We have decided to improve the Siesta areas, so we have bought new hammocks!

Hemos decidido mejorar la zona de siestas, y por eso hemos comprado nuevas hamacas!

What can be better than a nice glass of red wine, a good book, and to lay in the new hammocks in the shade of a pine tree, for example? Well, because Sant Blai offers you an absolutely relaxing experience, we have now added 3 new hammocks to help you to totally diconnect with a siesta in the breeze , with the swinging and the crickets and frogs singing in the background. Not bad at all....

Que puede ser mejor que una copa de buen vino y un libro interesante, tumbado a la sombra de los pinos, por ejemplo? Bueno, como en Sant Blai le ofrecemos una experiencia de absoluto relax, hemos ahora añadido 3 nuevas hamacas para ayudarle a desconectar del mundo con una siesta en la brisa, con el va y ven y los grillos y ranas como música de fondo. As I mentioned before in the post of the 16th of May, we found a few Quail's eggs that their mother had abandoned and we decided to adopt them and try to see if our hens would take good care of them, and they did. After just 19 days , today 3 of them have been born!!! They are soooooo cute... see the photos below! Still a few more eggs to hatch, we will see if they are also a success... How amazing nature is!

Tal y como os avancé en mi post en 16 de Mayo, encontramos varios huevos de codorniz a los que su madre habia abandonado, y decidimos adoptarlos y probar si alguna de nuestras gallinas decidia cuidarlos, y asi fue. Hoy, tras 19 dias incubandolos, han nacido 3 bebes!!! Taaaaaan graciosoooos...mirad las fotos mas abajo! Aun quedan varios huevos mas , y veremos si tienen también suerte.... Que increible es la naturaleza!

What a surprise! look what we have found...

Que sorpresa, mirad lo que hemos encontrado...

Today we have been clearing all the weeds around our bamboo plants. Whilst we were doing this we found a quail's nest in the ground. The mother Quail abandoned the nest leaving 10 eggs still warm. We have decided to take them and put them in our chicken house, and one of our hens has adopted them. She is now sitting on top of them and hatching them (we hope!).
We are now researching how to feed the babies if we are lucky enough to hatch them with their surrogate mother hen. We will keep you all posted!

Hoy estabamos limpiando todas las malas hierbas de nuestros bamboos y hemos encontrado un nido de codorniz en el suelo. La mama codorniz lo ha abandonado y aun estaba caliente. Al final hemos decidido probar con nuestras gallinas y una vez colocados en el gallinero, una de ellas los ha adoptado. Ahora , sentada encima los está incubando (espero!). Estamos buscando información de como alimentarlos si su nueva mama gallina los salva. Os mantendremos informados!

We have improved the swimming pool area even more!
Hemos mejorado aun mas la zona de la piscina!

The swimming pool area is a place for total relaxation. It is a good sized beautiful pool, which used to be the water tank for the old mill, and has been refurbished and converted into a refreshing pool. However, before we had the pool terrace with several umbrellas that weren't very comfortable with the wind , and this is why we have refurbished it and created a permanent and beautiful shaded area. See the pics for a better idea!

La piscina es una zona para el relax total. Es una piscina de buen tamaño, que solía ser el "safreig" o tanque de recogida de aguas del antiguo molino, y se ha reformado completamente convirtiendolo en una refrescante piscina. No obstante, teniamos un montaje con sombrillas en esta terraza que no eran muy prácticas con el viento, y por ello, hemos decidido reformarlo y crear una preciosa zona de sombra. vea las fotos para un aidea mas clara!

Que pasa en Sant Blai y en Mallorca en Semana Santa?

Easter is a perfect time to visit Mallorca. A lot of traditional activities and also the fantastic Eater recipes are worth trying, to discover another aspect of our great culture.

La Semana Sta es un momento perfecto para visitar Mallorca. Muchas actividades y tradiciones se unen a las fantasticas recetas de la cocina tradicional, y les dejan descubrir otro aspecto de la Isla y su cultura.

" The Majorcan gastronomy has a wide range of dishes prepared with products from the sea and the land (fish, meat, vegetables...). So, we have so many recipes varying from the most simple to the most elaborate... delicious! Every culture has its own typical gastronomy for Easter, (cakes used to be the protagonists: monas, pestiños, roscas, torrijas, Flores de Pasqua...). In Majorca it is usual that the whole family gathers together to celebrate Easter and, this way, prepare empanadas, cocarrois, crespells, robiols... or, other times, they met to taste those delicious home-made products that, although currently may be found all year, have a special taste when Easter arrives. There is a great recipe book called La Cuina de Mallorca by Jaume Fàbrega, that gathers together many recipes of the traditional Mediterranean gastronomy, that will be useful to easily prepare some of the most popular Majorca recipes of Easter: empanadas, cocarrois, crespells and robiols.- Consell de Mallorca

Of course at Sant Blai we will also be cooking the great Easter recipes, so all our guests will be able to try them and enjoy them with us!

Por supuesto en Sant Blai también cocinaremos las fantasticas recetas de Pascua, así nuestros huéspedes podrán saborearlas con nosotros!

Chocolate is also important. It is traditional to give to the little ones: chocolate eggs and rabbits , and on Sunday, the family enjoys a "Mona de Pascua" which is a very ellaborate cake decorated with many kinds of chocolate figurines on top. Years ago the decorations were mainly chocolate eggs, sweets and bunnies,nowadays you can find many figures and decorations, all of them delicious.

También es importante el chocolate. Es igualmente una tradición dar a los niños huevos y conejitos de chocolate , y el Domingo de Pascua, la familia disfruta de una "Mona de Pascua" que es una tarta elaborada y decorada con adornos de chocolate, con diversos tipos de figuras y dulces. Antiguamente se solia decorar con huevos, dulces tipicos y conejos, ahora ya se pueden encontrar Monas con cualquier tipo de figura, todas ellas deliciosas!

Another aspect of the traditional Easter is that Holy Week on Mallorca is not only a religious celebration to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, but also a popular tradition. The liturgical events begin on Palm Sunday with the blessing of palms, followed by a procession that represents the triumphant entry into Jerusalem by Jesus. This is held in all the parishes.
In Palma, the Holy Week Brotherhoods Association organises a cultural programme during the week before the Holy week, starting on Monday with the opening of the exhibition of standards and flags of the the city brotherhoods, at the Sant Antoniet Church. This cultural week, including concerts in different churches, finishes on Friday night with the Procession of Standards and the official proclamation of the Holy Week at the Sant Frances Basilica. Afterwards, there are processions every day, from Palm Sunday to Good Friday, but the most important are the ones known as Christ of the Blood (Maundy Thursday) and Holy Burial (Good Friday), which are also held in nearly all the towns on Mallorca. On Good Friday, at 12 noon, the steps of the Palma Cathedral are the scene of the theatrical performance.

Otro aspecto no menos tradicional de la Pascua es que La Semana Santa en Mallorca no tan solo es una celebración religiosa para conmemorar la muerte y resurrección de Jesús, sino que también es una tradición con un marcado carácter popular. El Domingo de Ramos empiezan las celebraciones litúrgicas con la bendición de las palmas y la Procesión de la Entrada de Jesús en Jerusalén. Todas las parroquias de la isla celebrarán esta festividad.
En Palma la Asociación de Cofradías de Semana Santa prepara un programa cultural durante la semana que precede a la Semana Santa, empezando el lunes con la inauguración de la exposición de los estandartes de todas las cofradías de la ciudad en la Iglesia de Sant Antoniet. Esta semana cultural, que también incluye conciertos en diferentes iglesias, finaliza el viernes por la noche con la Procesión de los Estandartes y el pregón de Semana Santa en la Basílica de Sant Francesc. Después se celebran procesiones cada día, desde el Domingo Ramos hasta el Viernes Santo, pero destacan especialmente las procesiones del Santo Cristo de la Sangre (jueves) y la del Santo Enterramiento (viernes), que se celebran prácticamente en todas las poblaciones de la isla. El Viernes Santo, al mediodía, las escaleras de la Catedral de Palma son el escenario de la representación teatral

Today we have made the first order for the Season: The bread and pastries for the breakfast!!! This has started the organisation for the first guest's arrival, this week.

The breakfast is the beginning of the day, and at Sant Blai it is one of the most important services ,because we know that a good beginning provides a positive day, and nothing better than to start it with a good selection of products and a relaxing "good morning" time.

We provide a late breakfast,starting at 9.30 and finishing at 11.30. From our experience, to do it earlier is a nonsense, as here, everyone is so relaxed that early mornings do not work. Every morning we set up a nice buffet, where we combine local products with the best brands. A good selection will offer you all the tastes as well as a complete nutritious breakfast/brunch to give you strength for the morning activities.

Our selection consists of:

- Fresh coffee from the genuine expresso machine, as well as a selection of teas and infusions.

- Fresh local oranges form the local farms that you can squeeze yourself .

- A selection of different breads and pastries that we bake every morning here.

- A platter of local cheeses and local meats and sausages

- Fresh variety of fruit from the season

- Kellog's cereals and milk as well as the best branded yoghurts

- Bonne mamann little individual jams and also individual butters, when possible,also jam homemade from our fruit trees. Also honey.

- Sliced bread for toast

- Tomatoes and other vegetables/fruits from our garden when possible

As well as breakfast time we are always around to be able to comment for possible requests and questions regarding your stay, and also to recommend you all the activities, restaurants,tips etc for your day. Remember that we can arrange trips around the Island for you, and make any kind of reservations you would like for your stay in Mallorca.

The breakfast is our favourite time of the day as we can communicate with our guests and spend some time with them, before they go off to the beach or to explore our beautiful Island!

Hoy hemos hecho el primer pedido de la Temporada: El pan y bollería para el desayuno! Esto ha comenzado la organización de la primera llegada de clientes,esta semana.

El desayuno es el comienzo de la jornada, y en Sant Blai es uno de los más importantes servicios que ofrecemos, porque sabemos que un buen comienzo proporciona un día positivo, y nada mejor que empezar con una buena selección de productos y un relajante "buenos días".

Ofrecemos un desayuno tardío, empezando a las 9.30 y terminando a las 11.30. Desde nuestra experiencia, hacerlo antes es una tontería ya que aquí todo el mundo está tan relajado que demasiado pronto por la mañana no funciona. Cada mañana servimos un buen bufette, donde se combinan los productos locales con las mejores marcas. Una buena selección para todos los gustos que les proporcionará, así como un nutritivo desayuno, un pre-almuerzo para darles fuerza en las actividades que van a desarrollar durante el día.

Nuestra selección consiste en:

- Café expresso de máquina, así como una selección de tés e infusiones.

- Naranjas frescas locales que Uds mismos pueden exprimir

- Una selección de diferentes panes y bolleria que horneamos cada mañana aquí.

- Un plato de quesos y fiambres locales

- Variedad de frutas frescas de temporada

- Cereales Kellogs y leche, así como las mejores marcas de yougurts

- Confituras Bonne Mamann y mantequillas, y cuando sea posible, también mermelada casera de nuestros árboles frutales. También la miel.

- Tomates y otros vegetales / frutas de nuestro jardín, cuando sea posible

En la hora del desayuno ,estamos siempre con nuestros clientes para poder comentar las posibles solicitudes y preguntas relativas a su estancia, y también recomendar todas las actividades, restaurantes, etc y demás consejos para su día. Today we have decided to go for a walk to enjoy the clear blue sky and Spring weather.We have chosen the pretty area of Cabo Ses Salines. Ses Salines is a beautiful little village, ten minutes from us, that has an amazing coast where you can find a magnificent Light house surrounded by stunning views and virgin beaches,such as Es Cargol, where we have been today to enjoy the Sunset.

Hoy hemos decidido ir a dar un paseo para disfrutar del cielo azul y el clima primaveral.Hemos elegido el Cabo Ses Salines. Ses Salines es un bonito pueblecito, a diez minutos de nosotros,que tiene una preciosa costa donde podrá encontrar un magnífico faro rodeado de imponentes vistas y playas vírgenes, como Es Cargol, donde hemos estado hoy para disfrutar de la Puesta del Sol.

From there you can see Cabrera,another Island declared Natural Park,which it is worth a visit while you're here.

Desde allí se puede observar claramente Cabrera, una Isla declarada Parque Natural, que sin duda merece la pena visitar.

And the most magical moment of the day, no doubt, has seen the few minutes that the amazing Sun has disappeared behind the horizon , swallowed by the blue sea.

Y el momento mas mágico ha sido, sin duda, cuando el increible Sol ha desaparecido tras el horizonte, tragado por el mar azul.

The Town Hall of Campos, our village, has now created an information stand for all the Fincas/Agroturismos in the Campos region.

El Ayuntamiento de Campos,nuestro pueblo,ha hecho ahora un stand informatiovo para todas las Fincas/Agroturismos de la región de Campos.

Campos is one of the best regions of the Island as it's beaches and countryside are officially declared a Natural Park. For this reason the area retains the essence of Mallorca, without the crowds and the over exploited touristic constructions and areas. However, Campos has much more to give than just pretty beaches, as the cultural side and the services have a very complete and interesting offer.

Cycling routes,shops,caribean beaches,birds observatory in the Salobrar,churches,restaurants, museums,artesan products,walking routes,the only natural thermal balnearium in Mallorca,street market,even a theather...Campos is the perfect choice for your holidays any time in the year.

In this region as well there are many Fincas that preserve, like us, the real esence of the country side, farming and pure relax in rustic atmospheres, where your free time will be converted in a unique experience, and surely you will be returning year after year.

The town hall has now set up a complete information stand every Saturday (market day) in front of the town hall, where they will inform you all about what is going on in the area and what to see during your stay in Mallorca, and especially in Campos.

This weekend, for example, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful Fiesta in Sant Blai's church (down the road from us) and tomorrow the church opens it's beautiful gardens to offer everyone a meal , a great party, and to show you the beauty of this XIII century temple. You can buy your ticket and enjoy some of the enormous 2 metres diameter Paella that the neighbours will cook for everyone - who would like to enjoy this fiesta with us?

From here we would like to thank all the town hall team for helping us promote our Fincas and also to the congregation of Sant Blai's church for opening their doors and offering us all a very pretty party every year at Sant Blai's temple.

I have to mention that this church has been restored and mantained thanks to the congregation set up by all the wives of the farmers in our area, who every Sunday , with smiles on their faces, go to clean it, take care of the marvellous garden in the back of the church, and keep the esence of the church alive!

Campos es una de las mejores regiones de la Isla ya que sus playas y campos están oficielmente declarados Parque Natural. Por esta razón la zona conserva la esencia de Mallorca, sin la masificación y explotación turística de construcciones y zonas.

Sin embargo, Campos tiene mucho mas que ofrecer que tan solo bellas playas, ya que su aspecto cultural y sus servicios tienen una completa e interesante oferta.

Rutas ciclistas, tiendas, playas caribeñas,observatorio de aves en el Salobrar,iglesias, restaurantes, museos,productos artesanos,rutas de senderismo,el único balneario termal natural en Mallorca,mercados, e incluso teatro... Campos es la perfecta elección para sus vacaciones en cualquier época del año.

En esta región también hay muchas Fincas que conservan, como nosotros, la esencia real del campo,granjas y el mas puro relax en ambientes rústicos, donde su tiempo libre se convertirá en una experiencia , que seguramente querrá repetir año tras año.

El ayuntamiento ha montado un stand informativo cada sábado (día de mercado), en frente del ayuntamiento,donde les informarán de lo que pasa y que ver en Mallorca y sobre todo en nuestra zona.

Este fin de semana, por ejemplo, podrán disfrutar de una preciosa Fiesta en el Oratorio de Sant Blai (al final de nuestra calle) y mañana la Iglesia abre sus maravillosos jardines para ofrecer a quien quiera un almuerzo,una fiesta, y para poder mostrarles la belleza de este Templo del s. XIII. Puede comprar un tiquet y disfrutar de un plato de la inmensa paella de 2 metros de diámetro que los vecinos cocinarán para todos - A quien le gustaría disfrutar de esta Fiesta con nosotros?

Desde aquí me gustaría mucho dar las gracias a todo el equipo del Ayuntamiento por ayudarnos a promocionar nuestras Fincas y también a la Congregación de la Iglesia de Sant Blai por ofrecernos a todos una preciosa fiesta cada año en el templo!

Debo mencionar que esta Iglesia se ha restaurado y mantenido gracias al excelente esfuerzo de la congregación formada por todas las esposas de los granjeros de la zona, que cada Domingo, con una sonrisa , van a limpiarla , a cuidar sus jardines detrás de la iglesia, y , sobre todo, mantener viva la esencia de la Iglesia

We all are very happy this week, as from the last Sunday we have a very special guest at Sant Blai: Toni Truyols , a cellebrity in Mallorca

Estamos todos muy contentos en Sant Blai esta semana ya que desde el pasado Domingo tenemos hospedado en Sant Blai a un húesped muy especial: Toni Truyols, una celebridad de Mallorca.

Our good guest Toni Truyols came last Sunday for a visit and a lunch with other friends at Sant Blai. He had never been here before, and he loved it , so decided to stay with us for a couple of weeks. He told us that he had a lot of work with his writings and also he is considering to renovate his Web site and has a few new interesting projects coming, so he felt that Sant Blai was the perfect and quiet place to be able to think and write. The first couple of days he was reading a lot of books about Mallorca, and also chilling and realxing around the garden. He said that from the first moment he arrived to Sant Blai, the inspiration filled his senses with ideas and plans, and a lot of motivation and now he needs to put them all together for a good plan.

Toni Truyols is from Mallorca. He has always been very involved in Tourism and he felt that all his knowledge about Mallorca could help people to get know the Island and it's infinite corners, magic places, activities and areas, so he decided to put all together in a fantastic Web site where he and his good friends can give constant tips to all the people visiting Mallorca. This way every visit can be a perfect experience.

From Sant Blai we support him and we are going to help as much as we can to spread his word so everyone can take benefit from his tips. We will also introduce him to all our guests.

Nuestro huésped Toni Truyols vino el pasado domingo a Sant Blai para disfrutar de un almuerzo entre amigos. Nunca antes había estado aquí y le gustó tanto que decidió quedarse un par de semanas.Nos dijo que tenía mucho trabajo para escribir y también estaba considerando renovar su Web . además tiene varios proyectos en marcha y por eso, Sant Blai le pareció el sitio perfecto para estar tranquilo y poder centrarse en sus ideas y para escribir.

El primer par de dias estuvo leyendo muchos libros sobre Mallorca, y también se relajó en los jardines. Nos dijo que desde el primer instante en que llegó a Sant Blai, le inspiración llenó sus sentidos de nuevas ideas y motivación , y ahora necesita ponerlas en orden para elaborar un buen plan.

Toni Truyols es de Mallorca. Siempre ha estado muy involucrado en el Turismo y sentía que todo su conocimiento sobre esta Isla podría ayudar a mucha gente a conocer sus rincones, lugares mágicos,actividades, zonas etc , así que comenzó a poner todo junto en una magnífica página de Web donde El y sus mejores amigos pueden recomendar infinitos consejos a todo aquel que visite Mallorca. De esta manera, cada visita puede convertirse en una perfecta experiencia.

From the smallest flower to the biggest tree, all is starting the action!Of course in winter the garden sleeps,it is how it is meant to be, but we can feel that we are going to have a great Spring this year, as it has been raining a lot. Today I would like to talk to you about all the great things we have developed at Sant Blai, the other side that you cannot see physically... keep reading!

Hoy me gustaría contarles las cosas nuevas que hemos hecho en Sant Blai, pero el otro lado, las cosas que no pueden ver fisicamente....Continuen leyendo!

The last few weeks have been very intense with the new developments and the marketing plans at Sant Blai. We started with Pepper's promotion as the new PR, and from this, a complete new world opened up in front of our eyes. I am talking about Social networking for marketing , blogging, twitter, facebook, and many other aspects on the Web.

Pepper suggested to open up an account with Twitter and Facebook , to start, and see what happens. This was created one month ago, and now, the surprise is that Pepper has 116 friends in Facebook and , right now, 378 followers in twitter!

These two accounts, have been constantly connected to this blog and the Sant Blai's Web site , and not just that, nowdays, the amount of great and useful information we have recieved from other social contacts is just unbelievable. Bit by bit we will incorporate to this blog all of the interesting information of other blogs, webs, services, and contacts we found around the net that will add to your experience at Sant Blai.

But, what is Twitter? Well, really Twitter is a very simple way to meet people and to know what are they doing in their personal and private lives. This is how Pepper travels around the world to show Sant Blai and Mallorca to everyone who may be interested. This is how Pepper learns new ideas about many things and gets new contacts and connections. Twitter is very well explained in the following video:Twitter tutorial

And what about Facebook? Facebook again is a social network, however in Facebook usually you add people who you know already, usually friends and contacts. In Facebook you have a profile, with as much information as you wish to add in it, photos etc, and you can share all with your contacts, have conversations, send emails,messages,links....etc. You can have a personal account, a profesional one, or both together, and you decide in every moment how much information and which information you would like to share and whith who.

Another new project we have been developing is a new blog about gardening. Roger has created it and he is constantly working in it with the new information about the mediterranean garden based in Sant Blai. At the moment this blog is just in English, however Spanish translation may come soon. You can see it here

All this new marketing campaign is parallel to a very interesting and big campaign the Town Hall in Campos is now doing. Campos, as you all know is our village, and is now starting a new touristic business plan to promote the area and to be able to offer much more to the many visitors we have here every year, in the South East of Mallorca. Sant Blai and all the other Fincas in the area are going to work with the Mayor and his team to help in this ambitious project and to also promote Camposmuch more. That's why here, at Sant Blai, we have also started our bit!

We will keep informing you about the new developements at Sant Blai, and also will keep you posted with all the great work that Pepper is doing for us... Follow her!

Las ultimas semanas han sido muy intensas con los nuevos desarrollos y campañas de marketing en Sant Blai. Empezando con la nueva promoción de Pepper como relaciones Públicas de la empresa, y a partir de esto, un nuevo mundo se ha abierto ante nosotros. Les hablo de las Redes sociales, la publicidad, el marketing,los blogs,twitter,facebook, y muchos otros aspectos en la red.

Pepper sugirió abrir una nueva cuenta en Twitter y en Facebook, para empezar, y ver que pasaba. Esto se creó hace un mes , y ahora, la sorpresa es que Pepper tiene 116 amigos en Facebook y , en este momento, 378 en twitter!

Estas dos cuentas han estado conectadas constantemente con este blog, además de con La Web de Sant Blai , y no solo eso, actualmente la cantidad increible de información útil y de vínculos que hemos recibido de nuestros contactos es maravillosa! Poco a poco iremos incorporando a este blog estos datos mostrando pedacitos de historias interesantes de otros blogs, vinculos, servicios , empresa..etc

Pero , que es twitter? Bueno, realmente Twitter es una forma simple de conocer a gente y de saber que hacen en sus vidas privadas y profesionales . Es la manera de que Pepper ciaje alrededor del mundo para mostrar Sant Blai y Mallorca a todo aquel que pueda estar interesado. Y sobre Facebook? Facebook de nuevo es una red social , sin embargo en Facebook normalmente agregas a personas que ya conoces , como amigos y familiares. En Facebook creas un perfil , con toda la información personal que desees , fotos etc., y lo compartes con tus contactos , puedes tener conversaciones con ellos, enviar emails, mensajes,vinculos, anuncios.... etc . Puedes tener una cuenta personal, profesional, o ambas juntas , y tu decides en cada momento cuanta información deseas compartir y con quien.

Otro proyecto que estamos desarrollando es el nuevo blog de jardineria. Roger ha creado este blog y trabaja en el constantemente para proveerles de toda la información sobre el jardín mediterraneo, basado en Sant Blai. Por ahora este blog solamente está en inglés, sin embargo estamos trabajando para traducirlo, y además dispones de muchisimas imagenes. Pueden verlo aquí

Toda esta nueva campaña de marketing es además paralela a otra gran e interesante campaña que nuestro ayuntamiento aquí en Campos está elaborando. Campos, como saben, es nuestro pueblo y ha comenzado ahora un nuevo plan turístico para promocionar la zona y para poder llegar a ofrecer mucho mas a la gran cantidad de visitantes que recibe Mallorca, y nuestro municipio cada año, aquí en la zona Sur-Este de la Isla. Sant Blai y las demás fincas de la zona vamos a trabajar conjuntamente con el Alcalde y su equipo para ayudar en este ambicioso proyecto y para promocionar junto a ellos Campos , y Mallorca. Por eso, aquí en Sant Blai ya hemos comenzado a poner nuestro granito de arena!

Snow...Nieve....

Today I will show you my snow experiences in Mallorca....

Hoy les mostraré mis experiencias con la nieve en Mallorca....

Yes , Mallorca is a summer place, with lots of great beaches and summer resorts, with the perfect climate, and sunny all the time.... however, even if you don't believe it, we have snow as well in Mallorca!!!!

The beauty of our Island is that we have nearly everything here; mountains, beach, city, villages,sun, rain, snow....Everything!

Ok, the snow is just in the mountains, yes, but sometimes also snows in the city or villages, not too often, but it is amazing! We have taken some pictures of our beautiful mountains, please see them below. There is no possibility of skiing in Mallorca (yet) however Pepper went to try her skiis in the Puig Major, the highest mountain in the Island (1445 m high). See the photo!

And it is cold, yes, very cold, however it is also very special to see Mallorca with the amazing winter light, and to enjoy the Island without the madding summer crowd. There is so much to discover and to see! Why not to enjoy a great hot chocolate in every little village, walking in the country or the empty and pretty beach , and to have a good day shopping at the sales in Palma?

Then you can also enjoy this show see a show in The Auditorium in Palma, if you come over in February and you can also enjoy the blossoms of the great almond trees aroud our paradise, for instance....

Come to Mallorca in winter too!!!

Si, Mallorca es un lugar de vacaciones, de verano, con preciosas playas y lugares de veraneo, con el clima perfecto y soleado siempre... Sin embargo, incluso si no lo creen, tenemos también nieve en Mallorca!

La belleza de nuestra Isla es que tenemos de todo, montañas, playa, ciudad,pueblos,sol,lluvia, nieve... De todo!!!

Vale, la nieve no cuaja mas que en las montañas, si, pero a veces nieva en la ciudad y pueblos, no muy a menudo, pero es increible! hemos añadido algunas fotos de nuestras montañas nevadas, veanlas mas abajo. No hay posibilidad de esquiar en Mallorca (aun) pero Pepper ha querido practicar y probarse los Skis en el Puig Major, nuestra montaña mas alta (1445 m). Miren la foto!

Y hace frío, si, mucho frío, pero es muy especial ver Mallorca con la luz de invierno, y poder disfrutar la Isla sin las aglomeraciones del verano. Hay tanto que ver y que descubrir!

Por que no disfurtar de una taza de chocolate caliente en cada pueblecito, un paseo en el campo o por las tranquilas playas, o un día de rebajas en Palma?

También por ejemplo puede ver un Musical en el Auditorium si viene en Febrero y disfrutar de l0s paisajes de almendros en flor de nuestro paraiso!

Voy a escribirles la carta a los 3 Reyes, y como he sido muuuuuuy buena, espero que me traerán todo lo que pido....

"Dear 3 Kings:

This year I ask you to not bring me anything, I just want to ask you please don’t take away all that I have, which is more important to me: my family, my friends, my masters, my loved ones, without whom life would be empty, my work, my fresh grass, my Sant Blai ....

Don’t leave me without the heat of affection, of love, passion for life, Don’t leave me without those with whom I share every day all these emotions, laugh and cry, those with whom I work and rest, those with whom I argue, and then reconcile in a tight hug. Those with whom I share brayings of love, and sweet caresses.

Don’t leave me without children, with their clear eyes full of curiosity, their sweetness, their enthusiasm for everything that surrounds them and their emotion when they come to see us.

Don’t leave me without the wonderful moments like juicy clump of grass or a delicious carrot, these shared breakfasts, these chats with friends, guests or family, sharing life with everything good and bad, and the strokes they give me.

Don’t leave me without laughter, an essential ingredient of life, the ability to laugh at myself and transform a tense situation into fun, and the people who help me achieve this.

Don’t leave me without sensitivity to pain, and the ability to share the hard times of others.

Don’t leave me without illusion to continue learning, recognizing and correcting my mistakes and accumulating experience.

Don’t leave me without the great opportunity to work and help in marketing our company, and to be able to become the public relations at Sant Blai.

Don’t leave me without the foggy mornings, warm sunsets and starry nights, the peace of the countryside, the bustle of the holidays and the stillness of quiet days at home, the beauty of Mallorca.

Don’t leave me without the visits of distant friends, their letters, their messages, their memories. Some of these friends have come into my life through the computer, which has served as a bridge to discover many similar feelings and interests at Sant Blai. From this I have had the pleasure of meeting people from around the world, valued guests with a good heart and care for the nature and the beauty, the tranquillity and simplicity of the pure and good things of life. And Others that I have not been able to meet yet, but perhaps in future be able to enjoy their company here at Sant Blai.

Don’t leave me without the immense satisfaction to see the happiness of our guests walking through the garden, and above all, Don’t leave me without the great happiness that I feel when they return year after year to visit us.

I appreciate that I am exceptionally lucky to live in this environment with my husband Blas and my baby Sugar, the fate that many others are not able have, to eat every day, drink fresh water, and have a happy life full of love and respect. I am extremely grateful for this.

I would also ask you to give to the people more humility, more love and more motivation, enthusiasm, happiness and good health, and all the force necessary to make the world a better place, with opportunities and help to everyone who does not have the luck that we have: those that have a life of suffering, without opportunity help them to help each other. Queridos Reyes Magos: Este año no quiero pediros que me traigáis nada, sólo quiero pediros que no me quitéis lo que tengo, que es mas importante para mi: mi familia, mis amigos, mis amos, mis seres queridos, sin los cuales la vida estaría apagada, mi trabajo, mi hierba fresca, mi Sant Blai….

No me quitéis el calor del cariño, del amor, de la pasión por la vida, no me quitéis a aquellos con los que comparto día a día todas estas emociones, con quienes río y lloro, trabajo y descanso, con quienes discuto, para luego reconciliarme en un estrecho abrazo. Aquellos con los que comparto rebuznos de amor, y dulces caricias.

No me quitéis a los niños, no me quitéis su mirada limpia llena de curiosidad, su candidez, su ilusión por todo lo que les rodea y su gran emoción cuando vienen a vernos.

No me quitéis esos ratos maravillosos ante una brizna de la mejor hierba, o una deliciosa zanahoria, esos desayunos compartidos, esas charlas en familia o con amigos, compartiendo la vida, con todo lo bueno y todo lo malo, esas caricias y esas risas.

No me quitéis la risa, ingrediente esencial de la vida, la capacidad de reírme de mí misma y de conseguir transformar una situación tensa en divertida, y a las personas que me han ayudado a lograrlo.

No me quitéis la sensibilidad ante el dolor, la capacidad para compartir los momentos difíciles de los demás.

No me quitéis la ilusión de seguir aprendiendo, admitiendo y corrigiendo mis errores y acumulando experiencia.

No me quitéis la gran oportunidad de poder trabajar y ayudar en el marketing de la empresa, y de poder acercarme más a la gente como relaciones públicas de Sant Blai.

No me quitéis los amaneceres brumosos, las cálidas puestas de sol y las noches estrelladas, la paz del campo, el bullicio de los días de fiesta y la quietud del hogar en días tranquilos, la belleza de Mallorca.

No me quitéis la visita de amigos lejanos, sus cartas, sus mensajes, sus recuerdos. Algunos de estos amigos han llegado a mi vida a través del ordenador, que ha servido de puente para descubrir muchos sentimientos afines, en Sant Blai. Así, he tenido el placer de conocer a personas de todo el mundo, a huéspedes con corazón que valoran la naturaleza y la belleza, la tranquilidad y la sencillez de las cosas puras y buenas de la vida. A otros aun no les he puesto cara pero quizá en futuro podré disfrutar de su compañía aquí, en Sant Blai.

No me quitéis la inmensa satisfacción de ver la felicidad de nuestros huéspedes paseando por el jardín, y sobre todo, no me quitéis la gran felicidad que me producen cuando vuelven, año tras año, a visitarnos.

Valoro y agradezco infinitamente la suerte que tengo de vivir en este entorno junto a mi marido Blas y a mi bebe Sugar, la suerte que muchos otros no tienen de poder comer cada día, beber agua fresca,y tener una vida dichosa llena de amor y respeto.

También quisiera pedir que aportéis a las personas mas humildad, mas amor y mas motivación, ilusión, felicidad y mucha salud, y toda la fuerza necesaria para hacer del mundo un mundo mejor, donde todos los que no tienen la suerte que tenemos nosotros, no tienen una vida digna y sufren, consigan mas oportunidades y que las personas se ayuden entre si. Have you ever heard about the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at 12 O'clock on the New years Eve?

The Twelve Grapes (SP. Las doce uvas de la suerte, "The twelve grapes of luck") is a Spanish tradition since 1909.The tradition consists in eating a grape with each bell strike at midnight of Decembe 31st. According to the tradition, that leads to a year of prosperity. Each grape is eaten with each beat of the bell. After the 12th strike everyone should have eaten all their 12 grapes, although this seldom happens due to its difficulty.
The twelve grapes are linked to the Puerta del Sol tower clock (Madrid), where this tradition started and from where the change of year is always broadcast.
This tradition was adopted also by places with a broad cultural relation with Spain such as Mexico, Hispanic communities in United States, other Latin American countries and as far as the Philippines

At Sant Blai we are also having the 12 grapes, sure, as we wish to be lucky in the New 2009.

Las doce uvas es una tradición española que unos viticultores alicantinos iniciaron en 1909 para dar salida a un excedente de cosecha de dicha fruta. La tradición de las 12 uvas consiste en comerse una uva con cada una de las campanadas de las 12 de la noche del 31 de diciembre(nochevieja).
El lugar tradicional de las 12 campanadas en España es la Puerta del Sol (Madrid), donde se encuentra el conocido reloj de la Casa de Correos.

El origen de la tradición de comer las uvas tiene un precedente, un bando municipal del alcalde de Madrid, José Abascal y Carredano , en diciembre de 1882 por la que se imponía una cuota de 1 duro (cinco pesetas) a todos los que quisieran salir a recibir a los Reyes Magos, una tradición que servía de excusa para ridiculizar la noche de reyes a algunos forasteros que llegaban esos días y a quienes se les hacía creer que había que ir a buscar a los Reyes Magos la madrugada del 5 de enero que se utilizaba para, además de burlarse de estos ingenuos, para beber y hacer cuanto ruido se quisiera. Con este bando José Abascal quitó la posibilidad a los madrileños de disfrutar de un día de fiesta en donde se permitiese casi todo. Esto, junto a la costumbre de las familias acomodadas de tomar uvas y champagne en la cena de noche vieja provocó que un grupo de madrileños decidieran ironizar la costumbre burguesa, acudiendo a la Puerta del Sol a tomar las uvas al son de las campanadas. Estos son los antecedentes que dieron lugar a esta costumbre.
El inicio de esta tradición española comienza, no en 1909 como se cree, sino, al menos, en diciembre de 1896 en la Puerta del Sol madrileña.
La prensa madrileña ya comentaba en enero de 1897 : "Es costumbre madrileña comer doce uvas al dar las doce horas en el reloj que separa el año saliente del entrante". Al año siguiente la prensa animaba a esta tradición con un artículo titulado "Las Uvas milagrosas".
La tradición marca tomar las doce uvas a los pies del reloj de la Puerta del Sol, pero esta tradición provocó tanto interés que ya en 1903 las uvas también se comían en Tenerife y poco a poco se fue ampliando al resto de España, aunque la tradición marca que deben tomarse en la Puerta del Sol.
La prensa de 1907 se queja de que esta tradición, supuestamente importada por los aristócratas de Francia o Alemania , se haya arraigado tanto en la sociedad y la clase más baja la haya adoptado cuando en sus primeros años se burlaba de esto .
Esta tradición ya se conoce en toda España en 1903 , aunque no será hasta años después que se extienda a todo el territorio nacional.
Aunque queda claro que la tradición, documentada desde diciembre de 1897, algunos la retraen a 1880 , pero sentando en diciembre de 1896, el inicio cierto de la tradición de comer doce uvas al compás de las doce campanadas del reloj de la Puerta del Sol.

En Sant Blai también tomaremos 12 Uvas, claro, para que nos den mucha suerte para el 2009!

Campos Estuary/Salobrar de Campos

Today I would like to show you the amazing Natural park and Estuary we have at 7 Km from Sant Blai, less than 10 minutes. There you can observe the great Fauna and Flora , and ejoy the only virgin side of Mallorca.

Hoy quisiera hablarles del Parque Natural y el Salobrar de Campos, que tenemos a tan solo 7 Km de Sant Blai, menos de 10 minutos.Allí podrán observar la maravollosa Fauna y Flora , y disfrutar de la única zona Virgen de Mallorca.

The natural area Es Trenc-Salobrar is to be found in the south of Mallorca, in the municipality of Campos. The area, with a total area of 1,500 hectares, comprises the Es Trenc beach, the dunes parallel with the coast and the salt tanks and cultivated areas nearby.

The Es Trenc beach is a virgin sand bank three kilometres long. At present it is one of the most popular beaches on Mallorca, and has beautiful find white sand, crystal clear water and people can enjoy nudist areas.

The dunes behind the beach form a dynamic ecosystem with different strips of dunes with vegetation adapted to the excess of wind and salinity formed by plants such as sea thistle, bushes such as 'zamarrilla', and trees such as the pine, 'sabina' and the tamarind. On the beach and the dunes fauna such as the 'corsa seagull', the rabbit, the bee-eater can be observed, plus some insects such as the dune beetle, spiders and mosquitos.

The Salobrar area is comprised of a group of artificial ponds dedicated to the extraction of salt joined to the sea via a channel from Es Trenc beach. There are also other areas that have been inundated naturally with vegetation adapted to the saline content such as the 'salicornia'. Es Salobrar is an important and magnificent wetland of the island and many migrating birds can be observed there.

The whole natural area is surrounded by agricultural land, some farms and country houses and nearby is the balnearium Sant Joan de la Font Santa. Sant Blai is also the perfect location to stay close to the Natural Park and be able to visit it during you stay.
The best way of reaching Es Trenc-Salobrar is via Campos, taking the road that leads to Colònia de Sant Jordi ( which is our road) and then turn to the right following the signs. Paid parking is in an open field less than 200 metres from the beach. The beach has a restaurant, a bar, the sole tourist establishments in the area, and also has a supply of beach beds and parasols.
Also it is very nice to cycle from Sant Blai to the Salobrar, and ejoy the pretty views and the country aromas all the way there.
Es Trenc-Salobrar is an area mentioned in the autonomous Law for Natural Areas (LEN) of 1991, which considered the areas to be Natural Area of Special Interest (ANEI), and the land classified as non urbanisable. The LEN in a third additional paragraph stipulates that the Balearic Government will promote the creation of a natural protected area in accord with the National Law 4/1989, for the conservation of natural areas and wild flora and fauna.

El espacio natural Es Trenc-Salobrar se encuentra ubicado en el sur de Mallorca, en el término municipal de Campos. La zona, con una superficie aproximada de 1500 ha, comprende la playa de Es Trenc, las dunas posteriores paralelas a la costa, y las salinas y tierras de cultivo que se encuentran en su área de influencia.
La playa de Es Trenc es un arenal virgen de más de tres kilómetros de largo. En la actualidad es una de las playas más populares de Mallorca, muy apreciada por su fina arena blanca, por sus aguas cristalinas y porque en ella se practica desde hace años el nudismo.
El espacio dunar posterior a la playa es un ecosistema dinámico formado por diferentes franjas de dunas con vegetación adaptada al exceso de viento y a la salinidad y formada por hierbas como el cardo marino, arbustos como la zamarrilla, y árboles como el pino, la sabina y el tamarindo. En la zona de la playa y en la franja dunar se pueden observar especies animales como la gaviota corsa, el conejo, el abejaruco, y algunos insectos como el escarabajo de las dunas, las arañas y los mosquitos.

La zona des Salobrar consiste en un conjunto de estanques construidos artificialmente aún hoy dedicados a la extracción de la sal y unidos al mar por un canal de conducción de agua procedente de la playa de Es Trenc. También se encuentran otras áreas inundadas de forma natural con vegetación adaptada a la salinidad como es la salicornia. Es Salobrar es una muy importante marisma de la isla y en ella se pueden observar múltiples especies de aves migratorias.
Todo el espacio natural se encuentra rodeado por terrenos de cultivo, por algunas granjas y casas de campo y a poca distancia se encuentra el balneario de Sant Joan de la Font Santa, y también Sant Blai.
La mejor forma de llegar hasta Es Trenc-Salobrar es desde la población de Campos cogiendo la carretera que va a la Colònia de Sant Jordi ( nuestra carretera) para después desviarse a mano derecha siguiendo las indicaciones. El parking se encuentra situado en una explanada situada a menos de 200 metros de la playa y es de pago. La playa acoge un restaurante y un bar, únicos establecimientos turísticos de la zona, y dispone de servicio de hamacas y parasoles.
También es ideal ir a visitar el Salobrar y Es trenc en bicicleta, para así disfrutar de los paisajes, y de los aromas del campo que nos rodea.

Es Trenc-Salobrar es un espacio natural mencionado por la Ley de Espacios Naturales (LEN) autonómica del año 1991, que consideró la zona como Área Natural de Especial Interés (ANEI), quedando su suelo calificado como no urbanizable. La LEN en su disposición adicional tercera estipula que el Govern de les Illes Balears promoverá la creación de un espacio natural protegido en esta área de acuerdo con lo que prevé la Ley estatal 4/1989, de conservación de los espacios naturales y de la flora y fauna silvestre.
