This picture was right before the Beautiful Struggle dropped (Don't laugh at the throwback pic). He came thru the radio station I was working for at the time 102 Jamz in Greensboro, NC and we went to a restaurant and listened to the entire album. I was in awe... til this day one of my favorite projects by him. But it wasn't even about the music. He has this amazing aura that you hang on his every word. He's overwhelmingly intelligent and opened my eyes to so much. Told me he graduated from NYU and majored in Acting. Hopefully we'll be able to see that side of him soon since rappers are getting bigger and better roles in Hollywood. But I'm glad that others will get to hear his story, because its very inspirational. Here is a clip of the documentary in the works.

Chaz, you may remember him as Jada Pinkett's little brother that was killed in "Set it Off," or maybe you saw him play Harpo in the Broadway version of the Color Purple. This is where I first noticed what a nice tone he has to his voice, and glad that he's pursuing a music career. Here is his video for "By your side"

Avant working on 5th studio album

I love Avant. His first album... hands down one of my favorite R&B albums ever. Track after track. I think there are only 2 songs I actually skip when I listen to that album. My favorite tracks from that album besides the singles Separated and My first love are:

I loved this record from the first time I heard it. This video is a little scary though. Something about cutting your heart out, putting it on a plate and giving it to someone just doesn't sit well with me. Then the heart grows these huge lips, reminded me of something out of Little Shop of Horrors. Anyway, I love their creativity, and the dynamic is so real... but I kinda liked the simplicity of Questlove's unofficial version. Either way here goes:

I have been in love with this song since I first heard the one minute snippet on her album sampler. A brutha has never made Eb this mad, but I can feel her on the part when she said "Your lucky this is all I did." Remember... fellas... I know your in love with your vehicles and all but remember Lorena Bobbit. Yeah... I thought you would feel better about the record. Hands down my favorite record right now. Avant Yes
I love the tone of his voice. His first album is a classic if you don't have it. Nothing really that special about this track but it makes me feel sexy just like J. Holiday's Bed did when it first came out so anything that can make the goofy person that I am feel sexy gets cool points in my book.

Brandy Fall
Everyone has been bumping that Brandy List record heavy... but I think Fall is the one. Classic Brandy Ballad... she sounds amazing and reminds me a little bit of Almost Doesn't Count. I love it.

Rihanna Take A Bow Acoustic
For some reason I can't take this sound out of rotation. So glad no one has taken it upon themselves to remix this... I am a fan of live instruments so this version is cool with me too.

Chris Brown Who's girl is that
I thought he was taking the grown and sexy route and not turning back but I guess I was wrong... After Take you Down, I thought all his music was going to cater to cougars...lol, but this track shows that he is still just a kid and make music for the teenage girls that sell out his shows. Either way, I still like the record, even though it sounds like something that was left off his first album. He also has this really nice ballad that I am feeling too. Diagnosed with Love.

Mario I choose you
Smooth groove at its finest, but the track has a mid tempo pace that with have you 2-stepping more so than slow dancing.

Tank How Can I live
Classic Tank ballad. Crazy how he can tell you off in a song, break up with you, tell you he hates you, or like this record tell you how much he wants you back and no matter what the topic it still sounds like the sexiest thing ever.

I remember when I first heard her on the hook for the Common 2008 version of the Light (It's love). I love Common, but it was her on that hook that kept that record in heavy rotation in my ipod for a while. You know how listen to a track makes you pull something else out of the crates that you haven't listened to in a while. Well that's how Co-star made me feel. So I had to pull out the mixtape she released late last year. I hate R&B mixtapes, just don't feel its necessary for a deejay to be yelling all over an R&B track but there are a couple gems in there. Definitely doesn't get her due shine in an industry that is oversaturated with artists that really can't sing and are more noted for how much skin they show or ass they shake... so she often times get lost in the shuffle. But hands down has one of the best voices of our generation. BET did a special on her last week and of course I missed it because I dont watch too much of anything on BET... but with the wonderful powers of the internet... I was able to watch the entire special online. Enjoy!

So anyone that knows me or reads my sports blog (www.sportz-n-albumcutz.blogspot.com) knows that I am a die hard Cowboys fan. According to Jen the Pen, my star safety, Roy Williams was messing with Rocsi from 106 & Park. I have no idea why... and even bought her a Range Rover. After hearing from friends that she has been around the block quite a few times with athletes and musicians in the industry he decided to take the truck back. Check out this video to see how Jen the Pen says it all went down.

Just glad Roy Williams came to his senses. The season is about to start and its bad enough we got trifling Jessica Simpson causing a ruckus on the offense, we damn sure don't need Rocsi causing a ruckus on the defense.
