He is an easy rider, a hard worker and an outlaw in a sort of romantic sense of the word. At the age of 14, George Caudill started working on big rigs with his father. He got his first job doing mechanic work with Mitchell Wright. He now works for Mitchell's sons, driving for Larry Wright Trucking and doing mechanic work for Doyle Wright at A and G Trucking. Much like when the sun falls behind the mountains in Eastern Kentucky just before dark, the coal industry is in a blue period. With the rise of green technologies and enviormental conciousnes, George's lifes work and experience are now being threatened by the changing times. Jobs in and related to the coal industry keep the people of Eastern Kentucky alive. Like many other Appalachian people, George fears what will happen when the coal industry leaves the area. Will the communities just fizz out like the last firecracker on the fourth of July or will there be something to fill the void?

Bruce Collum: Still image edit

When I started working on Bruce's story I didn't quite know what to expect, I just saw a pair of legs under a van and thought it would make a cool picture. Then I met Bruce. This guy is one of the most for real people I have met. Throughout the course of working on his story we ended up becoming friends. So, meet my good friend Bruce Collum.

Bruce Collum works on a van to make extra money for his family. Collum is constantly fixing something.

Bruce Cullom works on lawn mowers and cars to help support his family while his wife Tiny Meadows waits on the porch for Collum to go to the hospital with her because she is feeling ill.

Bruce Collum's hands are aged from years of working and hard-living.

Bruce Cullom, age 60, receives a hug from daughter Nay Meadows, age 15, on their back porch with cousin Lonnie Whitney and wife Tiny Meadows. Cullom has is on section 8 housing has diabetes and has survived cancer.

For about 25 years Roy Miller has worked as a Mechanic. He is currently working at the Cheveron station on 11th and broadway in Bowling Green, Ky. Miller said, "I just got out of school and got into it, I had to have a job."

Punk Rock Hip Hop

Tonight I got a chance to do a portrait for a friend who is trying to get started as a rapper. An unconventional rapper but a pretty good one.

Rusty Brooks keeps the punk rock attitude alive with his rhymes. Brooks currently lives and works in Pikeville, Ky. while he strives to make it in the hip-hop game.

Punk Traveler

I was finally feeling better today until a sting of bad luck that resulted in missing a chance to do a portrait changed that. Then I got the chance to shoot this picture. I am happy again.

Writer, traveler and punk rocker Travis Jhue has been in and out of cities and small towns across America. Jhue has traveled by many modes of transportation from hopping trains to getting rides. In Fall of 2009 he returned home for a while just to move again from Pikeville, Ky. to Lexington, Ky. for now.

Thanksgiving break I have been spending a lot of time with my family. I have been thinking about how important family is in a persons life. So, I am thankful for family.

First I went to my grandparents on my Mom's side.

Then I went to my Great Grandma's house on my Dad's side of the family.

Earlier in the week I spent some time at my Brother's house this is my niece.

Jonathan Strouth is the only person I know that is going to elope and hire a photographer. I was sworn to secrecy until the wedding was over. Now here are a couple of my favorite frames from the wedding.

For my Lighting class I had to do a portrait of a musician this time.

Steven Page was inspired by old timey music and keeps that alive in his music. Page plays frequently at Greener Grounds in Bowling Green, Ky.

From time to time when driving I am drawn to shoot a picture. This was one of those times.

This is not quite as pretty but yet again just a picture that I was drawn to shoot.

These started out that way. I thought the sky and the house looked cool, so, I shot a picture of it and decided I wanted to make it a portrait. Then I decided to make it a weird portrait and then it turned into a whole thing.

I shot this last one for my lighting tech. class. The assignment was to capture a performer's personality.

Brad Tabor is a singer-songwriter who mostly just plays for friends and fun. A song that he wrote about 3 brother's bar can be found on the juke box at the bar.

I woke up this morning at 6:30 for no obvious reason, so, I decided to go shoot some pictures. I saw a mother and child sitting on their front porch under a thick blanket waiting on the school bus in some good light, but the school bus beat me to them. Then while I was out and about I rolled up on this little feller. I had an idea for a project a while back called "The rise of man-kind and the fall of critter-kind" and this fits it perfect. I was thinking something like... "As man prospers on this fine earth we have and spreads civilization we are loosing room for the critters. Roads now cross what used to be forest along with houses and cities. Because of this critter-kind has had to wonder down into what is now mans land. It's hard for a critter to make it out in mans land rummaging through trash for food and crossing busy roads to get home. It seems that the farther along man comes the less room there is for critter. They end up roadkill. "

So, we have an assignment to find a situation with natural light, it's supossed to be golden hour stuff but I did mine after midnight. I will more than likely shoot more during the day, but anyway this is the frame I got from chasing light after dark.

Earlier that day I had to shoot the Old Timers classic cross country meet. I got there after the girls race had started so this is like the 3rd frame I shot.

I started working on a project that may or may not change direction, but it is about the bars that WKU students frequent. I was trying to show the personality of each bar through doing portraits of the students who drink there.

Jackie Clarkson, age 21, is a senior agriculture student. Jackie is originally from Middlesboro, Ky.

Trey McGinnis, age 21, is a senior marketing student and a Bowling Green native.
