Jesus is “everlasting Father” of time; Jesus created time and the world (Col 1:16). He is “everlasting” and has always existed. Jesus is the “ The Prince of Peace.” The only way that you will have true and lasting peace in your heart is to live for “The Prince of Peace” who desires you to know Him. Yet most people use the Holy Name of Jesus to curse with or say “Oh my G-D”. If a friend started to use your name to curse with what would it say about what they think of you? Jesus said “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement.” (Mat.12:34-36) “for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain” (Ex:20:7) BUT THERE IS STILL HOPE. The reason the “mighty God” entered into His own creation and became a baby, was because even though we rebelled against God “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way” (Isa 55:6) For God so loved YOU that He “made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in the appearance as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Phil 2:7-8) The reason Jesus went to the cross was “he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isa 55:5) Jesus willingly paid the penalty in full for ALL your sin. “Christ died for our sins... he was buried, and he rose again the third day... he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once” (1 Cor 15:3-6)

JESUS OFFERS YOU PEACE OF YOUR SOUL & THE FREE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE. The love of intellectual fighting is a real problem with Christians that engage in apologetics. In our zeal to contend for the faith once for all handed down to the saints or to sinfully enjoy exercising intellectual one-upsmanship over another, we often forget verses like these:

Do not give what is holy to dogs and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. Matthew 7:6

But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. 2 Timothy 2:23

But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. Reject a factious man after a first and second warning, knowing that such a man is perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned. Titus 3:9-11

Experience and Scripture have taught me over the last few years that you are casting your pearls before swine and wasting your time when you engage heretics. That time would be better spent ministering to your own family, engaging in some type of equipping ministry in your local church, or doing one-on-one evangelism and/or open-air preaching. There is a place for reasoning with people from the Scriptures like Paul did in the synagogues (Acts 17:17; 18:4, 19) or preaching to the heathen by starting with creation and moving to the gospel from that starting point (Acts 17:18-31). But we need to notice something; in all those instances, Paul didn't hang around and waste time wrangling with people that weren't interested. He preached, looked for who was interested, and spent time ministering to them (Acts 17:34). If there were no interested people, he moved on (Acts 13:51; 18:6). Paul carefully looked for those who would raise their heads to listen to the gospel. He tells you why he does this in 2 Timothy 2:10,

For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.
Acts 16:14 also tells you what happens when God does in His own due time when He brings His elect under gospel preaching,

A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to repond to the things spoken by Paul.
I'm not saying we don't need apologetics, we do. I'm just saying that we need to remember that apologetics can only be useful for two things: (1) building the faith of the saints, and (2) stopping the mouth of the unbeliever. That's it. Apologetics has no power to convert. It never will because God didn't ordain it to do that. Before we contend we need to be sure that we are contending for the faith and not a particular philosophical system or to fulfill your own intellectual jollies. In other words, our apologetics needs to ultimately be about preaching the gospel (Romans 1:16), for only it is the power of God unto salvation. It is through the means of the preached word that people are born again (1 Peter 1:23-25). If they don't listen, move on. Otherwise, you may find yourself doing exactly what the Holy Spirit warned you against in the aforementioned verses.

We Must Have A Present Sight Of Christ In Order To Preach Him ~Robert Murray M'Cheyne

"The faithful minister has a present sight of Christ as his righteousness. He is like John the Baptist. “Seeing Jesus coming unto him, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!” Or like Isaiah, he saw “His glory and spake of Him.” His own soul is ever watching at Gethsemane and at Golgotha. Oh, brethren, it is thus only we can ever speak with feeling, or with power, or with truth, of the unsearchable riches of Christ! We must have the taste of the manna in our mouth, “milk and honey under our tongue,” else we cannot tell of its sweetness. We must be drinking the living water from the smitten rock, or we cannot speak of its refreshing power. We must be hiding our guilty souls in the wounds of Jesus, or we cannot with joy speak of the peace and rest to be found there. This is the reason why unfaithful ministers are cold and barren, in their labours. They speak like Balaam, of a Saviour whose grace they do not feel. They speak, like Caiaphas, of the blood of Christ, without having felt its power to speak peace to the troubled heart. This is the reason why many good men have a barren ministry. They speak from a clear head knowledge, or from past experience, but not from a present grasp of the truth-not from a present sight of the Lamb of God. Hence their words fall like a shower of snow,- fair and beautiful, but cold and freezing. The Lord give us to stand in the presence of the Lord Jesus." The Queen of Sheba said to Solomon: “Happy are these Thy servants, which stand continually before Thee, and hear Thy wisdom.” So it is said of the angels, that “They do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.” Even when most engaged in the service of the saints, they feel under His all-seeing, holy, living eye. So ought faithful ministers to feel. They should feel constantly in His presence,-under His soul piercing, gentle guiding, holy, living eye. “I will guide thee with Mine eye.” “The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous.” Ah! How often we feel before man! Then all power withers, and we become weak as other men; but oh, how sweet to feel in the presence of God, as if there were no eye on us, but God’s! In prayer, how sweet to feel before Him; to kneel at His footstool, and to put our hand upon the mercy-seat, no curtain, no veil, no cloud between the soul and God! In preaching, how sweet to say like Elijah, when he stood before Ahab, “I stand before the Lord God of Israel! To stand at His feet, in His family, in His pavilion, oh, believers, it is then we get above the billows! The applause of men, the rage and contempt of men, then pass by us like the idle wind which we regard not. This is a minister like a rock in the ocean; the mountain-billows dash upon its brow, and yet it stands unshaken."~Robert Murray M'Cheyne.

Attributes of God pt 15-The Patience of God-Don't Mock Him-Kevin Williams

In this Gospel sermon: Part 15 of our series on The Attributes of God we look at:
-God's patience and long suffering towards us is not meant to be a licence to sin but to lead us to repentance.
-How we the Christians are to be patient with others.
-Don't take any chances with your soul. O come, come, my brethren, and nail your sins thereto; come, come and see his side pierced; there is a fountain open for sin, and for uncleanness: O wash, wash and be clean: come and see his head crowned with thorns, and all for you. Can you think of a panting, bleeding, dying Jesus, and not be filled with pity towards him? He underwent all this for you. Come unto him by faith; lay hold on him: there is mercy for every soul of you that will come unto him. Then do not delay; fly unto the arms of this Jesus, and you shall be made clean in his blood.

O what shall I say unto you to make you come to Jesus: I have showed you the dreadful consequence of not repenting of your sins: and if after all I have said, you are resolved to persist, your blood will be required at your own heads; but I hope better things of you, and things that accompany salvation. Let me beg of you to pray in good earnest for the grace of repentance. I may never see your faces again; but at the day of judgment I will meet you: there you will either bless God that ever you were moved to repentance; or else this sermon, though in a field, will be as a swift witness against you. Repent, repent therefore, my dear brethren, as John the Baptist, and as our blessed Redeemer himself earnestly exhorted, and turn from your evil ways, and the Lord will have mercy on you."~George Whitefield

Getting Biblical Council ~Tim Conway

Looking for a husband, wife, job? He suffered being tempted, just that He might succour them that are tempted. The high priest of old not only offered sacrifice on the altar,- his work was not done when the lamb was consumed. He was to be a father to Israel, he carried all their names graven over his heart,- he went in and prayed for them within the veil. He came out and blessed the people, saying, "The Lord bless thee and keep thee. The Lord make His face shine," etc. (num 6:24-26).

So it is with the Lord Jesus. His work was not all done on Calvary. He that died for our sins lived to pray for us,- to help in every time of need. He is still man on the right hand of God. He is still God, and therefore, by reason of His divinity, is present here this day as much as any of us. He knows your every sorrow, trial, difficulty; every half-breathed sigh He hears, and brings in notice thereof to His human heart at the right hand of God, His human heart is the same yesterday, today and forever; it pleads for you, thinks of you, plans deliverance for you.

Dear tempted brethren! go boldly to the throne of grace, to obtain mercy and find grace to help you in your time of need.

Are you bereaved of one you loved? Go and tell Jesus; spread out your sorrows at His feet. He knows them all; feels for you in them all. He is a merciful High Priest. He is faithful too, never awanting in the hour of need. He is able to succour you by His word, by His Spirit, by His providence. He gave you all the comfort you had by your friends. He can give it you without them. He has taken away the stream that you may go to the fountain.

Are you suffering in the body? Go to this High priest. He is intimately acquainted with all your diseases: He has felt that very pain. Remember how, when they brought to Him one that was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, He looked up to heaven and sighed, and said, Ephphatha! He sighed over his misery. So He sighs over you. He is able to give you deliverance, or patience to bear it, or improvement by it.

Are you sore tempted in soul --put into trying circumstances, so that you know not what to do? Look up; He is able to succour you. If He had been on earth, would you not have gone to Him-would you not have kneeled and said, Lord, help me? Does it make any difference that He is at the right hand of God? He is the same yesterday, today and forever."~Robert Murray M'Cheyne from sermon on Heb 2:16-18

All Who Follow Christ Must Suffer Persecution ~George Whitefield

"What say you? Are you resolved to live godly in Christ Jesus, notwithstanding the consequence will be, that you must suffer persecution? You are beginning to build; but have you taken our Lord's advice, to “sit down first and count the cost?” Have you well weighed with yourselves that weighty declaration, “He that loveth father or mother more than Me, is not worthy of Me;” and again, “Unless a man forsake all that he hath he cannot be my disciple?” Perhaps some of you have great possessions; will not you go away sorrowful, if Christ should require you to sell all that you have! Others of you again may be kinsmen, or some way related, or under obligations, to the high-priests, or other great personages, who may be persecuting the church of Christ: What say you? Will you, with Moses, “rather choose to suffer affliction with the people of God, than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season?”

Perhaps you may say, my friends will not oppose me. That is more than you know: in all probability your chief enemies will be those of your own household. If therefore they should oppose you, are you willing naked to follow a naked Christ? And to wander about in sheep-skins and goats-skins, in dens and caves of the earth; being afflicted, destitute, tormented, rather than not be Christ's disciples? You are now all following with zeal, as Ruth and Orpah did Naomi, and may weep under the word; but are not your tears crocodiles tears? And, when difficulties come, will you not go back form following your Lord, as Orpah departed form following Naomi? Have you really the root of grace in your hearts? Or, are you only stony-ground hearers? You receive the word with joy; but, when persecution arises because of the word, will you not be immediately offended?

Be not angry with me for putting these questions to you. I am jealous over you, but it is with a godly jealousy: for, alas! how many have put their hands to the plough, and afterwards have shamefully looked back? I only deal with you, as our Lord did with the person that said, “Lord, I will follow thee withersoever thou wilt. The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests, but the son of man, (says he) hath not where to lay his head.” What say you? Are you willing to endure hardness, and thereby approve yourselves good soldiers of Jesus Christ? You now come on foot out of the towns and villages to hear the word, and receive me as a messenger of God: but will you not by and by cry out, Away with him, away with him; it is not fit such a fellow should live upon the earth?

Perhaps some of you, like Hazael, may say, “Are we dogs, that we should do this?” But, alas! I have met with many unhappy souls, who have drawn back unto perdition, and have afterwards accounted me their enemy, for dealing faithfully with them; though once, if it were possible, they would have plucked out their own eyes, and have given them unto me. Sit down therefore, I beseech you, and seriously count the cost, and ask yourselves again and again, whether you count all things but dung and dross, and are willing to suffer the loss of all things, so that you may win Christ, and be found in him: for you may assure yourselves, the apostle hath not spoken in vain, “All that will live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution.”~George Whitefield

Scripture Points On Parenting ~Bob Jennings

1.Children are a great blessing,
Psalm 127:5 "Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate."
Psalm 128:4 "Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD."

2.Children are not always a blessing
1 Kings 1:6 "And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? God forbid brethren! Those early Christians sold their homes to help needy Christians. So what if you have to wear old clothes or get the cable TV turned off. Brethren, listen to me: are you ready to stand before the Lord on Judgement Day and say "No Lord, I did not help my brother when I saw him in need, but Lord I had the Discovery channel, Lord I had this great big 90 inch plasma HD, I had that! I didn't help that sister, but Lord look at my i-phone, I had one of those, isn't this impressive?" Brethren, that's not impressive, what's impressive is the Macedonians, that's impressive." ~Tim Conway

Listen to the full sermon:

Are The Sermons You Hear Christ Centred?

HT: Nathan W. They haven't learned that as Christians they should finish with self, deny self, take up their cross and follow Him. Leave yourself in His hands, utterly and absolutely, past, present and future. Ah yes, but why are they morbidly preoccupied with themselves? The answer is of course that they're not sufficiently occupied with Him. And that is the explanation of this condition: it is a failure to know Him and His ways as we should know them. My dear friends if we only spent more of our time looking at Him, we'd soon forget ourselves... You've come into the Christian life, very well then, stop looking at yourself and begin to enjoy Him! So in heaven, when the angels hear the voice of redeemed sinners,-brands plucked out of the fire,-standing in near the throne, they will obtain a ravishing view of the glory of God, His mercy and grace, they will fall down and worship God. They will not envy the redeemed their place; but, on the contrary, be filled with intense praise by hearing what God has done for their souls. Come into my arms, O sinners, come wash your spotted souls in my heart's blood. See here is a fountain opened for all sin and all uncleanness! See, O guilty souls, how the wrath of God is now abiding upon you: come, haste away, and hide yourselves in the clefts of my wounds; for I am wounded for your transgressions; I am dying that you may live for evermore. Behold, as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so am I here lifted up upon a tree. See how I am become a curse for you: the chastisement of your peace is upon me. I am thus scourged, thus wounded, thus crucified, that you by my stripes may be healed. O look unto me, all ye trembling sinners, even to the ends of the earth!
