My wife and I toured the town, found several interesting art galleries, found the Art Museum that was very empty and seemed to be going through some changes. We also attended an art show and sale at the El Cid Clubhouse. There were about 20 artists from the US, Mexico and Canada. The show had a wide range of styles and subject matter. It is a twice a year event and seems to be growing. Mazatlan seems ripe for a growing art scene that is currently just finding its footing.

doarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07023294440426676547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5783312853202046205.post-25727020440528886292008-01-24T15:58:00.000-08:002008-01-24T16:07:51.281-08:00Pleine Aire PaintingA week ago I stopped by the Lawrence Gallery in Sheridan to see a long lost friends' show of Pleine Aire Paintings. Dee Boyles lived in Portland many years ago and mostly did watercolors back then. He has now progessed to be a full-time professional oil painter. If you get a chance to see his show it is well worth the effort. We discussed his favorite paints, he uses some Gamblin, but really prefers M Graham Oils for out-door painting. He says they dry slower on his palette. I thought his painting of the grain elevator in Carlton, called Red Jeep, was especially wonderful.

doarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07023294440426676547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5783312853202046205.post-83648164126645422862008-01-14T15:54:00.000-08:002008-01-14T16:03:39.642-08:00Montana GoldFor those of you who missed it. In October, Art Media brought in Montana Gold Spray Paints. 90 beautiful colors with 6 different spray nozzle choices. Through a stroke of luck we hooked up with Chris Haberman, local artist and man-about-town, who helped put together a day of spray painting by 5 local artists, Mark Hunter Armstrong, Ashley Montague, John Wray, Chris Haberman and Charlie Alan Kraft, joined by local Dj’s (Atom13 and Prophet Noize . Thanks to Chris the day went of without a hitch. The local downtown business community was very nervous about us promoting spray paint in this graffiti world, but we handled it all well and nothing bad happened. Here is some video of the event.

doarthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07023294440426676547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5783312853202046205.post-50923018557917200392008-01-02T14:11:00.000-08:002008-01-02T14:15:36.805-08:00NEW Art Media BlogArt Media is now open online for questions and comments about art supplies and custom framing.
