I always steer them away from that because of all the scams in that field. However, there is a way to make a living typing from home. You can work from home doing transcription for business owners.

A lot of times people confuse a general transcriptionist with a medical or legal transcriptionist. Often times they think that all three things fall under the duty of transcriptionist. In reality, all three areas are very different. In fact in order to provide legal or medical transcription services you generally have to be specialized and have went through some form of schooling.

As a general transcriptionist, you don’t have to be specialized and it doesn’t require any sort of training. You do need to be a fairly decent typist (about 65 or more words per minute), be able to edit your work for spelling and grammar errors and that’s about it.

A general transcriptionist that works from home will more than likely provide their services to those that are looking to have things like teleconferences, podcasts or interviews transcribed.

As a transcriptionist you can make a decent income if you put the time and effort into it. You will need to find your own clients, but the guide gives you tips on that. It will take time to build you business, but over time, you should be able to earn a nice income.

What do you need to be a good transcriptionist?

Along with good typing skills there are a few other key traits. Helpful skills are:

Ability to apply common sense. Often you won't understand what the dictation is saying and you will need to try to put the phrase into context to figure out what the speaker means.

A keen eye for detail. This will help in proofreading and editing to ensure you turn in the highest quality work.

Strong work ethics. You'll have to meet deadlines and be extremely reliable.

Good organization skills. If you have a lot of clients, it's important to stay organized.

Good communication skills. For marketing your business and dealing with clients.

Professionalism and discreetness (often times you'll be transcribing very sensitive documents which require full confidentiality.)

Basic computer skills and the ability to get around a word processing program

Good grasp of the English language

Click the link below to read about a guide to help you get started in your own Transcription business.

Transcription BusinessHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-5043721309000150262008-04-30T13:36:00.004-04:002008-04-30T13:49:47.104-04:00Start a Resume Writing BusinessHi,

Would you like a home based business that is low cost to start up and maintain? How about one with flexible hours where you can control your workload?

If you said YES! then how about considering starting a resume writing business? The great thing about a resume business is that it is always in demand. There are always people looking for jobs and a resume is the first impression a prospective employer sees, so many are willing to pay good money for a professional resume.

It is something you can do easily from the comfort of your own home. Not sure where to start? Here is a great guide written by a lady, Teena Rose, who started a resume writing business from a corner of her home and grew it into a respected and prominent business. Thanks to all of you who were praying for us.

I wanted to talk to you today about a way to make money that, once it's set up, can make you money without you having to work on it everyday.

I don't usually say things like that, and it will take time to get to that point. But I can endorse this particular way of earning money because my son is using it.

It's called Adsense. Adsense ads are the ads you see on a website from Google. They might be on the top or bottom of a page, or down the left/right side columns. Whenever someone clicks on one of those ads, both Google and the website owner earn money. (not a goldmine, mind you, but they can add up, especially if you have multiple sites.)

The nice thing about this is that there is not a big start up cost and it doesn't take a lot of money to maintain it. Mainly your time (in the beginning) and the cost to host your website.

Joel Comm is like the father of Adsense and he has just come out with an updated version of "Adsense Secrets."

The unbelievable part of this is what he's charging. In the past, he has charged $97 for his Adsense ebooks, but he is offering this for only $9.95!

You can pick it up here:
Adsense Secrets

Have a good week.
LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-161489841976647442008-04-22T08:40:00.002-04:002008-04-22T08:42:22.742-04:00Taking time offHi,

I just wanted to write a short post and say I won't be blogging this week. Some have a lot to say and are never at a loss as to what to blog about. Others may feel it's an overwhelming task and too much to take on.

Whatever camp you're in, blogging can be a way to interact with your target market. As you are doing this, you can recommend and promote either your own products or affiliate products, and thereby, generate some income.

You may not get rich from the income you make from blogging (some do, but probably not the majority), but it can be a good additional income stream.

Make sure you identify who you are on your blog. I really don't like going to a blog where I can't find out who owns it. Tell more than just your name - tell what you do, how long you've done it, and tell a little about your family and background. A blog is much more informal than a website, where the conversation is one-sided. This is your chance to let people get to know you (and thereby trust you.)

Blog consistently - whether it's every day or a few times a week, be consistent. If you have good things to share, people will look forward to your next post, so don't disappoint them.

Get known - post comments on other people's blogs in your niche with a link back to yours. Become a "guest blogger" on some blogs in your niche.

Join some social networking sites to get your name out there.

If you haven't started a blog yet, consider doing so. If you are interested in the craft or cooking niche, the links below will take you to guides that will help you in monetizing your blog.

Recipe Blogging

Craft Blogging

Happy blogging!
LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-81323495118363974092008-04-09T10:10:00.003-04:002008-04-09T13:49:55.731-04:00What's a "twitter?"Hi,

I thought I'd write this before I go for my morning walk. I"m so glad to be walking outside again. The weather has been beautiful for walking, so I'm going to take advantage of it.

Have you ever heard of Twitter? It's a social networking site and I just joined yesterday. I am not big on social networking sites and have always considered them to be a waste of time. But yesterday, I was listening to a webinar and the topic was just that. It seems to be important now for search engine rankings. So, I thought I'd try it. I am not going to spend a lot of time on it, but thought I should at least see what all the talk is about.

I do believe forums are a good marketing tool. If you join forums related to your niche, it's a great place to get to know people and to let them get to know you. As they do, you can make some subtle recommendations and tell about your business.

Again, you don't want to spend hours a day in forums, but if you set a specified amount of time and stick to it, they can be a good way to get your name out there and known.

If you want to join or follow me on twitter, you can go here: twitter.com/laurieneumann It could prove to be a good marketing tool for you.

LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-43661883153178152352008-04-07T09:23:00.003-04:002008-04-07T09:34:50.400-04:00Ways to Make Money OnlineHi,

We had a beautiful day here in Rochester yesterday. My husband and I, after church, went for a walk by the canal that's not too far away. It's so nice there - peaceful and in a pretty setting. Is spring starting to blossom where you are?

I had the opportunity, over the weekend, to review a new ebook that's out. It's called "Real People Making Money Online." It was interesting to read about the different things people are doing online to earn money.

What I liked most about it was the fact that it's realistic. The criteria for someone to be included in this book was that they were making at least $1000 per month online. That's not an outrageous amount - but it is an amount that sure would help pay the bills. Some are making much more than $1,000, but they all earn at least that much.

I also liked the fact that they are all doing something different online and they are not involved in "cookie cutter" type businesses. They are businesses that are unique and that they created themselves. Some were developed from an interest, some saw a need and filled it.

It should give you encouragement that there are MANY ways to make money online and might give you some ideas of how you can do the same.

You can pick it up for $37 at the link below. If you visit the link, you'll be able to see exactly who's included in the book. It's compiled by a mom of two young children, who by the way, is also making at least $1,000 per month.

Real People Making Money Online

Enjoy!
LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-76114615479803480572008-04-04T10:21:00.004-04:002008-04-04T10:38:11.909-04:00Earn with the "natural"Hi,

Are you into the "natural?" Maybe you try to eat healthy. Or you use natural cleaning products. Or you feel using natural skin care products is the only way to go. Maybe you homeschool. Or maybe you try to use only natural/organic diapers/clothing on your little ones.

Any of these can classify you as a "naturalist." If this is something you feel strongly about, you probably already share your views, ideas and recommendations with others. Why not get paid for it?

There are many ways to do this, such as selling your own product. Maybe you have come up with homemade skin care products or cleaning solutions. Or maybe you have written homeschool curriculum. Possibly you have come up with some great healthy recipes. You could market and sell these products and start earning some money from it.

You could sell affiliate products if you don't have your own. If there are products you use that you love, see if they have an affiliate program that you could join and start selling their products. You would make a commission on them when you sell them.

You could start a blog and blog about your interest in the natural. You could monetize your blog by promoting your own products, affiliate products, or by adsense (ads Google places on your blog.)

There are many possibilities here. If you want advice from someone who has done it, visit the page below. It's a start up guide by Carrie Lauth, who always provides great information.

Natural Business Information Guide

Don't delay - the sooner you get started, the sooner you can be on your way to a business that you love!

Have a great weekend!
LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-60239294735088700522008-03-31T09:58:00.007-04:002008-03-31T10:16:18.930-04:00Want to do work from home transcription?Hi,

I want to talk to you today about work from home transcription.

I come across many people who want to do data entry at home. Unfortunately, I have to discourage them from that because of how many scams there are out there in that field.

What I do recommend to them, if they are a good typist, is to consider starting their own Transcription business. That would involve transcribing audio/video recordings to typed text.

There are SO many people today using audio/video presentations. Everytime I turn around I am getting another email about a call (teleseminar) being held for some reason or another. Those calls are recorded and will need transcribing.

I think if you have good typing skills, there is a lot of work out there. Of course, you need to be willing to look for it and promote yourself and be persistent.

Don't confuse this with Medical Transcription. What I am talking about here is general transcribing - no medical knowledge needed.

Take a look at the guide below that outlines how to get a Transcription Business started.

Transcription Guide

Have a great week!
LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-87672670279695585072008-03-26T15:47:00.003-04:002008-03-26T15:54:10.840-04:00Use ezines for a successful businessHi,

I listened to Part 1 of a call by Alexandria Brown, known as the "Ezine Queen." She shared great information on how to produce profitable ezines (emails).

This was a free call - she said it will be her last free call on ezines. She will be doing Part 2 tomorrow night (Thursday) so you can still sign up for it. There are going to be some business owners sharing about how these strategies helped them grow a successful business.

You can click on the link below to sign up. There are already 6,000 registered to listen to these calls, so they had to secure four phone lines to make sure everyone gets on!

http://www.ezinequeen.com/boostbizcall.htmHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-37186623606620784402008-03-24T10:08:00.005-04:002008-03-24T10:17:35.379-04:0031 free blogging tips!Hi,

I hope you had a wonderful Easter. How good it is to remember what Jesus did for us and what they means to us. We had a very nice church service and went out to dinner later on.

I mentioned a few weeks back that I was going to be following 31 tips to better blogging during that March. Well, you know how some plans don't always go the way you thought? I made if for about the first five days, then got busy doing other things and haven't really gotten back to it.

So I thought I would just give you the link to where you can read about the 31 tips to better blogging yourself. I still want to tackle them (at least the majority of them) but I think it may take longer than I anticipated.

Here's the link - it's free, so take advantage.

http://northxeast.com/blogging/31-days-to-becoming-a-better-blogger

Have a good week!
LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-37916069750054431202008-03-19T12:32:00.005-04:002008-03-19T12:47:26.585-04:00Want some guidance finding telecommuting jobs?Hi,

Well, it's a rainy, foggy day in New York today. The forecast is that it will get colder again, so I guess that means more snow:-(

I wanted to tell you today about an ebook that was just released by Nell Telercio of justonlinejobs.com Nell is known as the "Telecommuting Answer Lady" and rightly so. She has five years experience with telecommuting and knows a LOT about it.

She has written an ebook called " Job Search Answers - How to Find and Land Your Work at Home Job". I had the opportunity to review her ebook (you will see my review on her sales page) and it is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to telecommute. Remember - she is writing from EXPERIENCE.

Some of the topics she covers are:

Types of Telecommuting positions

Steps to a successful job search

WHERE to search

Resumes

Interviews

and so much more!

If you have been thinking about telecommuting, this would be a valuable resource for you to pick up.

Click the link below to read more about it or to purchase.

Job Search Answers

Happy searching!
LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-9921953295620822712008-03-17T15:10:00.005-04:002008-03-17T15:25:33.498-04:00A different home business ideaHi there,

I ran across an interesting idea for a home based business the other day. After several emails back and forth with a very nice (and patient) woman who answered a ton of my questions, I think I am grasping the concept. Sometimes, I don't catch on too quickly:-)

MyStreet.com is an organization that rewards people for starting communities in their neighborhoods. If you become a leader of a community, you are paid for your service of starting it up. There are other ways you can continue to earn money as you serve your community.

Read all about this business idea at www.mystreet.com

Blessings,
LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-61513411474195795642008-03-14T12:31:00.003-04:002008-03-14T14:46:08.671-04:00What's your story?Hi all,

I was reading a blog by Chuck Smith, who is involved in helping others succeed in their own quilting business.

He was saying how we need to have a "story" that defines our business and that makes it stand out among the rest. What do you want people to think of when they think of your business? What will make them remember you the next time they need the services/products you offer?

He was talking about a few different well-known businesses' stories. Did you know that L.L. Bean will guarantee everything you own from them, for as long as you own the product? I didn't know that, but it will make me think of them the next time I go to buy some clothing. See how it works?

He was relating this to a quilting business, but you can follow his ideas for any business you own.
Go on over to his blog and read what he has to say about crafting your own story.

http://www.quiltingbusiness.com/tell-your-quilting-business-story/

Have a great weekend.

LaurieHome Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-58955339430877346412008-03-12T14:43:00.005-04:002008-03-12T14:52:47.715-04:00Virtual Assistant trainingHi,

I just finished listening to a recorded call in the Barefoot Summit series. It is 64 degrees here today. That is practically unheard of in New York in early March! I've got all the windows open - I love to let the fresh air in.

I am doing a 31 day blogging challenge and thought you might benefit from it too. Join me in the fun if you have a blog.

I am starting this a little behind - March 1 would have been the ideal day to start. But here goes: I'll cover the first three lessons here.

1. Do an informative "About Me" page - http://www.skelliewag.org/how-to-write-the-perfect-about-page-by-numbers-150.htm

2. Use images in your blog posts - it makes it more interesting for the reader and gives them a better feel for what you are talking about. I use istockphoto.com - the pictures are very inexpensive there.

3. Write blog posts in advance. This is so helpful for those days that you are really busy working on other things, or totally out of ideas of what to write. Write 7 days of posts in advance.
This is especially helpful if you are writing a series of posts on the same topic. Write them while your train of thought is going!

So where am I in all this? Well, I did work on my About Me page and I just bought a great picture to use in one of my posts.

Now, I need to go write the next 7 posts. Let me know if you're going to do this challenge with me. I'd love the company!

Laurie

P.S. I will still cover some other topics during March so even if you aren't a blogger, there will be something for you.Home Businesshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10869788242094054531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5821732200754145832.post-44059326622582365212008-02-29T17:01:00.004-05:002008-02-29T17:04:36.995-05:00More free information on bloggingHi,

Sorry to write this post so late in the day.
