The goal is to get the adaptive rowing community together for a weekend to recruit new rowers and coaches and educate through sharing coaching and rowing ideas. The weekend is scheduled for September 12 and 13 in Sudbury. The RowOntario Adaptive Rowing Committee is organizing the weekend and would like your input on what you would like to get out of such a weekend.

We have funding to bring in experts for workshop modules. Suggestions for modules so far include athlete training and care, rigging and strapping, erg technique and training options, and on-water coaching ideas and strategies. The Sudbury Rowing Club has an accessible boathouse and boats will be available for LTA, TA and AS rowing.

Please reply with any ideas for the weekend that you may have. Most importantly, send a list of topics the you would like to see covered and possibly any experts in the field that you would recommend.

RowOntario and the Coaches Association of Ontario have committed substantial funds to make this weekend possible. Now we need your help to make it a success - to insure that this funding is well spent and will be available in the future. Please plan on attending the weekend and give us suggestions on how the weekend can meet your needs and the needs of other coaches and athletes interested in adaptive rowing.

Thomas

--
Thomas Merritt
Coordinator and Coach
Sudbury Rowing Club - Adaptive Program
Sudbury, Ontario
http://www.sudburyrowingclub.ca/content/view/6/37/

No viruses found in this outgoing message
Scanned by iolo AntiVirus 1.5.6.4
http://www.iolo.com

Internet Explorer 8 makes surfing easier. Get it now!

SCRChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03872508250708949460jazwalker@hotmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5376484035678547019.post-33549399258785707912009-06-03T07:40:00.001-05:002009-06-03T07:40:33.832-05:00Tony Biernacki RegattaFolks,
For 2009 the entry fee for the Tony Biernacki Regatta June 20th in Welland (North Course), will be the responsibility of the athletes. The Mexican organizers of the event have been informed of this decision.

As an alternative, US Rowing has offered both Mexico Rowing and Rowing Canada the option to compete as CanAmMex teams at the US Club Nationals to be held in Oak Ridge Tennessee from July 15 to 19. US Rowing will be fielding a complete team for this event and we have decided to accept the offer to attend the US Club Nationals.

Selection for this event will follow the same process as for the CanAmMex team and the selected team will compete as the Canadian team at the US Club Nationals. Selection will be based on results at the upcoming Junior Trials and our plan of course is to put together a team that will be very competitive while providing to our young athletes an experience that will be rewarding, enjoyable and a good platform for long term athlete development.

I would ask that you pass on this message to any of your coaches who have athletes competing at next weeks trials.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and look forward to seeing many of you at the Junior trials early next week.

Peter Cookson

High Performance Director

Rowing Canada

Help keep personal info safe. Get Internet Explorer 8 today!

SCRChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03872508250708949460jazwalker@hotmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5376484035678547019.post-34463146507598510652009-05-28T11:42:00.001-05:002009-05-28T11:42:41.199-05:00Announcement to Ontario Athletes

<SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: 'Helvetica','sans-serif'; This is great news for those that would like to get out on the water without the need of a coach boat. However, I do hope that you all continue to keep safety in mind when heading out on the water on your own.
Keep in mind that this weekend is very busy with many club activities so opportunities to row are few and far between, but statrting Monday things should be back to normal and next weekend most if not all high schoolers will be away (as will the shells), but the water should be calm from no coach boat swells! ! !

Thank you

Mark Welsh
Head Coach
St.Catharines Rowing Club

Windows Live helps you keep up with all your friends, in one place.

SCRChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03872508250708949460jazwalker@hotmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5376484035678547019.post-35900216935616367142009-05-08T08:08:00.001-05:002009-05-08T08:08:58.202-05:002009 National Junior Trials Registration - Now Open!Hi everyone,

The 2009 National Junior Trials are being held in Welland, ON June 1-2, 2009.

This year we have implemented a new online registration process. All junior aged rowers are welcome...please begin making arrangements to secure equipment as it will be difficult to gather enough equipment at the host club. Coaches are welcome and encouraged to attend and assist with the camp. The likely location is the South Niagara Rowing club in Welland- we are waiting on just some final details to confirm this location. The official announcement of the camp will be out in the next day or two. The selection for the Junior National Team will take place on June 1-2 in Welland in pairs and singles, so this camp is a great opportunity to get on the course and get some valuable time and coaching in your small boat.

Please remember that the final erg score submission is due April 26th and can be a 2k or a 6k score. Please note that for the upcoming camps, the primary focus is on small boats as the pairs and singles are the selection tool used (National Junior Trials held in June). To that end, it is important to do some planning and organizing for yourself to find some practice time in these respective boat classes so you are best prepared for success in selection at the Trials. The club(s) that host the camps are usually quite stretched for equipment so it is critical that you make arrangements to secure a boat and have it transported for the camp (similar to what will have to occur for the National Trials). We will do all that we can to assist you with participating in the camp, but your assistance with equipment will be very helpful and appreciated. I will be in touch with you throughout the upcoming months but feel free to ask questions or seek direction on any areas pertaining to the National Junior Program. We want to help the program and its participants pursue excellence and compete with the best in the world. In the spirit of the pursuit of excellence, we also want to extend a warm welcome to Peter Cookson, the new Director of High Performance for RCA.

Key Dates

Saturday, April 25

Junior Camp

11-4 pm

Location to be announced (soon)

Sunday, April 26

Erg Submission ( see rowingcanada.org website for more info)

2k or 6k

Saturday, May 9

Junior Camp and Mock 2k time Trial

12-4 pm

Location to be announced (soon)

Monday/Tuesday, June 1/2

National Junior Trials

South Niagara Rowing Club, Welland

Details will follow in the days and weeks ahead about the various camps and events.
