And finally, it's David Cook's turn. Ryan chats a little bit with David about how he ended up auditioning for Idol. "It's all my little brother Andrew's fault", Cook says, as his brother steps on the stage. David's homecoming whirlwind of a day is then shown - seems like he had quite a busy day with tv and radio interviews in the morning, followed by a mini-concert, a visit to his school where he honored his music teacher, a parade ultimately culminating to a crowd of thousands waiting for David to perform another mini concert at his high school. Andrew is right by his side the whole time, and they both cry during this emotional day. His day end at the baseball field, where he threw the first pitch on the Kansas City Royals mound. After a short recap of the judges comments of his performances the night before, we are shown a video of David's amazing journey on Idol.

Tonight, the contestants sang 3 songs each - one picked by one of the judge, one picked by the producers and one that the contestants chose for themselves. Typically, Top 3 night is a good night, where the contestants really give it their all to get to the finale. Opinions may vary, of course, but I did think we had a good night, and some really great performances.

When I heard about this song choice, I just knew David was going to kill it. And I was not wrong. Boyfriend sounded GORGEOUS, heartfelt, just really beautiful. Love the arrangement. While I don't think it was his best of the season, I still think it was amongst the very best.

ROUND 1 - I agree with Simon, round one goes to Cook, without a shadow of a doubt.

The pre-performance chat with Ryan was so awkward.... He's cute, but sooooooooooooooo awkward.... This was an horrible choice for David. I agree with the judges that it was nice he didn't got for a syrupy ballad, but this song really didn't suited him. The lyrics didn't fit David's personality at all, which didn't make for a believable performance. Archiewahwah was really pitchy throughout the song, and his interaction with the crowd, while nice, felt so contrived... It felt like he was trying so hard and concentrating on it so much....

Once again, Syesha uses all she can to get by. Short dress, suggestive dancing, provocative lyrics *for american idol at least). While I thought she performed well, it felt very desperate to me. And I agree with the judges - it was a weird choice, especially after she had just sung a contemporary song, and quite well at that. Not into this much.

The barrrrrrrrrrrtender performed another great song. I was left wanting more tho - I love how he builds momentum slowly, but with the time restrain of the show, it leaves me wanting to hear more once he kicks in to higher gear. David was a bit pitchy on this one, which is unusual for him. But still, I loved it. Great, great, great.

Absolutely perfect choice for him. I was worried but he pulled it off unbelievably well! Randy SHUT UP!!!!!! You are so far up Archie's ass that you can't hear anything else. I LOVED the "yeah, yeah YEAH!" in the middle. GORGEOUS.

This night is always really interesting for me. It really unveil who the judges want to see in the finale, and who the producers are trying to push there, too. Randy clearly loves him some Archie, and he made it clear with his comments to him, but also in how negative he was with the others, even with Cook, who he proclaims to be a fan of. Paula, who always finds something positive to say about everyone, had a hard time saying anything positive about Syesha other than she looked great. And Simon clearly loves him some Cookie, although he seems to remain objective enough to also praise Archie accordingly. The producers, on the other hand, couldn't make it clearer that they want a David-David final 2. Syesha got the short hand of the stick on her choice from them.

Aside from Dvid Cook, I really can care less who gets in the finale of the remaining two, although I'll admit that there's a small part of me that would rather see Archie there, because I think he deserves it more.

We'll see tonight....

American Idol Season 7 - Top 4 - Results

It's results night... Tonight, the Top 4 ill become the Top 3... The contestants who make it to the Top 3 get to go back home for some sort of homecoming celebration. Parade, mini-concert, various appearances... It should re-energize the contestants, so they can come back with a vengeance and offer us great performances for the Top 3 Performance Night!

First, the Top 4 offered us a pretty darn cheesy group sing of “Reeling in the Years”. Funny to watch "The Davids" walking and dancing in time. :)

The Idols went to Vegas last week to watch the Cirque Du Soleil show, "Love", based on the music catalogue of The Beatles. The idols went to the show, met the cast, played with dolphins and seem to have had a good, relaxing time. After showing us a recap of the events, Ryan brought out David Cook. Ryan recapped what the judges said about "Hungry Like The Wolf", David nodding in agreement when Ryan said that Simon would have liked to have seen him put more of his own stamp on it. Giggling at the mention of Paula wanting more Cookie, David explained that he felt off all day leading up to the performances. His head was in the wrong place. After receiving advice from Randy on how to reach the finals, he is pronounced SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Songs that have shaped rock & roll - this was the theme of tonight's show. The contestants were able to choose amongst the songs of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It should have been a great night, by all means...

The judges bickering was at an all time high tonight, and it was pretty painful to listen to. Can't they just give their comments and shut up after? It's not about them, it's about the contestants!

VERY nice. But why did he do the falsetto again? He missed the mark with the falsetto. But yes, I thought he did well.

It's hard to predict what will happen tomorrow night. Jason was thrown under the bus, and this might have fueled his fanbase into voting even more. Syesha's sexy ways, showing off some legs and crocodile tears will give her the sympathy vote. Archie probably got even more granny votes than usual. David Cook having gone first will not help him, but it might have gotten his fans to actively vote to make sure he'd be saved.

Nonetheless, here are my predictions:

Top 2: David A, David C
Bottom 2: Syesha, Jason
Going home.... Jason.

Some more pondering about the night:

Gotta give it to Archie, he came out strong and big tonight. For the first time in weeks, I really enjoyed his performances. Yes, it was predictable. Yes it's pretty much what he's done throughout the show so far. I thought for the first time in a really long time, he felt his lyrics, which makes a huge difference. Yes, even Love Me Tender, I felt it from him. I had to shake the ew factor off of me after *LOL* but I thought Archie really connected especially with that one. His vocals were spot on, and he really upped his performances at a crucial time. Good for you Archie.

Jason was just painful to watch, and I felt so sorry for him. I liked his ISTS - I thought it was perfect for him. It was not his best performance, but it was a really solid one, IMO. I just couldn't believe how cruel the judges were to him. It's one thing if they didn't like it - to each their own, ymmv and all that jazz - but to crucify him the way they did, that was really bad. I thought Mr.TM was good, nothing earth shattering but good, until he forgot the lyrics. His immaturity showed there, as he was completely unable to cover his mistake up. I don't know how his fans will react in terms of voting - I've read in many places that people were not going to vote for him, to put him out of his misery, so to speak. Others were so enraged that they voted a million times harder, recruiting and all that stuff. So really, who knows what will happen to him...

Syesha did good. She used all she could to remain in the competition, she really left it all out there. From the cleavage to the legs to the sexy hip movements to the playful dancing with Ricky Minor to the tears... She really took advantage of everything available to her to remain in the competition. Her singing was alright - her first song was good but too copycat it felt karaoke. Her second song was better, until she started crying and not hitting notes. I have the gut feeling that she'll be safe.

And David Cook... Poor dear Cookie. It was his week, and he delivered sub par (for him) performances. As many said before, I too think he just psyched himself out of two potentially great performances. He thought too much about it, put too much pressure on himself, and forgot to just go out there and have fun. This was Innocent week all over again - one could read the disappointment in his face after each song. Vocally he sounded great... Although it seems he was a bit out of power in BO'R. Performance wise... HLTW was so tame, I couldn't believe it. BO'R was better in terms of performance, much more like the Cookie we all know and love. I guess the guy has set the bar so high for himself, we all expect much more from him, which is not a bad thing, but also can totally mess with his mind, like it did last night. Still, his sub par performances are better than most contestants best.

Of course I am highly invested in Cookie, and I hope he makes it through... I am really worried about him tho. Between going first, putting on so-so performances, Sy's tears, Jason's smack down and Archie's breakthrough night... That doesn't leave a whole hell of a lot of room for Cookie. I hope his fans voted like they did the night of Innocent to save him. Because despite his so-so night last night, he does deserve to go to the finale. He's been the most consistent of all, the most original of all, and the most versatile of all. And let's not forget the guy can sing the fucking phone book and legions would be swooning because of that gorgeous voice of his.

Result night will be interesting, for sure....

I love Neil Diamond. Total guilty pleasure of mine. I was expecting great things for the idols tonight! And I have to say I was disappointed. Very strange night, from karaoke performances to amateur night mike to Paula totally loosing it... The only one that was coherent tonight was Simon. And of course, David Cook was awesome!
