This huge cottonwood tree is adjacent to the irrigation ditch in Algodones, New Mexico. The ditches started filling last week-a sure sign spring has arrived and soon this tree will be laden with leaves that turn a glorious gold in the autumn--cycling time.

In White Sands, the skunkbush sumac is often buried by a dune--it sends the roots upward which holds the sand in place--some of thse are huge! Reminds me of a cowboy/girl hat!
