Dark Elf is a multiplayer, browser strategy game. It combines medieval and fantasy nuances, and is loosely based on the film "Lord of the Rings".

The world map is enormous; players can view their own lands, other players’ lands, fortresses, heroes.

At the beginning, you start with a small kingdom and few soldiers. As time passes, you conquer more lands; build fortresses and magic towers, train heroes. There are several playable races - Men, Barbarians, Orcs, Uruks, Necromancers, Magi, Elves, Dark Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits, and Ents. Every race starts with different amount of initial resources.

The game objective is to conquer lands from other players and defeat the evil Dark Elf, a tyrant, ruling the world.

Ether Saga Online (ESO) is a free-to-play MMORPG by the creators of Perfect World, Perfect World Entertainment. The game features beautiful, anime-like graphics with some cool in-game systems.

Many gamers find the ESO play style somewhat similar to Perfect World style. The game has many quests and leveling up through quests is fast enough. So, although the game is Korean, the grind level is relatively low.

Races and Classes:
Players can choose between there races – Renzu, Shenzu and Yaoh.

Classes:

Dragoon – uses lance and heavy armor. Dragoons are the tank equivalents.
Rogue uses dagger. Rogues are damage dealers.
Mystic – healer class.
Ranger – uses a bow, and can cast de-buffs. Another DD class.
Conjurer – equivalent to battle mage, DD class.
Shaman – something between healer and tank. Your shaman character can cast buffs, tanks, fights. Uses hammer and heavy armor.

More game features:

Quest and Navigation Systems are integrated; you will always find where your quest target is located.
Element Leveling up – as you level up, you will receive points that can be assigned to specific elements. The elements have different properties and will affect greatly your gameplay.
Skills – each class has unique skills. Characters receive additional skills, related to the day; they were created (birthday skills). Also ESO offers group skills for player guilds.
Pet System – but lately almost all MMOs have pet systems. Do you have a pet home? I have cats … Together with the pet system comes the fusion system – something like morph system, players can fuse with their pets and gain new abilities. (I want to have cat ears and tail in the real life)
Monster Card System – another morph system, you can collect monster cards and transform into the respective monsters.

Few days ago, Perfect World Entertainment announced their new MMO - Kung Foo. For now, from anything I learned about the game it is going to be fun and parody oriented.

Their first tweet says:
"Preparing to launch a new game, Kung Foo! The game will be a parody game focused on providing a fun spoofy atmosphere for the community."

Magic World Online

Magic World Online is yet another free-to-play MMORPG. It has plain, 2D graphics with not much character customization – the only choice is the character class, gender and fraction. This is maybe the only drawback of the game. MWO brings memories of Diablo 2 with its graphics and gamestyle. The game interface is relatively convenient, if you need to go on some map coordinates, you can click on the map and your character will go there. The skills, stats and so on windows are intuitive, even newbie players wont face difficulties.

Characters
At the beginning you can make a choice between four starting classes – Warrior, Archer, Summoner, and Mage. Later all of the classes have multiple possibilities for specialization. The first class change is at level 15. My first character was summoner and I was pleased to see actually useful and powerful summons, even the first elf.

Bot
The MWO client comes with a built in bot, which puts aside some of the game grinding. Even while I write this post, the bot is working hard for its food. It is highly customizable and I actually like it. Of course if you are not careful enough, the bot can get your character killed easily.

Quests / Experience / Drop
The game has many different quests. Players start with an intro quest and meet their class master in it. The experience and item drop are enough to keep the game entertaining. You can level up relatively fast and if you get bored you can leave the bot to do its job.

Monsters
Players meet a variety of monster types in game. There are some monsters with special aura, marked as elite – they are stronger than normal mobs but they drop more and better items.

Mass gaming, castle sieges
I haven’t met many players at the low level towns and fields. And I haven’t been on a siege as you can guess. I look forward for one though.

New trailer of the long waited MMORPG Guild Wars 2 have been released few days ago. The new trailer shows the races of Tyria – asura, norn, humans, charr, and sylvari.

Races of Tyria:

Asura are races of intelligent people, living beneath the surface of the world of Tyria. They are inventors, alchemists and spell casters. They use complex, magical machines (golems).
Norn – they use the spirits of nature – wolf, lynx, bear. They will be able to shapeshift.
Charr – furious fighters with urge to conquer.
Humans – where we can go without humans?
Sylvary – plant spirits race.

Guild Wars 2 looks like it will be the next big title out there with a massive, fantasy world and challenging adventures.

WonderKing Online is a free-to-play, side-scrolling, 2D MMORPG. The game features cute anime graphics and fun, entertaining gameplay. Currently the game is in its closed beta.

Gameplay
The gameplay of WonderKing Online is very similar to most of the other side-scrolling MMORPGs. Players fight with monsters, do quests, explore dungeons and collect loot. You can form a party or a guild with your friends. The game is easy, nice, colorful, relaxing and in the same time addicting.
The controls are relatively easy to handle. The only thing I had a hardship was looting. The key wasn’t listed anywhere or I couldn’t find it. So if you have a similar problem – press down arrow to loot.
The game world is full of cute and sweet monsters. The background is a set of fantasy sceneries and has some magic in it.

Classes
WonderKing Online has four starting classes – Swordsman, Thief, Mage and Scout. Swordsmans as usual are the tank characters with strong defense. They use a melee attack and a sword as the name says.
Mages can specialize as damage dealing Wizards or support type Priests.
Thieves can deal a great amount of damage in a short period. They can specialize in melee or range combat with dagger or shurukens respectively.
Scouts are the ranger type characters with bows or guns.

Quests
WonderKing Online offers many different and entertaining quests. At the start players can do basic quests introducing game functionality and interface.

Overall Impression:
The game is very similar to MappleStory as player experience by my opinion. WonderKing Online is a beautiful and relaxing game, appropriate for almost all gamers.

Demon Risng Preview

Yesterday, TQ team announced new expansion of the popular MMO Eudemons Online. The new expansion is called Demon Rising and will be launched on 11th December 2009.
The update will offer new maps, monsters and new graphics.

The announcement promises five independent story quests with big bosses at the end of each and some sub Bosses guarding them. The quests are marked as high difficulty. More about the new quests and Bosses can be found here.

The Seventh Dragon is a browser based strategy MMO set in a vast, fantasy world of Asan. The game allow players to choose from three races, each with own unique set of units and specialties. Players can recruit heroes to battle for them against other players.
Construct your castle and buildings, produce resources, hire heroes and armies, equip them and conquer!

Races
Players can select between three playable races – Human, Elf or Undead. Each race has seven different unit types and the units get stronger after some time.
Humans – they worship light. Their units are Spearman, Archer, Griffin, Bishop, Swordsman, Knight and Angel.
Elves – they worship nature. Their units are Kentauros, Leprechaun, Elf Guard, Pegasus, Dryad, Unicorn and Green dragon.
Undead – their units are Skeleton, Zombie, Ghost, Vampire, Lich, Dark Knight and Dragon Zombie.
There are two more races listed on the official site but when I created my account they weren’t available for players. The two races are Devil and Neutral, each of them has seven different types of units.

Buildings
In The Seventh Dragon players can construct and upgrade buildings like Command Center, Warehouse, Tavern, Guildhall, Farmland and more. Buildings take some time to be constructed and only one building can be constructed at a time. The higher the level the longer its construction time is.

Quests and Help
The MMO has quite helping introducing tutorial-quests with in-game reward. Later in game, there is a quest-mission for defeating the Devil boss Kaberos and send him back to hell.

Heroes
Fighting, collecting and hunting can be accomplished only by dispatched heroes. The abilities of a hero affect the units. Heroes can be recruited from a Tavern. Higher level Tavern will offer more heroes of a time. Heroes level up from battles with Devil Castles, Monsters or other Players.

New players have protection against external attacks for nine days.

Yea, the idea behind the game units and development of the castles looks very similar to Heroes of Might and Magic series.

Aion Review

Aion is a fantasy MMORPG released by NCSoft. It features a vast and detailed fantasy world with incredible sceneries, odd creatures and great adventures.

Races / Factions
Aion world has two playable factions – Elyos and Asmodians.
The Elyos are bright people or the good ones. They are bright and beautiful people living in a bright and beautiful world. Their country is known as Elysea and their capital city is called Sanctum.
The Asmodians are the opposite of the Elyos, dark characters from a dark world. They are the “bad” guys if you like how it sounds. Their skin is pale or dusky and their eyes have a strange glow. Their world is called Asmodae and their capital city is Pandaemonium.

Classes
There are four primary classes at the game – Warrior, Mage, Scout and Priest. At level 10 players can choose a specialization. Warriors can become Gladiators (skilled with many different weapons) or Templars (use sword and shield combination and chants). Scouts can become Rangers (skilled with bow) or Assassins. Mages become Spirit Masters (summoners) or Sorcerer. Priest becomes Cleric (healer and resurrector, can be useful in melee battle with mice and shield) and Chanter (Buffer).

World / Story / Lore
The world of Aion is a devastated planet called Atreia. After a cataclysm Atreia was broken in half. Players start as inhabitants of their chosen world and don’t meet players from other fractions until they enter the abyss.

The Abyss
After spending some time leveling players can enter and fight in the Abyss. The Abyss is a PvP zone, where players must fight players from the opposite fraction. Players receive special points called Abyss Points for defeating players from the other race. The Abyss rank of the player is calculated according to these Abyss Points. Also special weapons and armors can be purchased with them.
The guild or clan equivalent in Aion is called Legion. Legions can control special fortresses in the Abyss. The control over a fortress is obtained after a siege war (mass PvP war) where players fight against another players or NPC characters.

Specifics
You can’t really experience PvP or dungeon fight until level 25-30. Also you have a quest story line and the quests are very important for your character development.

This is the new Aion trailer released recently by NCSoft. It is titled ‘Vision’ and shows some features that are not currently available in the popular MMO.
The description at the official site says “Take a glimpse into Atreia’s future with the Aion Vision Trailer!”.
Some of the features shown at the trailer are impressive weather system with snow, light chance, etc, house building, mounts and an underwater town.

Rakion is somewhat similar to most FPS or TPS with its game style. Rakion has many features similar to the classic MMORPG games like leveling up and experience gaining, summons, character customization and upgrades.

Summons / Cell System
Players can summon creatures using their CP (Cell Points). There are several types of summons and each of them has different specialties.

Transformations / Chaos System
In special circumstances players can transform their characters into different and powerful creatures. Most of the times you need to kill a number of monsters to transform. After the transformation your character becomes very strong, fights with new movements and groups of monsters aren’t an obstacle any more.

Classes
Available classes are Swordsman, Archer, Mage Blacksmith and Ninja. The Swordsman and the Blacksmith are melee characters capable of taking and making enormous amounts of damage. They are relatively easy for newbie players. For the short time I played this game till now I took a liking of the ninja. With multiple surikens thrown at a time and fast movements, it is quite a formidable damage dealer.

Warsow is an open-source, online FPS. The game is centered more at the gameplay and less at the graphics. The graphics are made intentionally plain and clear. The gameworld is the meeting point of the cartoon characters with the cyberpunk city.

Gameplay
Warsow is fast and when I say fast I mean really fast. New players may have difficulties at the beginning. Even veteran FPS players need some time to grasp the style and the speed. Despite that fact, the game is quite fun with many adrenaline bursts and hearth beat situations.
Online players tend to be way too good and merciless for newcomers like me. Combining series of movements and jumps with the fast speed of the game brings unique experience and excitement.

My rating: 9 from 10.
If you are Quake series fan, you will like this one too!

Eternal Lands is a free MMORPG game under development. It is not so well-known mainly because it is not developed by some large and multinational game development company but a small team.

I really enjoy this type of games – they are not so perfectly working but you can touch part of the game development process. You can visit the developers page and the forum to learn more.

In EL characters are not bond to a profession, they can learn any skill they like and change it anytime. Players can choose between six playable races: humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, orchans and draegoni. I didn’t find much visual difference between the races though.

Knight Online is a popular MMORPG developed by MGame Corporation. The game is free to play and download, but with some premium services. The site here is the US official, there are also two other servers – the Korean and the Japanese.
Knight Online is set in a fantasy world of magic, knights and battles. Right at the beginning you are thrown in the conflict between two enemy nations and you must choose a side!

The game has four starting classes – Warrior, Rogue, Mage and Priest. The first job change is at level 10.

Gameplay
At the beginning every new player starts with a mission to defeat one big worm and save his future virtual friend – Seed (or Max). Your virtual friend will help you with information and tips about the game world.
Leveling up is similar to most other games – players obtain experience through killing mobs and doing quests, obtain stats points per each level and develop their character with great deal of individuality.
If you want to level up faster in Knight Online it is better to start some quests and fight mobs while doing the quests. Also you can improve your weapons and armor through crafting.
The in-game currency is called Noahs. Players can obtain Noahs through killing monsters, doing quests, trading and so on.

PvP
The game offers often wars, castle sieges and other events. Players can duel other players from their nation and fight for National Points and Ladder Points players from the enemy nation.

Quests
The game has many quests – very similar to many other MMORPGs – kill n mobs or collect m items.

Downloading the game.
I personally don’t like games without own client hosting. They redirect you to some big file sharing sites with a lot of ads and spam/scam content. On the official site you see that your download must be something like 900mb and on the file hosting servers you see 400mb exe. And all of them store an exe with different size. All file hosting servers listed in the official game site. So which is the correct one? I don’t know.
This is not very pleasant approach for a serious company and game. I am not sure I can trust such game. Maybe I haven’t seen the exe on the official site? I don’t like this part ruining otherwise marvelous impression.

Overall impression
Knight Online is a very good game with cool PVP system and fascinating gameplay. Very fast it became one of my favorite games.

Metin2 is a MMORPG in an oriental style. It is a free to play and download game with Asian sceneries, cool warriors, powerful magicians and frightening martial artists.

Graphics and impression
The game features beautiful scenery graphics and the characters and mobs animations are relatively good. (There are some MMORPG with very poor animation of walking and fighting). The characters are not very customizable – you can’t choose anything but class and gender. The fighting animations are pretty cool – your character moves and fights making impression of a dance.

Gameplay
The game has a lot of missions. You can start doing quests right from the beginning. At level 5 you can choose your specialization for skills and weapons.

Mobs fight in groups, at high levels you will encounter aggressive mobs that attack you on sight. All classes can do area of effect (AoE) damage and the low levels are relatively easy. Leveling up is fast and fun. The quests give a lot of money, experience and bonuses so they worth their time.

PVP
You can join or create a guild and participate in Guild Fights. Any guild can take possession of one of the strongholds, hire and train NPCs to guard it.
Standard or non-standard PVP is available from level 15. You can ask people for Duel, fight players from another empire or select the "free" option from the PVP menu. The free option allows you to attack and to be attacked by any character in the game.

Classes

Warrior – melee character with heavy armor and a lot of strength. At level 5 they can specialize for better attack and speed or better deffence.
Ninja – high dexterity characters with light armor. Ninjas can specialize with bows or daggers. I am not sure why this class is called ninja not thief (it is like any other thief character in most of the MMORPGs.)
Sura – they combines long range magic with close range sword fight. At level 5 they can choose to specialize their long range spells or develop their close range fighting abilities.

Empires
In Metin2 the player meets a conflict between tree empires: Chunjo Empire, Shinsoo Empire and Jinno Empire. They fight for the domination over the continent, honor, glory and in-game bonuses.

Overall Impression
Metin2 is awesome MMORPG. Yes, there is some grinding but the game has a lot of quest and you can minimize it a lot.
