I found this tip on the AwarenessIDEAS.com website under water conservation. “Don’t let the waiter bring water unless you request it. To give you and idea how big that is, consider it in terms of fish tanks. Most home fish tanks are 20 to 30 gallon. That's 30-50 of those tanks stacked together. If you think of larger aquariums, those are about 100 gallons. That's 10 large aquariums worth of water!

Why am I bringing up 1000 gallons as being an important number?

Because cutting your showers down to just 5 minutes/day will save up to 1000 gallons per month. That's a huge savings both in your water bill and your electric or gas bill (from heating the water).

We've designed a poster to drive home this message.

http://www.awarenessideas.com/wp362-Water-Conservation-Poster-p/wp362.htmDenis Baldwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04189654726550902610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5849151484854111451.post-10293300405333332752007-10-30T14:39:00.000-04:002007-10-30T14:41:46.030-04:00Turn off the water!Today I thought I'd create a message that would inspire an action toward conserving water. By turning these tips into colorful posters, I've made it so you too can share information on how to cut costs and reserve resources!

http://www.awarenessideas.com/wp353-Water-Conservation-Poster-p/wp353.htm

http://www.awarenessideas.com/wp354-Water-Conservation-Poster-p/wp353.htm

http://www.awarenessideas.com/wp355-Water-Conservation-Poster-p/wp353.htm

To find more water conservation tips, ideas, and products visit:

http://www.awarenessideas.com/Water-Conservation-s/5.htm
hzaynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14777240939812859786noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5849151484854111451.post-74979911140635330162007-10-28T20:07:00.000-04:002007-10-28T20:13:02.761-04:00Dirty Sidewalk? Use a broom instead of a hose. The temptation to wash the dirt and debris off from your sidewalk, porch, patio or walkway is an easy one to give into. These areas are often cleaned in a short time and left wet to dry, which makes for an easy exercise in tidying up your lawn.

However, every time you do this, you waste atleast 80 gallons of water. That's 80 days worth of clean drinking water for everyone in your family. That's 80 gallons of water you have to pay for both in consumption and waste to your water bill. That's 80 gallons you could avoid using because there's another way to get the job done.

So next time, pick up a broom and put down the hose. A few strokes of a push broom is a great step towards water conservation.

Here's a poster we've created to reinforce this message:

http://www.awarenessideas.com/wp354-Water-Conservation-Poster-p/wp354.htmDenis Baldwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04189654726550902610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5849151484854111451.post-70915036030228389422007-10-26T00:00:00.000-04:002007-10-29T00:03:55.384-04:00Water Saving Ideas are only a click awayWith so many conflicting stories about water conservation out there, it's nice to have a fun informational item like our Water Wheel to help guide us in our water conservation efforts. Similarly a blog about politics might examine what weight environmental policy holds in the political arena.

Posts do not need to have any specific agenda, they simply need to relate to the larger issue in whatever way suits the blogger and readership. Our aim is not to promote one particular viewpoint, only to push the issue to the table for discussion.

Commit to donating their day’s advertising earnings to an environmental charity of their choice. There is a list of "official" Blog Action Day charities on the site, however bloggers are also free to choose an alternate environmental charity to donate to if they wish.

Watch for a few posts today from our staff to see how we each contribute to a healthier world in our individual positions at AwarenessIDEAS. You'll hear from our designers, marketing, the president of the company and even our accounting department. Much like in every company, each person can make a difference.

I encourage anyone reading this blog who has a blog of their own to participate. No matter what your blog is about, you can write about your impact on the world, how you work to be green or anything else that comes to mind.Denis Baldwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04189654726550902610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5849151484854111451.post-48043310417158311882007-10-14T00:04:00.000-04:002007-10-29T00:08:53.418-04:00When you lay in bed at night, do you count sheep or the tick of your energy meter? When you go to sleep tonight, will you have pleasant dreams of a time when your energy bill was low and all was well or will you wake up to the nightmare of rising energy costs?

The stresses of mounting energy costs will no longer be something you will lose sleep over.

Our Glow-in-the-dark Energy Conservation Magnet will be the last reminder you need each night before you sleep. If it's flushed down your toilet, down your drain, through your shower or one of your sinks, it's likely headed to a treatment facility. What about the water you use to water your lawn, wash your car, clean off your driveway?

One of the things I learned when I moved to Lakeland, Florida is the nature of water runoff. The saying you see on every sign at the end of every street here is "All water drains to lake". Now consider what's in this water. If you're washing your car, you likely have detergents and wax and dirt and a variety of cleaners mixed with the water. If it's from your yard or your driveway, consider all of the potential automotive chemicals that are now draining to a lake. This is a big problem for lake pollution levels!

We need to protect our wetlands. This poster reminds us of ways we can minimize our impact on our precious water supply.

http://www.awarenessideas.com/wp219-Water-Conservation-Poster-p/wp219.htmDenis Baldwinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04189654726550902610noreply@blogger.com
