Chinese Dragon Camp

June 29 – July 24, 2009

For Grades 6 – 12. Monday to Friday, at the Bangor Chinese School, 53 Cumberland St., Bangor.

$175 for all four weeks, lunch included.

Scholarships are available. Some schools may grant H.S. credits.

Applications are in the guidance office.

Wabanaki Writers Camp

Wabanaki Writers Project will sponsor its second annual writing camp this summer for Wabanaki students in grades 8 – 12. The six-day camp will take place at Chewonki Big Eddy near Mt. Katahdin from Sunday, July 19^th to Friday July 24^th. All expenses will be paid for the 16 students selected from Maliseet, Mi’kmaq, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot communities in Maine. Applications are in guidance.

The Maine State Police Career Program

The Maine State Police will be hosting a three-day Career Orientation Program to be held on July 29, 30 and 31, 2009. The Program is open to any High School Junior or Senior who may be interested in learning about a career with the Maine State Police. Lodging and meals will be provided at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro to those selected and invited from a pool of submitted applications. There is no fee associated with the program, and overnight stay will be a requirement. If interested the paperwork in guidance. Deadline is June 1.

Attention All Cadets and their Parents/Guardians: All JROTC uniforms must be turned in this week during JROTC classes! (26-29 May) Please remember to bring in ALL uniform items! We will not be collecting ANY BDU items. You DO NOT have to dry clean your uniforms, however t-shirts and socks should be laundered before turn-in. If you have any questions regarding turn-in, see LTC Lauria or MSG Olsen immediately! Do not turn in uniforms at the supply room. Uniforms will only be accepted in class.

Talent Show and Elections

Congratulations to the OTHS JROTC Raider Challenge Team

Congratulations to the OTHS JROTC Raider Challenge Team for a great 2008-2009 season. The Team took 1^st Place overall at the first competition at Sacopee Valley High School and recently took 2^nd Place Trophies overall (with a 1^st Place Trophy in Land Navigation) at the Northern New England League competition at the University of Maine at Orono this past Saturday. The Old Town HS cadets competed in five tough events; Army Physical Fitness Test, 5KM Road March, One Rope Bridge, Land Navigation Lanes and a comprehensive written test. Please congratulate members of the Old Town Raider Team; C/CPT J. Gamperle, C/CPT R. Bickmore, C/1LT D. Manion, C/CSM Larby, C/CPT R. Bickford, C/1SG J. Libbey, C/CPT L. Bartlett, C/1LT L. Summer Course

This 8 week class is for 16, 17 and 18 year old students. The cost is $400.00 and starts June 22^nd until August 14^th.

University of Maine at Fort Kent is offering a French Discovery Camp that will run June 29 – July 2

The First 12 applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Military Academy Seminar

All Students: There will be an opportunity to learn about how to apply for the Military Service Academy programs, (US Military Academy at West Point as well as Naval, Air Force, and Merchant Marine Academies. There will be representatives from the Senior ROTC program as well. The event will be at the Bangor Airport Sheraton Four Points Hotel in the Conference Room. DATE: Wednesday, May 13^th, 6:00 – 8:30 PM. There will also be representatives from congressional offices to answer questions about the nomination process. Since OTHS JROTC is an Honor Unit with Distinction, we can nominate students who are enrolled in OTHS JROTC for entrance. Pre-registration is not required, but is helpful. You may register by calling 1-800-227-8465 at Maine Maritime Academy (Event Host). This is an incredible opportunity for those planning to enter the military to serve as officers. POC is LTC Lauria
