'The Face Off' exhibition now on!!!

What's up people!

Last night was the mega opening for 'The Face Off'- a bubblin' pot of amazing artwork, Skinners ale, Rowes pastys and Red Bull.

Thanks to everyone who came out, the shop was absolutely packed and people were buzzing about Klingatron and Smugs show.

The guys have been working really hard over the past few weeks getting their work together, they have served up some incredible stuff and the show looks amazing.
If you didn't come down last night, make sure you do soon!-you really will kick yourself for sleeping on this one!

There is a great range of work with a wide price spectrum, there really is something for everyone.
With the attention the two are receiving and the bright futures they are carving out for themselves-the work makes for a very sound investment indeed.
More importantly, it will look bloomin' lovely on your wall and make your friends insanely jealous!

And for all of you who can't make it to the gallery, don't sweat! All the work will be available to purchase in our online shop in the next few days.

Mad thanks to both Smug and Klingatron (not forgetting Lisa and Jen!) for traveling all the way down from Glasgow to dish us up a fantastic show and to be here on the opening night, and being ace guests- Twas a blast!!!

Word up Soupsters,

Sorry I ain't been blogging it up this week-I have been on the grind all week making the gallery look right nice ready for Smug and Klingatron's exhibition.

Mad props to Poxy, Big D and Triple for all the help!

So now the gallery is looking crazy hot and tomorrow night is shaping up to be the best opening party TSG has ever thrown!!!

Smug and Klingatron are on route as I type with a van full of hella fresh artwork, hot off the press ready for all of us to peep!!!

DJ Dilla is set to hit us up with some killa beats, Red Bull have sent us a fridge load of fizz to chuck out, Skinners have slung us a keg of Betty Stoggs to get the night in full swing and Rowes bakery have crimped us up a load of cocktail pasties-its safe to say we have the refreshments on LOCK! (only while stocks last though-so get in quick!)

Oh and did I mention a free raffle to all that attend with prizes like a Lazy Oaf tee, a copy of Graffiti World, an Oktomat camera and lots of other mega hot product!!!!

Yep, tomorrow night is gonna be the ish, doors open at 6

Buenos dias TSG followers!

I have been meaning to do a post on nutty French creative company SHOBO SHOBO for ages.

Shobo shobo is the project of Medhi Hercberg, an illustrator, musician, artist and teacher of multimedia graphic design in Paris-basically one of those kids at school who's totally frickkin rad at everything!

Shoboshobo originally involved Japanese visual artists and musicians, and toured through Japan as an art bus with interactive and collaborative happenings taking effect in different places.
They also create the most super technicolour one-off clothing items ever!
The mega-monster, full color jumpers and t-shirts they produce are the stuff strange feverish dreams are made of!

Medhi's graphic works have featured in several magazines and books such as Kramers Ergot, Pictoplasma, Rojo, Nieves, Dazed & confused, Pig, Tokyon, Code, and Modart.
He collaborates with several artists such as Hendrik Hegray, Jonas Delaborde, Andy Bolus, Yu Matsuoka, Stephane Prigent, Andrea Crews and Sumi ink Club and his work has been shown in countries all over the world.

Even Swedish fashion hub, H&M has picked up on 'em and commissioned a line of 12 T-shirts to be sold at number of the retail giant's international outlets.
And if you fancy some truly individual threads hit them up for an expensive, but very worth it custom.
But yep, even if you can't hit H&M or you ain't got the cheddar for one-offs, check the site out-there is a load of crazy ace stuff to look at, it may inspire you to knock up your own monster mash sweatshirt!!!

So we have our Sixpack clothing drop coming soon-hold tight!

In the lead up to its arrival I am profiling of the dope artists and designers that contribute to the Sixpack label.
Todays post highlights the work of mega purveyors of freshness: Morning Breath.

Morning Breath Inc is a Brooklyn based creative studio focusing on visualization and illustration and design, their works break through the clutter by delivering fresh and innovative creative solutions targeted to the youth culture.

In 1996 Doug Cunningham and Jason Noto began collaborating on skateboard designs in San Fransisco, CA.
Many boards and projects later they formalised the partnership by forming Morning Breath in Brooklyn, NY in 2002.

Their diverse portfolio includes designs for clothing brands, advertising campaigns, gaming and music packaging – the latter garnering a Grammy nomination for Best Special Music Packaging in the case of AFI.
Morning Breath’s unique and vivid approach to each project is evident by their work with notable clients that include Sixpack, Stussy, Vans, Adidas, MTV, and Queens of the Stone Age amongst others.

Whatever the brief Morning Breath consistently serves up a lungful of original freshness that pushes the pace of the ever-evolving creative industry.
And they sure as hell ain't halfsteppin' as far as their Sixpack designs go, have a butchers at some of their past work and get to rubbin them hands together in anticipation!

Old Big Markie has been a bit too concerned with eating penny sweets recently instead of serving up crazy tasty-eye candy blogs.
My apologies TSG followers, I have let you down, and for that I am truly sorry. Today though I will try and make it up to you in spectacular fashion with the bountiful mega blog treat that is FecalFace

Fecal Face is a content-rich, comprehensive, multidisciplinary art and culture website supporting the art scene in San Francisco and beyond since 2000.
The photo rich site features artist interviews, studio visits, blogs by prominent artists and personalities, an hourly updated news section and coverage of current art openings. Additionally the site supports a forum board with over 2000 users, a comprehensive creative jobs database and an events calendar offering some of the more obscure attractions in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. It's helped launch the careers of many a creative, and catalyzed a community of artists working in various mediums from around the globe.

Fecal Face Dot Gallery is an extension of the website offering visitors the opportunity to experience in person the work they see showcased online. With a new installation each month, and opportunities to meet the artists, it's a way to merge what Fecal Face has been doing online since 2000 into the vibrant art scene in San Francisco.

Fecal Face is really a inspiring blog with tons of amazing work to peep from stupidly ace people based in and around SF, LA and NYC. Its updated on the regular so there is always something new to look at.

The studio visits are flippin great-I always find it real interesting to spy the environment artists work in and catch glimpses of sketches, equipment etc.
One of my recent faves is a tour of Australian (now living in LA) artist Kill Pixie's studio.

What up slicksters!

Our July exhibition is coming up real soon and we are crazy amped for it-the flyers turned up today so thought I would post up and let you know what's in store!

'The Face Off' is an exhibition of ALL NEW work from super talented, Glasgow based artists Smug and Klingatron.
The show opens on Friday the 5th of June at 6 p.m with a special extended opening party till 10 p.m and will be showing till the 28th June.
Both artists will be traveling down to be here on the night, to meet peeps and talk about their new work.

I have been looking forward to this one for a long time!!!-Its gonna be the usual mix of beers, music and merriment. We are even gonna be chucking out some free product and goodie bags to celebrate!!! flippin hell-don't say we don't treat you right nice!

Here is a little bit on each of the artists and some images of their past work to whet your appetite for what's in store....

Smug:

Smug is an Australian born, Glasgow based artist specialising in photo-realistic graffiti.
Since discovering graffiti about ten years ago Smug's work quickly grew into a perfectionist's obsession with letters and characters which since moving to the UK has developed into a more photo-realistic style that has been exhibited widely.

Smug's paintings are meticulously rendered works which draw upon an eclectic range of influences, often making uncomfortable subjects into stunning pieces on canvas and in industrial and abandoned settings which can be seen throughout Scotland and Australia...

Since 2006 Sam has worked on numerous high profile large scale works throughout Scotland, his current commissioned works being a series for Glasgow City Council in promotion of the Commonwealth Games.
This current exhibition is a return to a more photo-journalistic darker style.

Klingatron:

Glasgow born Klingatron began to teach himself how to create stencils as an art form in his final year of Art College around five years ago. It was the answer he was looking for as a young illustration student in order for him to find a way of working that gave him satisfaction he hungered for to capture detail in his art thus making him stand out with which was at the time a very basic knowledge and skill.
He initially started to create stencils due to a continuous frustration with his style of work, which he felt would not stand up against the creations of his influences at the time. Klingatron has since dedicated his attention in developing his style and technique with a blade ultimately producing very delicate and highly intricate stencils that are used only once causing each painting to be unique and completely individual.

Over time, Klingatron's stencils have become more increasingly detailed meaning that the process takes hours upon hours (sometimes over 100) cutting paper in what he describes as a process that lets him go into a state of near meditation whilst he works for long periods at a time. All the materials he needs include the sheets of paper he cuts his stencils with using a scalpel blade, and of course spray cans for the application of paint is all he needs to create a painting.

From a young age Klingatron would notice and be influenced by the graffiti along the train lines and on the top of buildings in Glasgow but never hit the streets himself.
This appreciation for Graffiti and street art has caused Klingatron to look at his environments in a fresh way that is seen in his work, as his subjects of urban environments are that which many ignore or take for granted. When looking at his paintings not only are you studying the technique and intricate detail of his work but also the viewer begins to also appreciate the subject in a way they may not have realised before.
His work has seen rapid progression and with this Klingatron has exhibited in many group show around Britain including two solo shows as well as displaying his paintings as far as Australia.

Yep-these guys are a big deal, we are amped to have them here-make sure you don't sleep on this one!

Studio Amour present: 'One Thousand and One Nights'...

What the haps cats.....

I wanted to give you all a heads up on a tasty new exhibition from Studio Amour taking place at the Emporium Gallery in Bristol.

Here's a little bit about who they are and what they do:

"Studio Amour is fabric design and print studio founded in 2007 and based in Bristol.

In an industry dominated by digital design and production we are concerned to keep alive old flourishing traditional methods and craftsmanship.

Our main focus is the production of hand printed art works and fabric with a particular interest in one off or small runs for furnishing or architectural purposes and Interior decoration.

To promote the cause of hand printing over the machine, Studio Amour has decided to hold bi-monthly exhibitions featuring the work of local and international Graffiti artists, Designers, Makers and Friends."

Their new exhibition- 'One Thousand and One Nights' features new artwork by Ponk and Amour on silk, velvet,
moleskin and other textiles, large scale fabric, one off prints from 1m x 2m and a collection of one colour A3 Prints

Along side this work will be 9 Limited edition one colour A3 Prints available for sale by well renowned artists and graffiti heroes from the likes of Nylon, Pref, Kid Acne, Elph & Solo One.

The show opens Friday 15th from 7pm and runs till the 29th May @ the Emporium Gallery- 37 Stokes Croft, Bristol BS1 3PY.

Yes! we made it baby!!!!

The Soup Gallery is one year old today-thanks to all you mega fly people who have supported TSG over the past 12 months-you have been rad.
It was and probably still is the whakkest time to open yo own shop-but we have made it through and will hopefully (with ace people like you-yep, YOU! around to show love) we'll be here for a few more years yet!!!
So much has happened over the past year-mad collabs and projects with all kinds of rockin' shops and companies-and meeting so many cool peeps. Its been a right blast.....

Cheers to everyone who has come along to the exhibitions/bought summit/popped in to say howdy etc- its real nice of thee and I do weeeeny appreciate it.
Don't get it twisted though-it's still only the beginning, we are only just getting this whole thang crack-a-lackin!!!!!

P.S:
To mark the end of the first year of soupy goodness I wanted to do some coolio prize giveaways and stuff-

Happy Freakin May Bank Holiday!!!

In a few weeks time we are gonna be stocking clothing from mega extraordinaire French label: SIXPACK a superb French graffiti and graphic design collective.

With contributions from the worlds best contemporary artists these fresh thread slingers have been bubblin' for a while now and we are crazy amped to be one of their outlets. So to give you all a taste of what's to come, I thought I would start profiling some of the artists that have been designing the brands soon to be in-store collection.

Todays featured artist is HuskMitNavn, who is one of my personal favourites from the Sixpack rosta-his characters never fail to get me smiling and reaching for my pen pot.
Here is a little bit about the man and his work-

HuskMitNavn - RememberMyName (1975)
Lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Works with paintings, drawings, graphics and newspaper cartoons.

HuskMitNavn has marked his name both in Denmark and internationally by his controversial, humorous and political street art. His characteristic figures and comments are spread all over Europe and covers a wide area from graffiti in public space, illustrations for international magazines and newspapers into established settings as galleries and building adornments.

By humorous reflections upon everyday life and politics, the art from HuskMitNavn involves society discourses. In a very personal style he comments on absurdities by stolid comments that give 'food for thought'. Subjects like nationality or integration gets a completely new meaning.

HIs website features images of his past exhibitions, his spray-painted work on walls, paste-ups, T-shirt designs and current exhibition news you can also sign up to his mailing list to stay up on the haps.
The generous so and so has even put some drawings on there that you can print out!!! Check it all out here-

What up peeps!!!

Today I thought I would give y'all a heads up on 'Hurt you Bad', a graffiti superblog carrying shiploads of eye candy and the word on up to the minute graff haps the world over.
Here's a little bit from them on what they are all about:

"Hurt You Bad was started in 2003 with the grand aim of being an online scrapbook. The intention was not to be the biggest or the best but instead to put the emphasis on quality. The updates were to be design-led and feature only graffiti we liked. After a little while a blog was added as an after-thought, it wasn’t even mentioned on the front page and the link was only visible if you looked hard enough. Fast forward a few years and the blog has now taken over the site, there are never any “Updates” and our visitor numbers are through the roof. Think of it as we surf the net so you don’t have to."

So there-add to their visitor numbers and go have a butchers...

What it do people!?

So I have been getting me doodle on this week and working on some hot new Soup Tees-which will be in production soon so hold tight! We have some mad flavour bubblin up for y'all!
I have also been having a few mega top secret 'blue sky' meetings with the Attla team about crazy tasty collabs with them cats, more that soon!

In shop news-some past season Lazy Oaf girls T's have hit the sale rail today for the bargain price of Ten Great British Pounds-so come cop summit hella cheap before they all get to going.

Finally a treat for yo ears-here is a link for Major Lazer's 'Hold the Line' track posted on world music site: Mad Decent
‘Hold The Line’ is the first lickle taste from the forthcoming Major Lazer album (Major Lazer = Diplo x Switch) which features vocals from Santigold and Lexxx. The album is set to drop on June 16 and it’s set to be BIG if tracks like ‘Zumbi’, ‘Pon Di Floor’ and ‘Hold The Line’ are anything to go by.
As well as the track being stoopid fresh the cover artwork is the dopest thing I have laid me peepers on in ages. Kapowie.

Rowe and Soup go to Newquay....

Howdy Peeps!

Yep, me and Rowe tripped over to Newquay yesterday to hit the skatepark and get our paint on.
After looking over the rest of the park we decided to hit the wall we painted before as it's the biggest and cops the most sun.....BIG mistake, my neck is about the same colour as the fill on the piece. owwwwwieeee!

And we had a few problems, like not bringing enough paint for starters and then I dropped and exploded a can of tornado red i was gonna use-so we had even less.
When paint supplies get close to the wire like that, you get hella crazy -we were both clutching cans and throwing strops (well I was!) I even hid away the empties thinking if worst came to the worst I could get enough for a cut back.

But hey-you live and learn, the fill ain't that solid-(we put it down to painting on wood!)
-but me and Rowe were pretty happy with it, either that or we were both sunstroked and delirious.
And we decided to shout our brand new crew of mad tasty slicksters: Gastronomic Tactics Initiative -a.k.a- G.T.I.
Thats right kids, we're the clique that make you go MMMMMM!!!!!

-Next week we are getting our passports ready to go over the Tamar and paint in Plymouth....Geez, talk about jetsettin'!

Art in the city....

Howdy!

Art in the City finished on Saturday with the auctioning all the 'Big Art' canvasses.
Both Haacht's piece and the canvas painted by Ben Aslett, Jack Teagle and Donya Todd both sold for a fair old whak.
It was a good week with plenty going on-The Soup Gallery stall was getting mad props-it seems Truro is really feeling the work and the artists we are representing-which is rad. Especially Rowe and Haacht, them kids are getting crazy interest!
So yeah me, Rowe, Triple, Haacht and the Attla family hit the town Saturday night to celebrate the end of a rocking week-and well things got slightly out of hand.
Apologies to all involved for my super inebriated state-I put it down to relief that the week was done and the fact I drink like a parched fish and happen to be a ridiculous light-weight.
Anyway thanks to Big D for propping me up outside BK and Rowe for not letting me run off.
It's Rowes birthday this Saturday-so no doubt some more debauchery to be had.

We still have a few Haacht pieces in the shop along with some of Rowe's work, make sure you cop a look before its gone!
And 'One In One Out is on until the end of May so make sure you pop down and have a butchers.
Then in June we have a very special treat for you-more on that soon......

'One In One Out' Opening party....

Whats up!

So last night was the opening party for 'One In, One Out'-cheers to everyone who made it out was great to see you all-a special shout to Level's 'Eggs Benedict' who came over on his birthday-thats some dedication right thurrrrr!
We had a little change of heart late yesterday as far as the whole idea of the show went.....we were going to remove the canvasses that we had painted on the wall and replace them with framed works-but the canvasses looked so good on the wall where they were originally painted and the frames fitted so well on the stairs that we decided to leave it like that.
So yeah a fairly big switch of thinking, but the show looks better for it-don't let anyone say that we are afraid to mix it up!!!

We are going to be producing a zine to go along with the show which will be available to buy-will keep you posted.
Triple has got loads of swish photos of the finished exhibition-as soon as he sends them my way I will post them up.

Right-o, I am off to judge the 'MyTruro' Art competition and then i'm a get my David Dickinson on and go to the 'Big Art' Auction where Haacht and Ben Aslett/Jack Teagle/Donya Todd have pieces going under the hammer.

Errr what else-oh-them crazy fizzers at Attla are having a mega kicks deal...TODAY ONLY-buy any footwear from them and get a hella dope Attla bobble hat fo GRATIS! thats right FREE, NADA to pay!!!!
Hot foot it down there on the asap-sort out you head and heel game, pop next door to yo favourite contemporary art gallery to check out 'One In One Out', then walk them pimped out tootsies down to Lemon Quay plaza and have a look at whats going on down at the Truro Arts Fair.

'One In One Out' Live Paint Day 3:

Whoa!!!

Things have been super freakin busy over here at TSG, yesterday was the third day of live paint lunacy with yo friendly neighbourhood graffer Soup and Plymouthian slickster Haacht gettin up in the gallery.

The kid Rowe dropped in to make some final adjustments to his piece, and things are finally taking shape-cheers to everyone who dropped in to say hello over the past few days-and big ups to Haacht for sorting me out with a much needed whopper from BK at around 10 p.m last night.
Today Ben Aslett, Jack Teagle, Donya Todd and Haacht are taking part in the Big Art event where they will be painting 5ft x 4ft canvasses around the city which will then be auctioned off on Saturday at 4 p.m at the Lemon Quay Marquee.

I will hopefully get some snaps of whats going down posted up later today.
In the meantime here is some sneak peaks of yesterdays action-

Halo meine freunden!

Yesterday was the first day of live painting for 'One In One Out' and things got off to a flippin rad start....
Up in the gallery we had Max Naylor, Yafle and ROWE painting like crazy painting machines-heres a few sneaky pics of what they got up to.
We had a fair few trekkin upstairs to have a butchers at the work in progress.
We also have Haacht down at the marquee at Lemon Quay with a stand showing some of his recent work.
Today we have Mr. Plob, Miss Patten, Ben Aslett, Jack Teagle and Donya Todd all getting their paint on.
So yeah-let the pics whet yo appetite-and remember the finished project will be opening on Friday 17th April at 6 p.m!!!!

What Up!

You may remember illustrator Jess Douglas from the 'Poop in Soup' show-
She hit me up with an email the other day and a link to some of her new work-and POW! that girl has been hella busy!
Here is a little bit on Jess and what she has been up to recently. Expect to see her at The Soup Gallery for a solo show soon!!!

Jess Douglas:
I currently live in Plymouth, but grew up on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza, and the sunny seaside of Dorset.
From grass to grey my journey has brought me to Plymouth city where I found my work rebelling against my country
upbringing and reflecting a growing interest in the grunge and grime of the urban environment.
Everything I discover around me has potential... urban detritus, peeling paint and filthy concrete structures.
I find the ugly and mundane to be beautiful, its character and stories inspiring.

Just got back from New York. Its been one of my dreams to go there, but it wasn't all the big flashing billboards and lights and the nightlife or shops or tall shiny buildings that attracted me.
I wanted to experience the other side of New York. The backstreets, the graff spots, the alleyways and dark dingy diners. I wanted to get to know the more dirty, grungy, underlying character of NYC. I had heard from a mate about this place called Coney Island, not far from Manhattan, on the coastal edge of Brooklyn.
He told me there was an old theme park there called 'Astroland', that had seen better days, and there was rumours it was to be shut down and demolished.
We took the F train from West 22nd street subway down to Stillwell Avenue, The journey took us under the river and popped up in the suburbs of brooklyn. The line was elevated and ran through the graffiti covered rooftops, a massive graveyard, and passes the large "KENTILE FLOORS" scaffold billboard, with the Manhattan skyline in the distance. the first glimpse of coney was the large rusty red structure of the iconic parachute jump.
Coney Island was so much better than i had ever expected. all the old abandoned rides, painted garish colours, now faded and the paint peeling off. Loads of hand written signs and the rickety old "cyclone rollercoaster, and "wonder-wheel", all surrounded by barber wire fencing and patrolled by guard dogs.

'One In One Out' Exhibition....

Hola!

Its Truro's 'Art in the City' festival next week and there is truckloads of ish going down....

There is a three day art fair in a marquee on Lemon Quay from 14-16th, where local galleries and artists will be displaying their work.
On the Friday 17th April the 'Big Art' event takes place with artists painting large 5ft square canvasses at various locations around the city-the finished works will then be auctioned inside the Lemon St marquee on Saturday 18th at 4 p.m-we have Haacht, Jack Teagle and Ben Aslett representing The Soup Gallery, don't know where they will be painting as yet-but will keep you posted!
There is a sculpture being created by a University College Falmouth student on the Friday in The Hall for Cornwall foyer and the 'My ArtTruro' painting competition will be displayed in the marquee on the Saturday and judged, among others, by yours truly!!!

So, yep, heaps to see and do-Pop into the shop to pick up a free guide to the weeks events.

'One In, One Out' Exhibition:

For our part in the 'Art in the City' week, we have pulled together some of the raddest artists to grace the Soup gallery walls over the last 11 months to produce a mega mural in our upstairs gallery.....

There will be different artists in each day of the week getting their scrawl on.
On the bill we've got Mr. PLOB, Miss Patten, Yafle, Max Naylor, ROWE, Jack Teagle, Ben Aslett, Haacht and yo friendly neighbourhood graffer-SOUP.

We have fixed canvasses to the wall, which when painted will be removed and displayed on the stairwell and then replaced by a framed A4 drawing from the artist, hence the title-'One In, One Out'.

It's gonna be a banger of a show-so pop in and peep the live haps from Monday 13th.
We will be having an opening party on the Friday night (17th) from 6 - 8.30 p.m, with drinks and DJ DILLA providing the beats-as usual, everyone is welcome!!!
I'll be posting up like crazy through the week-so check the site to stay up on events!

What up!

Hope y'all are radical.
I am hella amped up for Easter (if you are reading this Hatchy I would like loads of Reeces peanut butter pieces/cups/nutrageous bars and star bars-cheers) If you just read that and are asking "What in the fizz are Reeces peanut butter pieces/cups/nutrageous?"
-Geezus wept!!!! You ain't lived-get over to Tesco's and take your tastebuds on a tour of Ecstasyville asap!

Anyways I digress.......The other week I painted the changing room to make it all crazy ace and ish, and have I finally got it all clear and put up the two Kev Grey prints I bought to make the place look even more dapper, so I thought I would share some pics with you all.
I painted a load of clouds all round the walls-so it kinda looks like you are in the eye of the storm.
To celebrate the opening of the hottest changing room this cities ever seen I have stuffed a load more Ts on the sale rail-everything on there is a tenner or less!!!
So come down and try on some fresh threads in our pimp daddy changing room and cop a bargain or two!!!
