It is good to have a reminder of heaven so often.

Only certain people are given permission to pass through this door. Some day I will be called to my heavenly home and, because Jesus died for me, I am given permission to pass through the door to my Father's house.

Unlike the sign on the door, though, God invites all to enter into his kingdom, not just a select few. He places no conditions on who we are, how much we have sinned, what we look like, nor what our job description. He only asks that our hearts believe in what He has done for us on the cross. That's it!

Through the gift of faith through grace, I can leap for joy that God has given me official permission to enter His house when I leave this earthly home. Yep, he has given me the go-ahead! He has turned on the green light! He has handed me a license to enter! He has shown me the big OK hand sign!

Jesus told his disciples "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." John 14: 1-4

This Bible verse reminds of the popular Audio Adrenaline song "Big House." My Father, God, has this big awesome house with many rooms waiting for me and the door says "Authorized Believers Only!" Oh, that would be me! I'm a believer! Are you?

Hymn: God, We Praise You, Lord We Bless You.

Hymn: "God, We Praise You, Lord We Bless You"
Tune: Ode to Joy;
Text: David Roth, II (based on the Te Deum)

David is a member of Hanover and we are blessed by his writing.

Lyrics

God, we praise you, Lord, we bless you. Although the observation is short, the sentimental remembrance is lasting. Take a moment to observe All Saints Day with us by watching the below video taken during our worship service this past Sunday. The simple tolling of the bells rings loud and clearly the great things that Christ has done through the saints that have gone before us. Can you feel it down in the pit of your inner being?

During that moment when we remember the saints that have gone before us, I reflect on those who have passed away that have touched my spiritual walk in some way. My first thoughts always go to my grandparents. Their faith seems to touch my heart more now that they are gone than when they were alive. My heart expresses a deep feeling of love for them when I reflect upon the example of faith which they left behind. That feeling lasts all week long.

I would make a guess that most people do not like to consider themselves a “saint.” I know I do not like to call myself that as it feels as if I am in no way deserving of such a elevated title. On the other hand, what a wonderful thought it is to be one that is included in the “communion of saints.” It is so wonderful to belong! Everyone feels at one time or another that they do not fit in, but with Christ, I am included in the “communion of saints!” What a fantastic feeling that is. Next time you say the Apostles’ Creed, the words “communion of saints” will take on a whole new meaning for you.

What makes us a saint? How do we become a saint?

I attended a Women of Achievement dinner last week held by the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau. I marveled at all of the extraordinary achievements the nominees had accomplished in their lifetime and thought to myself that I would never be able to do such great things. What a wonderful feeling it is to know that we do not have to do anything outstanding in life to be nominated for the “communion of saints!” God has chosen me! . . . and you!

What makes us a saint? It is not any action of our own that makes us a saint, but rather by the work of God that we are made a saint. God sanctifies us. He makes us holy. "Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word." Ephesians 5, 25-26

How do we become a saint? It is not what we do, but what God has done in us poor sinful beings that we become a saint. We are made holy by Christ who washes away our sins. Through the gift of faith in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven and set apart as holy people.

“I sinned today, Lord. I sure do not feel holy. I certainly do not feel a saint.” But God says to me and you that we are forgiven, and holy, and therefore a saint! If only we could look at ourselves as God sees us and, even better yet, if only we could look at others as God sees them, then what a better outlook on the daily walk that we call life would come forth.

In this solemn moment of the ringing of the bells, we in silence rejoice that God has chosen us to be his saint so that we may live for Him until we too are called to our eternal heavenly home. Go forth and be that example for others as those who are special in your heart have been for you.

Lutherans on Twitter

Do you twitter?

https://twitter.com/hanoverlutheran

LUTHERAN CHURCH MISSOURI SYNOD

http://twitter.com/thelcms news report on the Southeast Missourian? We're having our bi-annual sausage supper!

We all love the taste of hand linked pork sausage and kettle cooked apple butter, but many of us don't have the time to make all of that in one day. This Sunday, you don't have to! After you leave church, come on down to 2949 Perryville Road, right down the street from the Pilot House. Hanover Lutheran Church is holding their bi-annual Sausage supper. Meals include fresh homemade sausage with our 176 year old secret blend of seasoning, sourkraut, buttered potatoes, green beans and bread, with the finest homemade pies and deserts. Why drive to Lamberts for a great meal when you can get it here at Hanover. Dinner runs from 3:30pm to 7pm, Nov. 1. See you there!

*******

I traveled today and spend a short while with the men as they were preparing some sausage. I arrived at the end and missed most of the action. I am considering spending more time with them next year and making a documentary as they were more than happy to share how sausage is made for the locally famous eating event! I am certain there are others that would be as interested in seeing the behind the scenes work of these men.

Here are just a few photos that I took at the end of the day, after two days of work and preparation had already passed.

Here the men are tying the casing. It is thereafter cut, leaving one end tied and the other open for filling.

Next the casings are filled by inserting them onto the bar of this machine that is filled with the sausage. I learned that the men were making what is called "head cheese," but it has nothing to do with cheese! Go figure that! I understand that this is meat from the head of the cow and the meat is especially good and "sweet." This meet will only be available for carryout tomorrow during the sausage supper.

Next, the links are tied off with string on the closing end.
