Here is video of Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson in April 2006 advocating for the “rape victim” in the Duke Lacrosse case. Sharpton (talking to Bill O'Reilly) says that O’ Reilly’s defense of the players is completely untrue and that the District Attorney has convincing evidence that he needs to convict. Jackson adds his justification for paying for the"victim's" college tuition, and refutes the possibility of her accusations being false, saying that those statements are a distortment of the truth. He also attacks Duke players that were not indicted as knowing the truth about what happened, and says that if the races were reversed in the case then people would be more fired up about the incident.

UK Judge Says Al Gore's Film Is Biased

The Daily Mail reports a judge in the UK has said that Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth promotes partisan views, and that teachers who show the film to their pupils must make it clear that there are opposing opinions on the subject. Stewart Dimmock, from Dover in South-east England who has children aged 11 and 14, went to court after the government announced in February that DVDs of the film would be sent to all secondary schools in England, along with other global warming propaganda.

In a three-day hearing, the court was told the film contains a number of inaccuracies, exaggerations and statements about global warming for which there is currently insufficient scientific evidence. Mr Dimmock says Gore's film is "sentimental mush", and accused the government of "brainwashing" children. The Mail reports:

Mr Justice Burton is due to deliver a ruling on the case next week, but yesterday he said he would be saying that Gore's Oscar-winning film does promote 'partisan political views'.

This means that teachers will have to warn pupils that there are other opinions on global warming and they should not necessarily accept the views of the film.

Mr Dimmock said at the start of the hearing: "I wish my children to have the best education possible, free from bias and political spin, and Mr Gore's film falls far short of the standard required." He wants the film banned altogether, and his solicitor said "no amount of turgid guidance" could change the fact that the film is unfit for the classroom.

Wow.....This is not like him. Guess the NBC Execs didn't like the heat generated by Olbermann's (D) recent Michael Vick comments. He was very quick to back peddle and say, 'Uh, what I meant to say was....'.

It will also be interesting to see in the weeks to come if he continues this whole 'Worst Person in the NFL' thing or if he is just using this to play off his non-apology apology. My prediction is that if he does start singling out players and or coaches he will be shunned very quickly. Either way I don't look for him to last the entire season in his current role.

By the way Keith, "well-doneness" is not a word.

I'm With Fred:

When I was working in television, I spent quite a bit of time in New York City. There are lots of things about the place I like, but New York gun laws don’t fall in that category.

Anybody who knows me knows I’ve always cared deeply about the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. So I’ve always felt sort of relieved when I flew back home to where that particular civil liberty gets as much respect as the rest of the Bill of Rights.

Unfortunately, New York is trying, again, to force its ways on the rest of us, this time through the courts. First, they went after U.S. gun manufacturers, seeking through a lawsuit not only money but injunctive control over the entire industry. An act of congress in 2005 blocked, but did not end, that effort.

Now, the same activist federal judge from Brooklyn who provided Mayor Giuliani’s administration with the legal ruling it sought to sue gun makers, has done it again. Last week, he created a bizarre justification to allow New York City to sue out-of-state gun stores that sold guns that somehow ended up in criminal hands in the Big Apple.

The lawsuit has been a lesson in out-of-control government from the get-go. Mayor Bloomberg sent private investigators to make “straw” purchases – illegally buying guns for somebody else. According to the ATF, NY’s illegal “stings” interfered with ongoing investigations of real gun traffickers.

Obviously, New York won’t get much cash out of the few dozen shops being sued in Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia; so the purpose can only be political. Some of those sued have already buckled under the financial strain of legal defense and agreed to live by New York City rules.

Ironically, all of this comes at a time of historically low violent crime rates and historically high gun ownership rates nationally. States where it is legal to carry guns are also at an all-time high, up to 40 from 10 in 1987 by NRA reckoning.

While this attack by New York City on the Second Amendment reinforces the importance of appointing judges who apply the law as written, there is another important legal point. Federalism, though usually seen as a protection of the states from the federal government, actually grew out of the need to protect states from other states that interfered in free commerce beyond their borders – as New York is doing today. In this case, we need Federalism to protect states from a big bully in New York City.

SALEM, N.H. - Obama girl has upset Obama's girls. The Web video of a scantily clad actress pledging her affection for Barack Obama been a hit online, but not in his own home. Obama says his 6-year-old daughter Sasha has noticed news coverage of the video.

"Sasha asked Mommy about it," Obama said Monday in an interview with The Associated Press. "She said, 'Daddy already has a wife' or something like that."

"I Got A Crush On Obama" stars an aspiring model and actress named Amber Lee Ettinger, aka Obama Girl. Her song, which has lines like "Universal health care reform, it makes me warm," has gotten more than 3 million hits and nearly 10,000 comments since being posted two months ago on YouTube, the online video-sharing site.

Obama, said he knows the video was meant to be lighthearted, but he wasn't smiling when asked about it in the interview.

"I guess it's too much to ask, but you do wish people would think about what impact their actions have on kids and families," Obama said during the interview.

New Gallup Poll: Romney Posts Modest Gains

PRINCETON, NJ -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has posted modest gains over the last two weeks, both in his favorable rating and in his positioning in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. One presumption is that Romney's gains reflect the visibility that followed his win in the Iowa Republican Party straw poll last weekend, although data in the new Gallup Poll show that only a third of Republicans nationwide are directly aware that Romney won this unofficial contest.

Summary

All in all, the general finding is that Romney has enjoyed a modest improvement in his standing among Republicans, and that this improvement coincides with the time of his victory in the Iowa straw poll.

GOP Iowa Debate 8-5-07

A debate on Sunday morning? Odd. I thought that this was actually the best debate so far……. They actually let the candidates speak for more then 15 seconds.

However, they did have a great deal of biased questions and ones aimed specifically at ‘Bush Bashing’. Multiple questions were predicated by first saying ‘The Bush Administrations policy for such and such is this. Do you think that is right or wrong?’ As if all republicans are clones of George W Bush. Have they not realized yet that Bush is not running in ‘08? I also enjoyed how the moderators tried to frame the debate of upgrading our bridges and other infrastructure into the fact that we must raise taxes in order to fund the upgrades. In other words: ‘You must raise taxes in order to save lives, Right?’ Oh, by the way… Its the states responsibility to upkeep their infrastructure, not the federal government’s! (good grief)

It was a good debate none the less, but it think it was mainly b/c they gave them more time to speak and didn’t treat it like the interview portion of the Miss America contest.
