So I'm trying to decide if I really want to switch over to wordpress and get things rolling over at the new site. I apologize to my readers (both of you) if this jostling and jiggling is making it difficult to read my rants. go to Elijah Brubaker Dot Com for the new look and tell me what you think, I'm pretty bad at this coding thing so it will most likely take me forever to get it looking the way I want.Elijahnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454761.post-91735421633866689372007-10-02T07:03:00.000-07:002007-10-02T07:12:17.529-07:00
I've gone back to the old EJBComix URL for a day or two. You might have read in a previous post that I started a job recently right? I know, I know, I can't shut up about it. Well, the paycheck still hasn't come in yet and we're kind of eking by. Usually when we're in that situation we end up blowing the last of our money on some really good food somewhere... it makes total sense, fuck you.
We decided to go to the burrito place up the street with all the framed R. Crumb posters on the walls (as a side note I'd like to point out that that isn't why we go there, the food is actually pretty good and all the nic-nacks and rat fink dolls and stuff are actually pretty repulsive to me.) We loaded up on habenero hot sauce and bean burrito then got a cupcake at the "we sell nothing but cupcakes" store. We then stopped in the grocery store to gather up what little groceries we could afford and saw Tom Spanbauer standing at the deli case.
On our way home I made a little rubbing of the first stanza of a poem laid backward into the cement on the sidewalk.

(I flipped it around in photoshop)
in case you can't read it it says

the old man
must have stopped our car
two dozen times to climb out
and gather into his hands
the small toads blinded by our lights

I plan on making a rubbing of the rest of the poem soon

I then saw this glued to a signpost and carefully peeled it off.

the more I read it the more it means to me.Elijahnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454761.post-57755494054676232962007-09-25T13:57:00.000-07:002007-09-25T14:07:39.340-07:00Reich #2 available for purchase.

Hey all. I've been getting a lot of work-compliments about how I'm very productive and a self-starter and all of that shit. I wish I could say that stuff doesn't effect me but it does a little, it feels pretty good to be told you're doing a good job, even if that job just involves lifting heavy things and putting them back down.
The job is doing all the stuff I'd hoped it would. It's keeping my mind off my petty complaints (mostly, see below) and has forced me to get used to a sleeping schedule. I think I'm getting into slightly better shape and the promise of a meager yet necessary paycheck looms on the horizon.
I've been putting off many things lately and I'm slowly getting through them this week. I've been meaning to write letters, I've got some art projects. The biggest hurdle has been getting back on track with Reich. I drew a page today after work and I feel pretty good about it. I cleaned and reorganized my studio and it seems a bit more conducive to working.

I was recently informed that an old girlfriend has been engaging in rumor mongering... nothing too serious just some "he done me wrong" stuff that from my perspective, and as I heard it through the gossip grapevine, sounds like bullshit. I'm hesitant to even write about this because it's so petty and uninteresting but it's been weighing on me since I heard it yesterday so here it goes out into internet land. my main concerns are thus:
A- this is what I get for moving back to Portland.
B- The girl and I went out in High School and I've thought about her maybe once in the past ten years*, aren't there better things to complain about?
C- I was a total asshole to her sure, we were both assholes. I disagree with some of the finer details of the rumors but who really gives a fuck? It was like, fifteen years ago.
D- it mostly pisses me off that I can't seem to escape every jerk I knew when I was young.

there, that's off my chest, back to real life. I have a drawer full of ideas that I may never get to but I hope to start putting the wheels in motion soon. I get frustrated when I get excited about new projects because I feel like i'm just trying to figure out ways to avoid finishing Reich. I know a lot of my plans won't pan out but I figure the more things on the back burner the better chance of getting a good stew... does that make sense? god I'm an idiot.
Thanks for indulging my weak ass rant about what a whiny bitch I can be. I promise I won't do this often. I already regret posting this.

*I ran into her at a comics show last year and it turns out she's been making comics. They weren't really my cup of tea but it was a weird coincidence and it kind of made me go a little buggy for the night.
