I know I don't update this blog often enough but somehow there just isn't time to do all the things I want to do. So this blog is pretty much only updated whenever there is something really "BIG" coming up, especially so if it's internet marketing related.

Well, the "BIG" news this time is that Asia Internet Congress is coming to town for the very first time. After being successfully held in Singapore for the past 2 years, Fabian has decided to bring the same talents across the causeway for the benefit of the internet marketing community in Malaysia. After all, Fabian himself is also a very well-respected internet marketing expert in Malaysia.

New Tool From Google - Search-Based Keyword Tool

Google has just released another keyword research tool to aid internet marketers. It's called the Search-Based Keyword Tool. Do not think that this will replace Keyword Tool in AdWords. Both still have their uniqueness. This tool helps you generate keyword and landing page ideas which are highly relevant and specific to your website. In the process, it will also help you identify additional advertising opportunities that are not currently in your AdWords campaigns. It even goes one step further by customizing the keywords and other related data (for example keyword competition, suggested bid and much more) based on your language and / or country settings.

The tool will identify additional keywords related to your website by comparing the content in your website with actual search data in the Google database. The keywords are organized by category and subcategories. The data is updated every few weeks.

This is going to be interesting as you now have another way to generate keywords in order to reach your targetted audience. After all, the keywords that are generated from this tool is based on actual search terms that searchers type into the Google search box. Talk about effective marketing!

Global Internet Seminar - Tom Hua

It's been 2 years since Tom Hua came to Malaysia and it was a joy to hear that he's coming back this year for GIS. Am now listening to him on stage at Day 3 of GIS. It is still inspiring to hear him on stage even though I've heard him speak before.

If you have heard Tom speak on stage, you would have heard his life story and it really is one of the most inspiring stories I've heard. Latest Amazon Associate Update

Alert! Alert!

Amazon just made a major announcement today. The gist of it is that direct linking to Amazon website via paid search will no longer qualify for referral fees with effect from May 1, 2009. So if you're running ads on Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and MSN AdCenter and linking it directly to Amazon using your associate link, Amazon will no longer pay commissions on these referrals.

So what does this mean to us? People like me who are lazy internet marketers. Well, the main thing is, we can no longer use the direct linking method. A redirect is also not allowed.

What do we do then? Simple answer will be to use a landing page and in that landing page insert your associate link to Amazon. Whether it's the product page or any other page relevant to the content of your landing page.

I suppose another way of doing this is to use a blog as a review site. In your review posts, you can insert your associate link to the product page in Amazon of the product which you are reviewing.

There's still another 3 weeks left with which we can all still apply the direct linking method so make the most out of it. Go all out. As long as the item is added to the shopping cart before May 1, you'll still be entitled to your referral commission. Just remember to pause all your campaigns come midnight on May 1.

GIS - Day 1

Just finished Day 1 of GIS in KL and boy was it a great learning experience for me. This time it's a little different as there were only 2 speakers for the day; 2 Marks.

I did manage to catch a photo with Mark Vurnum and his brother, Gary. The Renegade Lead Generators. It's very interesting when you hear speakers put things into perspective for you in plain simple English and not technical jargon. I'm not a technical person myself although I do enjoy exploring once in a while when I'm in the mood.

And then, after lunch, it was Mark Joyner in da house. The Godfather of Internet Marketing. Everyone is very fortunate to have had someone like Mark sharing his experiences and imparting very valuable knowledge. We even had a full 90 minutes of Q&A and everyone really enjoyed themselves picking Mark's brains. This is one of the best Q&A sessions I have attended in a long time.

Well, I'm off to meet up with a long time friend. See you all tomorrow at Day 2 of GIS.

Great Internet Marketing Minds

Again, I have to apologise for the irregular updates here. Maybe coz I haven't much to say about what's been happening in my daily life. And just when I thought life's pretty bland, it's seminar season again. That time of the year where internet marketing seminars abound.

Just over the last weekend was The SMART Seminar organised by Adam Khoo Learning Technologies held at The Boulevard Hotel. They had a very impressive lineup of speakers including some very good friends of mine like Donna Fox, Ewen Chia and Simon Leung. And I had a chance to meet up other internet marketers whom I've never had a chance to meet, each with their own area of expertise.

Everyone had such a great time catching up and meeting new people. It was just such a great experience for me (even though attending seminars is something I've been doing for quite a while). Meeting with people with the same interests and yet still be able to learn something new is always a wonderful adventure for me.

How time flies....

It's the 2nd day of Asia Internet Congress and it's just been an amazing experience. I've met a lot of great people here and learning a lot from the panel of speakers we have here. Our only female speaker, Donna Fox, just finished her presentation and she gave so much valuable information. There's just so much to learn from her.

I've had the privilege to get to know her on a more personal level and she's such an amazing person. She loves spicy food and she can't seem to get enough of it here.

Her presentation was just amazing. So full of valuable information. Very insightful especially when it came to how much women were influencing buying decisions in today's world. Talk about girl power!

Asia Internet Congress Speaker - Sean Roach

It's been almost a week since I last posted here. Had been busy catching up with work and was feeling a bit under the weather. Anyway, I had the opportunity to meet Sean Roach on the last day of WIS 2007 and boy is he a brilliant speaker or what. He is so captivating and very engaging with the audience. At some point, he was even handing out US Dollars to anyone who was willing to get off their "duff" and make some money!

Sean spoke about a very interesting concept of his called Web 3.0. It is so new that even the other speakers were eager to hear what Sean had to say about it.
