Recently I have started revisiting some of these historic techniques. Look for them to be featured every now and then on my blog in a post called 'Outside the box.' You may also find some of these works on the sidebar..<br /><br />Today's 'Outside the box feature' showcases tintypes. The <a href="http://www.alternativephotography.com/process_tintype.html">classic tintype</a> also known as <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">ferrotypes</span> or wet plate <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">collodians</span> utilizes some pretty toxic chemicals. The tintypes above are <a href="http://www.alternativephotography.com/process_tintype_modern.html"><span style="font-style: italic;">modern</span> tintypes </a>meaning they were produced using a photo emulsion on blackened aluminum. Dripping, streaking and bubbling surface effects are additional characteristics that make the plates unique and one of a kind.
