On this date in 1982, Thomas Dolby released his fifth single, "Windpower". It was backed by "Flying North". Both songs appeared on his debut album, The Golden Age Of Wireless. The single reached the #31 spot on the U.K. singles chart. Alternate versions of both songs also appeared on the five song EP, Blinded By Science, which consisted of five extended versions of songs on The Golden Age Of Wireless album. The London new wave musician was a previous member of Bruce Woolley and The Camera Club as well as The Fallout Club prior to his solo career. He also wrote "New Toy" for Lene Lovich. After some time off, he has recently started performing again.

When Banger (later of Slaughter and The Dogs) and Reilly left, Morrissey (later of The Smiths) and Billy Duffy (later of The Cult) replaced them but that was short-lived and no releases came out of that lineup.
