Jr Jog and Fun Run

This year the Brian Diemer Amerikam 5K Race wrapped up with the traditional Jr. Jog for younger runners, and added the Auto Master's 1 Mile Fun Run.

10 and under run a 1/8-mile or 1/4-mile with Olympic Medalist Brian Diemer around the soccer field in an everyone-wins event. The full 1 mile run is new this year for kids 12 and under.

Brian Diemer Amerikam 5k Race Celebrates 20th Annual, June 13, 2009 in Grand Rapids

The Brian Diemer Amerikam 5k Race has been a staple in the West Michigan running community and beyond for 20 years and has continually gained momentum.

The 5k began in the late 1980’s in Wyoming, Michigan, with the team up of Brian Diemer, a 1984 Olympic Bronze Medalist, and Amerikam. Amerikam is a Wyoming-based corporation designing, developing and manufacturering valves, industrial fittings, precision machined components and assembled products. Brian Diemer and Amerikam have maintained their strong partnership for over twenty years – even as the race changed venue and season of the year.

“As we look back at the past twenty years, we are very thankful for the success of this Race, growing from just a couple hundred runners to over 1800 runners competing in the 2008 5k Run/Walk, and over 300 children enjoying the Legacy Christian Jr. Jog,” reflects Rob Hyde, race director. “We invite you to join us at the 20th Annual Brian Diemer Amerikam 5k Race on June 13, at 9:00 a.m., in Cutlerville, Michigan. Come for the run - but stay for all the fun of Cutlerville Days.”

It's time again to register for the Brian Diemer Amerikam 5K Race at DiemerRun.com!

The 20th annual Diemer Run is scheduled for Saturday June 13. Last year's course is back, but there's a whole set of improvements for this twentieth running. Along with the usual prize money and tractor trophies for the top finishers, in honor of our 20th anniversary, the 20th finisher in each age group receives a prize!

Kids - don't miss this year's Legacy Christian School Jr. Jog. We've stepped up the regular races this year adding the Auto-Master's Inc. 1-Mile Fun Run for ages 12 and under!

Finish Line

Matt Thull from Milwaukee crossed the finish line in 14:43 a full 12 seconds ahead of Kyle Baker of Grand Rapids. The Brian Diemer Amerikam 5K Race drew 1117 runners; some locally from Caledonia to Holland, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Fremont, Redford, and other states like Indiana, Colorado, Wisconsin, Washington and Utah.

None of that would have been possible without Amerikam and all our great sponsors like Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, and Turnkey Network Solutions.

If you haven't registered for the Brian Diemer Amerikam 5K Race yet, it's not too late! You can't register online anymore, it's too late to register in person at Gazelle Sports, and the mail-in deadline has passed. It's OK - don't panic! We're here for you.

You've just run a 5K in beautiful downtown Cutlerville. You beat Brian and are looking forward to a donut. You're ready for the parade and the rest of the 35th annual Cutlerville Community Days. But between now and then you need some refreshment for your body and your ears. The Brian Diemer Amerikam 5K Race won't let you down.

Common Shiner will be there to meet you at the finish line. Along with the usual post-race fare and plenty of it, Common Shiner is playing from 9:20 - 10:40 in the morning at the refreshment area before the awards near the Legacy Christian School Soccer field.

Whether it’s having fun, feeling spiritual or knowing bitterness, the Grand Rapids five-piece tries to reflect the human condition in its pop-glossed, folk-rock style of music.

Diemer Run Course Notes

The course is back by popular demand - flat and fast as it loops through the Pine Rest Campus, down the Cutlerville Days parade route on 68th St., finishing where it starts.

Directions to the starting line:

From US-131, exit at 68th Street.
Take 68th Street East 1/2 mile
to South Christian High School for parking.
Starting line is across from Legacy Christian School.

Come early for the Pancake Breakfast at Legacy Christian School at 7:00 AM.
All outlying streets close at 8:00 AM.

No dogs, bikes, skateboards, roller blades, or scooters allowed on the course. All runners must be registered to participate. ChampionChip-timed start & finish line results are compiled by Classic Race Management.

The Diemer Run starts at 9:00 AM.

Be sure to stick around for the Cutlerville Community Parade and the rest of the 35th Annual Cutlerville Community Days at 9:45 and the Awards Ceremony at 10:30 AM.

The 18th Annual Brian Diemer Amerikam 5k Race will be held Saturday, June 9, 2007, in heart of Cutlerville. The race is recognized as one of the top Michigan races, and is part of the 35th Annual Cutlerville Community Days festivities sponsored by the Cutlerville Chamber of Commerce. The race’s name sake, Brian Diemer, is all about having a great time as well as doing your best on this 5k course that wanders through tree-lined neighborhoods and the beautiful Pine Rest grounds, ending on 68th Street near the community project “Vision for Division”.

“Brian Diemer is one of the most humble, honest, giving men”, stated Robert Hyde the co-race director and long time friend, “But, he also has quite a sense of humor.” About 10 years ago, that sense of humor showed up in the form of a fun reward offered to any runner who could beat Brian in the annual event- thereby creating the Donut Challenge. The first year of this sugar-coated challenge yielded 20 runners who beat the 3-time Olympian and Steeplechase Bronze Medal winner. Brian even sports a t-shirt with a “donut” bulls-eye on the back to jest with runners coming up from behind. “The idea was if they beat me, I would reward them with donuts, then perhaps I might be able to beat them next year”, Brian shares with a huge grin. The Calvin College Track and Cross Country Coach knows that runners thrive on little challenges, and things that make the race personal and fun. He stated that his team loves to follow him through the race only to speed past at the end and have a laugh with Coach Diemer while eating the donut. Last year, 10 years after the initial “Donut Challenge”, about 3 dozen runners enjoyed the treat.

The Brian Diemer Amerikam 5k Race began 18 years ago when Brian Diemer, 3 time Olympian and Bronze Medal winner, and Amerikam, a corporate leader in technology, manufacturing and community service, came together to form a partnership of skill and volunteer effort to launch a race that now is part of the Corporate Triple Crown Series. The race is also recognized as one of the top Michigan races. It has grown from 320 participants to almost 1,200 in 2006. This year’s race will be Saturday June 9, 2007.

It is rare that an event can combine athletic skill, a family-friendly environment, and philanthropic results.
