Memorial Day service this Sunday!

Since this Sunday is part of the Memorial Day weekend, we're going to do something a little different than usual. We'll still meet at 10:30 am and have a short service, and then we'll spend time putting together some packages to send to Afghanistan to the children the military interacts with there. Chris, our fellow AWC member who is currently serving there, has suggested this as something tangible we can do to help. He has told us they could use clothes, both new or used (but washed, please), for the children there, as well as coloring books, crayons, stickers, and small items like that to give the children. If you could bring any of these items, that would be great!

Around noon, we'll also be grilling hamburgers & hot dogs so we can have lunch together! The church will provide the meat, buns, condiments, and drinks, and you are welcome to bring side dishes, fruit/veggies, or desserts.

We know that many people will be out-of-town for the holiday weekend, but those of us who can make it there plan to have a good time together, so join us if you can!

Easter week schedule!

Easter's almost here! This is what will be happening at AWC this year:

Tuesday, April 7th - 6:30 pm - Easter communion at the church (no dinner or ACTS night this night)

Friday, April 10th - 12 noon - Prayer at the church (this is a weekly event)

Sunday, April 12th - 10:30 am - Easter celebration service!

A brunch will be served following the service, and there will be an Easter egg hunt for the kids after the brunch (well, at least after the kids have eaten!)

We look forward to celebrating our risen Savior with you this year!

No ACTS at the church this Tuesday!

Parents' Night Off!

It’s Parents’ Night Off at Anchorage Wesleyan Church!

What is it?
A night off for parents! You can go out for dinner, catch a movie, go grocery shopping, clean your house, take a nap…the list is endless!

When is it?
Friday, March 20th, from 5:30 pm – 9:15 pm. You can drop off your children at any point during that time, we simply ask that you have them picked up by 9:15 pm!

What should I bring?
We will have animal crackers, goldfish, and some type of fruit for snacks. Please make sure they have eaten dinner before they come. Please come prepared with any special instructions, contact numbers, sippy cups if necessary, and anything else you think would make your child more comfortable.

What will the kids do?
We have toys, coloring, crafts, and games! We will do our best to ensure that they have a good time!

Haircutting day

Hey everyone...and especially those with scraggly hair (just kidding!)...
Next Saturday, February 28th, at 2 pm at the church building, Lynn Goldade will be giving some basic haircutting lessons for anyone interested! This is a great opportunity for anyone who feels brave and also wants to learn how to save some money on haircuts...especially those basic cuts and trims! We already have some volunteers who are allowing Lynn to demonstrate with their hair, so if you just want to come watch and decide if it's something you're up for, feel free to stop by!

Beth Moore Bible Study for the ladies starting soon!

Starting on Monday, January 26th, we'll be going through Beth Moore's "Jesus the One and Only" Bible Study. We'll meet at Heidi's house from 6:30 - 8:30 pm, and the study will last for 11 weeks. If you want to take part, please email akwesleyan@cs.com or call Heidi at 248-9878. We will be ordering the workbooks so that we can have them here for the first study. If you can't make it each week, don't let that keep you from joining, because the workbook will keep you filled in on what you miss! I'd love to see you all there! Christmas Eve Service (and No ACTS this week)

This Wednesday night from 5:00 - 5:45 pm we'll be having a Christmas Eve service at the church. The service is for the whole family (no childcare provided) and will be a great way to start your evening's celebration. We'd love to see everyone there!

Girls' Christmas Prep & Party night!

For the ladies...this coming Monday night, the 22nd, at 6:30 pm, we'll be having a little gathering at Heidi's house so we can all try to finish our Christmas projects, like gift-wrapping and Christmas cards (for those of you who don't get these things done way ahead of schedule). If you're more prepared than the rest of us, you're welcome to just come and enjoy some visiting, Christmas music, hot cocoa or tea, and some holiday treats! Hey everyone!
Don't forget the change in schedule this Sunday, December 21st! We will NOT be having our Sunday morning service at 10:30 am -- instead, we will be having a Christmas celebration starting at 4:30 pm. The evening will include dinner (call Nathan at 748-5938 to find out what covered dish you could bring to share), games, Christmas carols, activities for the kids, Texas Hold 'em, a gift exchange, and much more! If you'd like to participate in the gift exchange game, the price limit is $15 and this exchange will involve "real gifts", not white elephant type gifts.

Thanksgiving Dinner - Tuesday the 25th!

This next Tuesday, November 25th, at 6:30 pm, we'll be feasting on a Thanksgiving Dinner together at the church...everyone is welcome and bring your friends too! We're all pitching in on bringing the dinner, so if you haven't spoken with Nathan yet about what to bring and you would like to help out, please talk to him on Sunday. If you want to come but aren't able to help with food, that's no problem -- we'll have plenty so come on by! It will be a great night!

Girls' Night Out!

This Saturday, the 22nd, we'll be having a Girls' Night Out at the church from 4:00 until around 7:00. Lynn has graciously agreed to teach anyone interested the basics of how to crochet, so if you're up for learning something new, or doing working on something you're making (if you already know how), come and join us! If you'd like to work on something entirely different or just hang out with the ladies and visit, that is perfectly fine too! We just like being together! Quilting Class this Friday!

Ladies,

Lynn will be teaching anyone interested the basics of quilting this Friday night at 6:30 pm at the church. If you don't want to try quilting, but want to hang out with the girls, just come and bring any other project you might want to work on (or just bring yourself!). We always have a great time together!

To the ladies...we'll be having a Girls Night at the church this Friday night, October 10th, at 6:30 pm. We're getting together to say goodbye to Angelin before she moves away, as well as just have fun with each other! Feel free to bring any projects you might want to work on....maybe scrapbooking, photo albums, sewing/quilting/knitting, Christmas cards (in case anyone is really early!), etc. We'll just have fun talking and snacking -- feel free to bring your favorite snack food to share, and if we're still hungry, we'll order pizza! Just wanted to make everyone aware of this upcoming event with more details to come! We are having a family night at the church on Friday night, October 31st from 6 - 9 pm. You can bring your kids in costumes, if desired, to play games, hang out, eat treats, get faces painted, and more! We are looking for people to run some games/booths, and we're open to ideas if you have something in mind. We are also looking for people to help with the food/snacks. In an effort to keep new & fresh posts on this blog, I thought I should post something tonight, but since I didn't know the details for this next Tuesday's ACTS "Celebration" night, I felt I had nothing to offer. Then I remembered how those of us at our ACTS night this past Tuesday got excited about "fellowshipping" with each other, and thought, why not send out a reminder to each of us to get going?!? (I know our intentions -- myself included -- can fade quickly) If you recall, many of us actually were excited and were offering ideas about how we could grow closer together and help one another, and the thing to do now would be to carry out our suggestions!

I know I (Heidi) am typically not the one to be throwing out challenges, but I thought I should give it a try! I feel blessed to be surrounded by so many good friends (most of whom I've met through AWC) who are happy to help me or even just hang out with me. For instance, Angie came over last week with no notice when I needed to make an unexpected trip to London's school for about 10 minutes and I had three other little ones at my house, who were 66% napping (okay, that's a weird way to say 2 out of 3!). I knew it wasn't going to go well to get 2 kids out of bed and load up 3 in the car, unload them after the 4 minute drive, take them into the school for 5 minutes, load them all back up, and then try to put them back to sleep when I got home. (Yes, some people could do it by I'm not that super-mom) So anyways, I called Angie and she came right over. This was a huge help to me and it's one of the blessings of being part of "The Fellowship" as Levi is calling it I think. I know there are many others of you who I could have called and would have helped, and for that I am thankful. So getting back to my challenge (I'm a huge rambler), I would challenge you each to think of or search for something you can do with or do for someone else (whether in our church body or someone God has laid on your heart). It doesn't even have to be an act of service...it could be as easy as going out for lunch or to the zoo or the mall or a movie...just being together and checking up on how someone else is doing. We so easily get caught up in our own lives that we don't always think to ask others about their joys or their struggles. Anyways, I've went on long enough now and will leave you to your own creativity...have fun! (and if you have any great ideas, feel free to post a comment here and others can read it)
