First of all, my theory that everything is happening a month late this year is really proving itself. It is December and we still are seeing Big Big Marlin being caught. We had a Blue that was in the 300-400lb range this week and a local boat caught a whopper over 800lbs the other day. We are seeing more and more Marlin every day, and as soon as the candy (mackeral) arrive the Striped Marlin frenzy will be back on. Those of you that heard about, or got the chance to fish Cabo last year in November and December will have your shot again this year. I have a feeling it is going to be late December, January and Febuary though. We are just now seeing the water temps cool down and bit, and this could be a great indicator of the fantastic Billfishing to come.

Ed Dodds and his crew from Delaware were down for a few days of fun and relaxation, escaping the winter of the northeast and spent two days with us on the water. Day 1 the guys fished with Kilito and Cesar aboard the RedBeam and had a blast. They got the Marlin to bite and were able to catch and release 3 nice Stripers. The crew also put them on the Dorado, of which they also got 3. Day 2 the guys fished with Ramon and Manuel aboard El Nuevo RedRum and while they didn't have the same success as day 1, but they did land a few Mahi's.

Hugh and Shara-Lynne from Lloydminster, Alberta Canada fished aboard El Nuevo on Sunday and had a heck of a day. We are really getting in to a great time of year with the mixed bag that is out there right now. 3-4 species in a day is not uncommon right now and that is a ton of fun for anglers. Shara and Hugh witnessed this first hand with a 9ft Striped Marlin release, a boated Wahoo that went close to 60lbs and 3 Dorado. Killer day guys, we are stoked for you.

Robert and Kindra Ross from Framingham, Massachusetts are down in Cabo for a week and are spending 3 days on the water with us. Robert has been getting a workout on the water, each day coming back and claiming that his arms were burning. I imagine they are, many people forget about all the muscles you use when fighting a Marlin and also forget that they haven't used those muscles in a while. Robert has caught and released 4 Marlin over the first two days and a bunch of Dorado as well. Maybe some Tuna or Wahoo on day 3 guys?

Jeff and Patti Kaser enjoyed their first of two days on the water yesterday with Captain Javier aboard Rum Runnin. After catching and releasing a Marlin, Javier was able to find the Dorado for Jeff and Patti as well. The Kaser's will be back on the 7th for their second day and may find that things look a little different on Rum Runnin. This morning we pulled her out of the water to apply a fresh coat of bottom paint and touch up a few spots where Marlin bills had done a number on the gelcoat. You have to remember, these boats take a beating down here, fishing as hard as we do, as many days a year as we do. That being said, we always do our best to keep everything in as best shape as possible.

-Ryan

Weekend Fish

Jay, Jordan, William, Christopher and Pat from Lincoln, Nebraska fished with Captain Javier. While we didn't hook up any marlins, it wasn't for the lack of trying by the crew. We did have a wonderful day on the water, and we caught several large mahi mahis. On the way bck to the dock with the clock running down, the captain charged over to the beach and hooked up two rooster fish, the first ones that I've ever seen. Best of all, you managed to find me some great fishing companions to share the expenses and the experience of a terrific day on the water off Cabo San Lucas.

Feliz Thanksgiving!!!

HAPPY Thanksgiving, especially to all of our faithful readers checking in on our report even today!

Keith and his kids Alexandria, Evan and Molly went out for the second time this week on our 33’ El Nuevo with Captain Alex and Mate Manuel. They caught at least 10 Dorado weighing between twenty five and thirty pounds and caught and released a hundred and forty pound Striped Marlin. They had just passed the lighthouse nearing the pacific when they landed a major quadruple hook-up. They reeled so many in that they lost count! They fished Golden Gate on the Pacific side, two to three miles from shore.

Joe and kids went out on our 28’ partner boat with Captain Salvador. They came in on the Holland America and spent a few hours fishing and catching Marlin. They caught two Striped Marlin weighing around a hundred and forty pounds and released one of them.

Brooks, Kase and Jill from Montgomery, Texas went out on our 32’ RumRunnin with Captain Javier. They fished a half day out by point 95 on the sea of Cortez and caught and released a hundred pound Sailfish.

Michael, Carl and Chas went out on our 32’ RedBeam and caught and released 2 Striped Marlin with Captain Cesar.

Robert and friends went out on our 28’ ReelRum with Captain Omar and Mate Americo. Most of the guys are still heading up the Pacific, Cesar however fished the 95 today and said things looked excellent out there. I guess the proof is in the pudding, lets see how he did.

Cesar and Kilito fished with Scott Fulton and his boy Trey, as well as Scott's parents Charlie and Zara. Special shout out to Charlie and Zara who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. As previously mentioned, Cesar headed to the 95 where he quickly got on the Dorado, hooking up 6 and catching and releasing a nice Sailfish. Not sure it is enough to pull the rest of the guys from the Pacific, but it gives everyone something to think about.

Geoff and Emily Wyonzek finished up today with their second day on the water and today they headed out in search of Tuna. Omar and Americo were all for heading out in search of Tuna and after getting about 20 miles off Cabo towards the Jaime Bank, they found the birds and the Porpoise working. Didn't take long after that, and they finished the day with 7 Yellowfina and a 50lb Sailfish.

Jeremy and Jung Yun, Will and Jung O'Donnell, Matt Hunter and Jeremy Blackburn were our guests aboard El Nuevo RedRum today and they had a great day on the water. Alex and Manuel had a great day on the water and had their clients on the fish all day long. They caught and released 3 Striped Marlin and also catching 3 Dorado, while missing a few others.

John and Nila Ventress, Ron, Ryan and Julia Bruns fished with Ziggy today and had a good day on the water. They were impressed with how hard the crew worked all day, and while they didn't get the Marlin they were looking for today, they did hook up with 3 Dorado.

Happy Turkey Day to all our friends and family from the United States! Hopefully you all have a little Dorado or Tuna in the fridge you can thaw out and enjoy tomorrow.

-Ryan

Tuesday Report...

Keith Carpenter and his crew joined Alex and Manuel aboard El Nuevo RedRum, our 33' Bertram. The Carpenters won the mixed bag award, bringing in 2 Striped Marlin, 2 Yellowfin Tuna and 3 Dorado. Congrats guys, see you again on Thursday, maybe you can catch a pelican aka Mexican Turkey.

Roberto Rusnack was back at again for day 2, and for the first time in 3 years Robert allowed someone else on the boat with him today. Selfish is certainly not the word to describe him, but Robert likes to catch fish and usually doesn't like to share. Congrats to him today for inviting a buddy along. They had a great day with the crew of TantRum, bringing in 3 Dorado and 1 Marlin.

Geoff and Emily Wyonzek of Memphis joined us for their first of two days on the water. Captain Omar and mate Americo were their hosts on ReelRum. They had a phenominal day one and almost won the mixed bag award. Emily got loose on the only Yellowfin of the day, while Geoff got his first Marlin. In between, they were also able to bring in 5 Dorado.

You'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on both the Zell and Lane parties today, I was a bit under the weather and didn't get a chance to stick around and see how they did.

-Ryan

Monday Report...

Barrett Schott and his buddy Corey Keller joined us for a day on the water with Rum Runnin. Captain Javier was at the helm and headed back to the Los Arcos/Migrino area he was at yesterday, hoping for the same success. The guys each got to catch and release a Striped Marlin and they also caught 8 Dorado, 4 of which they released.

Angela Miller and Tracey Purdy are visiting all the way from Canada. They were the second group of two ladies fishing together in as many days. This is a trend we would love to see continue. Sportfishing isn't just for boys you know. These ladies certainly proved that bringing in 1 Marlin, 1 Yellowfin and 2 Dorado.

Steve Lane and his crew are visiting from Cape Coral, Florida and he had one thing on his mind; Marlin. Coming from Florida, these folks weren't used to the amount of Marlin we have in the area and took full advantage, catching 2 Marlin and releasing them both. These guys also caught 3 Dorado.

Our good buddy Roberto Rusnack is back at it for his annual pilgramage for Marlin. Day one=Success.

Wayne Andrew and the Pure Fishing guys finished up their fifth and final day on the water today with Alex and Manuel on El Nuevo. They hadn't quite met their quota on Striped Marlin, so today they went out and caught and released 4 more! Javier headed up the Pacific coast about 17 miles to a spot on the coastline called Migrino. He got right into the action and kept the rods bent all day. 3 Striped Marlin and 4 Dorado when it was said and done.

Judi Scott and Cindy Halbgewoks both from Cambridge, Maryland joined us today aboard ReelRum. Captain Americo found the fish to be a littly picky in his neck of the woods today, but was still able to get Judi and Cindy hooked up with 2 Dorado. They took a few filets to enjoy for dinner and as per usual, we sent them over to see Israel at Misiones de Kino. Nice to have met you ladies, come back and see us.

Josh and Linea Morris of Washington and Jim and Kindle McCauley of Montana joined us aboard the RedBeam today. Captain Cesar was at the helm and he headed straight for the Golden Gate. While the fishing has been great lately, I think every Captain secretly wants to be the first to have a truly phenominal day at Golden Gate. It was this time last year that folks were catching upwards of a dozen Marlin a day at the Gate. While Sunday wasn't the day, they still did very well catching 2 Striped Marlin and 4 Dorado.

Wayne Andrew and his guests from Pure Fishing hit the Los Arcos area for their fourth day on the water. Captain Alex and his Mate Manuel have built up a pretty good working relationship with Wayne and his guests and they are all fishing great. I was out of the office and on the water last week, while we had the guys from "The Fishing Crew" in town. They were filming a TV show and we got some phenominal tape after having two great days on the water. On day one, my boat (which of course won the mini-tourney we had,) brought 4 different species to the boat. We had Wahoo, Dorado, Tuna and Striped Marlin. That was a first for me down here and I have had hundreds of days on the water. Pretty special. On day two, we had Professional Angler Ryan Weekly on monster fish for over 3 hours. We never got a look at it, but we are pretty sure we had a Marlin, and also pretty sure this fish was in the 700-900lb range. Ryan was a monster, fighting with all he had, but in the end, the big fish won. The amazing thing about this fish was that we were fishing a new lure from our friend Darrell at Ballyhoo Lures and the lure was hit while we were putting it out. We hadn't even finished setting it in place and getting the drag set, it literally got bit as soon as it hit the water. Amazing! Anyway, I got back to the boring stuff (the office work) on Sunday and I have been super busy and then I got hit with a little Montezuma's. That being said, and without further ado, here is the report from the last few days.

-Ryan

Saturday Update

Wayne and family fished on our 33’ El Nuevo with Captain Alex and Mate Mickey. David has been a client of ours for a few years now and wanted to share the RedRum experience with a few friends. Mark and Jason both got hooked up with Striped Marlin, and they crew finished with 8 Dorado as well. See you again in January David!

Another repeat client of ours Mark Moulton and his wife Carol, hosted Bob Gale and Bill Jame, everyone hailing from Washington state. Mark was down here last year at this time and for those of you who read this report often will remember that this time last year we were bringing in Marlin by the dozen. Well this year it is Dorado and Mark and his crew finished with 8 nice fish this year. Thanks for coming back to Redrum and Cabo San Lucas, hope to see you next year.

Stanley and Laura Honeycutt fished with us today aboard ReelRum and had a great day on the water. Captain Omar and Mate Americo put them on the fish from the start and they finished with 5 Dorado.

Rad Trascher and George Huye along with their lovely wives were back at it again today with a day on the water aboard our 33' Bertram, El Nuevo RedRum. Alex and Manuel took very good care of our friends from Louisiana, putting them on 8 Dorado and a nice Striped Marlin, again at the last minute. George and Rad were impressed by Captain Alex who saw a big bait ball about 200 feet below the boat, using his sonar equipment. Manuel rigged up a fat Caballito and sent it down. While it was George's turn on the rod, he thought it might be a big Tuna and wasn't interested in a long fight. Rad was quick to grab the bent rod and to his delight it was a nice 200lb Striped Marlin. It was a pleasure hosting you guys and hope to see you all again in the near future.

-Ryan

Sunday Report

The boys are fishing two different aread primarily. For those that want Tuna action, the Captains have been heading to Gordo Banks to see what the Sardine fishing can raise. Those that want to target Marlin and Dorado have been heading up the Pacific toward an area we call Los Arcos. Water temps are still warm, in the low 80's and we are still waiting on the Mackeral to arrive and the accompanying Marlin.

Today we had Rad Trascher along with his wife Berry and George Huye along with his wife Jessica visiting from Baton Rouge. Rad and George are heavily involved with CCA Louisiana and after sending countless groups down to stay at our condos and fish with us as part of our Play and Stay package it was time to see what the experience was like for themselves. Rad, George and the ladies really liked the accomodations and spent the first day or so getting acquinted with Cabo and taking our recommendations on where to eat and different things to do. Rad made a comment that each meal he had here was better than the previous, especially the finale where we cooked up some of their catch. For their first day on the water, they fished the 28' TantRum with Juan and Ramon. While the fishing has been fantastic as of late, they had a relatively slow day on the water, catching only one Dorado, before hooking a last minute Marlin, Rad's first! Hopefully tomorrow we can show them what Cabo fishing really has to offer.

Larry, John and Mike Guthrie from Washington state, fished with us today aboard RedBeam with Lupe and Muneca. These guys got into the fish right from the start and finished up with some great Dorado. While the average Dorado has been in the 25-35 lb range lately, these guys came back with 8 really nice fish, certainly above the average. They too, hooked up with a Stripey late and came back flying a Marlin flag.

Greg Page, Howard Water and Joe Sowell of Tennesee spent their second day on the water today with Omar and Americo aboard ReelRum. After catching Wahoo, Tuna and Dorado on day one, they finished up on day two with a ton of Dorado. They caught more than the limit and had to throw a few back, but had 11 fish to the boat when it was said and done.

Long time clients and friends, Jane and Charles Kitchens hosted their friends Lydia and Marvin Strakes for their first of two days on the water. While they only caught 1 Striped Marlin on the day, they did clean up on the Dorado bringing back 4 grocery sized bags of filets back. Their experience showed off with some real nice fish, 3 or 4 of which went over the 50lb mark.

10 boats out today

Mike, Israel, Christian and Francisco fished on our 33’ partner boat with Captain Manuel.
