It has been very hot in the north of Canada. We reached a melting 30c last week. Jesse and I visited the pool a lot to cool down. Then we had a huge deluge of rain which flattened my corn and broad beans. Jesse was heartbroken to see his sunflowers down in the mud. I tried to get on the garden to tie them up straight away but just got stuck in the very sticky mud.

I took the plunge and offered to organise a float for Hay River Figure Skating Club. It took Ron and I two weeks to get it together. Of course it rained on Saturday just as were had planned to decorate it all with our silhouettes, streamers etc. This morning was just as bad so we fighting the wind to do it all. More fun with the Camera
Look what's been hovering around my house lately. It has been around a lot in the past week. Kitties watch out! Although it doesn't look like it from this angle - it is a young bald eagle.
This is a young crab apple tree in my front yard - right outside my office window. We even had a bee visiting while I was snapping away.

I am the proud owner of a Pentax Digital K10D. Very, very, very nice camera with lots of bells and whistles. I used to have a Pentax film SLR - not quite so many bells and whistles but also it didn't let me play around and just delete the pics that didn't work out. Digital is VERY forgiving like that. I can't imagine having to scrap that many pics on film. $$$$$$

Dad would have been celebrating his birthday today, June 1st.
Lots of tears here this morning. I expect my sister and Dad's wife are finding it really hard today too.
My dad passed away in March. It affected me far more than I envisaged. I hadn't been back to England for 10 years. Was just planning a trip at Easter but he passed away before I got there. He didn't know I Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-74978872455800903292007-04-21T11:05:00.001-06:002007-04-21T11:08:37.305-06:00Not been up to blogging...
Sad event in my life in March and I don't really feel up to talking about it yet.
So here is something that I am curious about instead.

Well as often seems to happen, Jesse caught a cold. The cold turned into a bad ear infection and he got taken to the ER. Rarely can we get an appointment to see a GP so they always tell us to take him to the hospital. He got antibiotics and seems to be improving. Then I went down with the cold or whatever it was too. What a headache I had for 4 days solid. Never had one like Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-1168906686479502182007-01-15T17:10:00.000-07:002007-01-16T08:32:21.623-07:00I'm a Hockey Mom!
Jesse had begun to get bored with CanSkate lessons. The kids just aren't being challenged enough and they are often left standing around doing nothing. Not good for 5 year olds. Most of parents seem to feel that things aren't going good for their kids at the moment.

Awoke to a lot of the fluffy white stuff this morning. Ron just moved the vehicles out of our drive so that we can clear some of the snow. It is still coming doen a lot.

Some readers here may know that my husband, Ron, was standing in the local Municipal Elections. I won't bore you here but it was pretty stressful for the family. On Monday October 16th just as the snow started falling, we learnt that he had made it.
The next morning Jesse was eager to tell everybody. This is what I learnt from the school bus driver yesterday. He got on the Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-1158426092971842462006-09-16T10:14:00.000-06:002006-09-17T17:21:26.950-06:00It's Been Ages
Things have a way of keeping me from blogging.
We were on vacation for much of August. Took our camper and went to the Peacebluegrass Festival in Dawson Creek. Had a blast even though it rained quite a bit. Saw our favourite band Hungry Hill. Jenny Lester is the sweetest person with the voice to match. Can't wait to see them again.
Then Jesse got ill. High fever. Gave him MotrinJackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-1152926169648963972006-07-14T18:57:00.000-06:002006-07-14T19:16:09.703-06:00Life's To Do List

On Tuesday morning Jesse said his tummy hurt. By lunchtime he was vomiting. Next morning we took him to the local ER (very small hospital here). He was put on a drip. His temperature went up. We were told they suspected appendicitis. The plane was coming from Yellowknife to medivac him. Ron and I were beside ourselves. I went on the plane with Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-1143858978593372172006-03-31T19:27:00.000-07:002006-03-31T19:49:31.843-07:00ICE CARNIVAL
As often happens, life and work got in the way of updating my blog again.
Last Saturday was the Ice Carnival for Hay River Figure Skating club. My son (4 1/2) was in the show again this year. He loves to skate. It is a passion with him. I think he would live on ice if he could. The Canskate 1 skaters did very well and all kept on their feet.
At the end of the show, Jesse was Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-1141857497053646502006-03-08T15:33:00.000-07:002006-03-08T15:39:26.566-07:00St Patrick's Day and Jesse
Recently remembered that I once designed a St Patrick's Day granny square. So for anybody looking for one, here it is. The pattern for it can be found on my crochet site.
Jesse did not get better with the antibiotics. His x-rays show no improvement to his sinuses. So we get to see a doc next week and see what can be done - if anything. I sure hope this is not Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-1140226536535174192006-02-17T18:05:00.000-07:002006-02-17T18:53:36.093-07:00Getting into Debt and Crafts
Anybody watch today's Oprah? I just caught a bit of it whilst passing a few minutes before going to collect Jesse from French School.
The subject was debt. I am always floored by amount of debt some families have. If I can't afford it, I don't buy it. The only reason I have credit cards is convenience and they get paid off totally each month. And we are not a richJackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-1137951716150747582006-01-22T10:11:00.000-07:002006-01-22T10:42:56.933-07:00Yellowknife
On Monday I finally got to fly to Yellowknife to see the neurologist about my numb hand and neck problems. Flew on this. Yes it is a DC3. It was loud but it got me there. Loud I didn't need as Jesse kept me up most of that night and I was really tired.
Yellowknife hasn't changed too much since I was last up there some 8 years ago. Canadian Tire has moved and a new building in its Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-1136914571008991122006-01-10T10:16:00.000-07:002006-01-10T15:04:48.820-07:00Was reading Paula's blog and noticed that she had made Rock Buns. Immediately sent me into a fit of nostalgia as I remember my Mum (sorry but being a Brit I spell it that way) making Rock Cakes for my dad. They were a favourite of his. Paula asked if I knew the origin of the recipe. I can only think it is because they are hard and look like rocks when cooked. Seems they can be dated back to at Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5562631.post-1136350085642100882006-01-03T21:38:00.000-07:002006-01-04T10:10:48.630-07:00Looking Back....
Just came across a granny square that I designed some 10 or more years ago. I had just joined CP, learnt to crochet and got an urge to try to design something for Valentine's.
Gosh it took me forever. I crocheted, frogged, crocheted, frogged. Then I realized that I hadn't written down the final attempt. It proved to be a very popular design at the time. I think it seems rather Jackiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01993992455616565315noreply@blogger.com
