I liked the "massaging numbers" bit.

I had to think, I bet being forced to think through all that has been good for you in a ton of ways other than merely in applying for this scholarship. Sitting down and focusing on where you've come from, where you'd like to go, what's important to you, and how that all ties together has got to be a very good thing.
