There will be lingering fees to access certain material from the period of 1923 to 1986, but the public domain portion of the archives from 1851-1922 and all of the archives from 1987 to the present are available without charge.

Looking at the web traffic of NY Times (It drops back to the 2005 level) ... They ought to do it sooner rather than later! With information overflood the Internet and our everyday lives, media might as well start paying us to read their stuff (rather than getting us to pay for it).

Canada's Largest-ever Class Action Against Mobile Carriers

The Saskatchewan court has certified a class-action lawsuit that accuses Canadian cellphone companies of profiting from charging customers system access fees (CAD$6.95/month) over and above their regular service costs.

The suit, targets an estimated $12 billion (plus interest) in customer charges collected over the years could possibly the country's largest-ever class action. This has affected at least half of the Canadian populations (all cell phone users in Canada).

Rogers Wireless, one of the largest carriers in Canada said it would appeal the certification. With $12B on the line, it doesn't look like the carriers will be back down without a fight. However, we do look forward to getting away from the mobile dark age.

GIMP is an opensource image manipulation program (Photoshop-like). It works on different operating systems, which included Windows, Unix, Mac. It also support all the major languages in the world. It is a very nice piece of software for users who don't want to shell out $600 to get Photoshop but yet good enough to do all the photo editing and image composition.

There are many free tutorials to walk you through all the "how-to" step by step. The help files come with different languages and it is pretty easy to start learning how to use GIMP from scratch.

1) Wii Balance Board

Get this step pad along with the game "Wii Fit" and you can cancel your gym membership. It will monitor your heart rate while you doing sit up and aerobic exercise in front of your tv.

2) Wii Guitar

Become a Rockstar or super geek when you play Wii's Guitar Hero with this peripheral.

3) Wii Zapper

The design is really cool, now let's see if Nintendo could get some good shooting games out.

4) Wii Wheel

This Wii Wheel addon gives you a good feel of handling in any Wii driving games.

Nintendo just announced the Mario Kart edition at E3.

5) Wii Sports Pack

This set just make the classic Wii Sports more fun.

Don't really like the design of this combat set but it can be worse.

Not a big fan of pool and I don't think this short cue stick helps the game at all.

This fishing rod is too real; pretty sure it will hit the ceiling if you fish with this.

The design is not too impressive; it looks like a blade more than a knife. Since it should compliment with the game Cooking Mama, what about the frying pan?

Apple's iPhone would be officially go on sale tomorrow. Not surprisingly, we are already seeing people in the big cities lining up outside the Apple Stores trying to get their hands on the iPhone.

People are getting used to pay the big bucks and wait in line for days to get their hands on latest gadgets (e.g. PS3, Wii, etc...) I'm not sure how many of them are actually looking to resale it for profits.

In order to feed the crowd, all the Apple stores would be open until midnight on Friday and each customer can buy up to two iPhone (if available).

Two of the world's largest blogs Gizmodo and Lifehacker announced today that they will be dropping the yellow Digg button on their articles, unless they are exclusive or original content created by themselves.

Gizmodo and Lifehacker also encourage their fans to stop submitting all of their posts to Digg. It make sense because many Digg users are just submitting everything they read to Digg. As much as I like their ideas behind it, I think it is hard to regulate and people will just continue to submit whatever they feel like.

It seems like 90% of the technology blogs that I read have the Digg badge or some sort of social bookmarking buttons... Are we going to see other major blogs going to follow suit?

Betting On Google

Google's stock has climbed over $500 per share and it has been acquiring different companies left and right. If you look at the corporate world, you could see that it is a very common practice anyway. One may argue that Google may eventually grow too big and become the second coming of the evil empire (Microsoft), but we can worry about that later.

Interestingly enough, the online gambling industry is picking this up as well. We are starting to see people placing bets on which company Google is going to acquire.

At this time, Facebook has the best odds with 3 to 1, followed by CNETs GoDaddy and Associated Press. My guess is, Google will acquire fifty more companies before getting to these guys ...

When was the last time you played a web game saving lives? This time, you can help save real lives playing this flash game, Stop Disaster.

The ISDR (International Strategy for Disaster Reduction) developed a web game called "Stop Disaster". It aims at teaching children how to build safer villages and cities against natural disasters. Children will learn playing how the location and the construction materials of houses can make a difference when disasters strike and how early warning systems, evacuation plans and education can save lives.

The game itself is like a mini Sim City, consists of different scenarios that you can start with. You have to help prevent natural disaster like tsunami, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes by securing the villages. The game is not in a very fast pace and each game can be finished within 20 minutes.

Google announced today you can start using Google Reader offline. To do so, you have to install the browser plugin from Google Gears. Once it is done, you can download your feeds and read them offline. To get started, click the "Offline" link in the top right of Google Reader.
