Horizontal tabs take up less screen space and work best for me. Make screenshots smaller, and display 4-6 of them. List the rest. The objective is to achieve optimum ease of use (quickly recognizable icons vs reduced scrolling).

As long as its optional, great. But the use of visual icons is the whole reason why I use this site, and the less text the better in my opinion. Totally agree with the comments above about caching shots and perhaps reducing size slightly. The worst part of this great site is waiting around for the same images to refresh yet again.

What about smaller icons. Another idea - allow creation of sub-folders under the tabs. So under my "travel" tab, I could create sub folders for airlines, rental cars, florida homes, motels in . . . I think you get the idea. Even sub-folders in the sub-folders might be useful to file those "rarely used" obscure sites. Making them easier to find in the future.

My thumbnails havent updated in a long time, so why not make it so they just stay cached and don't have to load every time?

I'm sure much thought went into the new design therefore, making it more functional.

What I feel would help, would be the decrease in size of the current snapshots which need not be as large as they are.

This possibly could speed things up too. In addition, to having eigth+ snapshots displayable opposed to only six within the new layout.

It looks like a nice layout.
I think all of it should be optional for sure.

You should be able to choose whether or not you want tabs or the sidebar; you should be able to choose whether or not anything after the first six are text only or not.

An issue with the text links: On a widescreen computer (at least with mine) my browser displays four columns across, not three like your picture. Some people might want 6 to have the thumbnails, some might want 8.
