Many of you may have heard of UBUNTU, a linux kernel based operating
system. Recently they have released the latest stable version of
Ubuntu , called Intrepid Ibex.

Next friday there is a session on Ubuntu release. Usually it is called
a Release Party. Intersted persons are requested to register

An Article about Love by Swami Vivekananda

I once had a friend who grew to be very close to me. Once when we were sitting at the edge of a swimming pool, she filled the palm of her hand with some water and held it before me, and said this:

"You see this water carefully contained on my hand? It symbolizes Love."

This was how I saw it: As long as you keep your hand caringly open and allow it to remain there, it will always be there. However, if you attempt to close your fingers round it and try to posses it, it will spill through the first cracks it finds.

This is the greatest mistake that people do when they meet love...they try to posses it, they demand, they expect... and just like the water spilling out of your hand, love will retrieve from you .

For love is meant to be free, you cannot change its nature. If there are people you love, allow them to be free beings.

Give and don't expect. Advise, but don't order. Ask, but never demand.

It might sound simple, but it is a lesson that may take a lifetime to truly practice. It is the secret to true love. To truly practice it, you must sincerely feel no expectations from those who you love, and yet an unconditional caring."

DHAKA, Nov 12 (Reuters) - GSMA, the global trade body representing the mobile industry, called on Bangladesh to issue 3G licences soon to make broadband services more widely available.

Licensing the 2100 MHz spectrum band for 3G services would enable Bangladeshi operators to launch mobile broadband services, which their customers can use to gain fast and easy access to the Internet and online services, it said on Wednesday.

Bangladesh's mobile sector has grown rapidly, with user numbers reaching more than 45 million at end-September from 200,000 in 2001, while the country has only 1.32 million fixed-line phones.

"Laying new fixed-line connections is expensive and inefficient, so high-speed mobile networks are Bangladesh's best bet to realise the many social and economic benefits that arise from widespread access to broadband services," said Ricardo Tavares, senior vice president for public policy at the GSMA.

Analysts predict the number of subscribers could top 70 million by 2011, nearly half the country's population of more than 140 million people.

Many developing countries, including Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Kenya and South Africa, have already deployed mobile broadband services enabling their people to get easy access to information on health, education, job opportunities and agriculture.

There are six cellphone carriers in Bangladesh, including five foreign operators.

Grameenphone, controlled by Norway's Telenor (TEL.OL: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), leads the market with 20.82 million subscribers, followed by Egyptian company Orascom Telecom's ORTE.CA Banglalink, then AKtel, majority owned by Telekom Malaysia International (TLMM.KL: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz).

Although nearly half of the country's population is still below the poverty line, the country has been one of the world's fastest growing cellular markets. (Reporting by Ruma Paul, editing by Will Waterman)

The country's telecom regulatory body for the second time in a gap of
less than five months has further slashed the internal bandwidth
charges of submarine cable network by around 60 per cent.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BRTC) Monday
said the latest reduction of the internal bandwidth charges will help
to lower the cost of internet use in the country.

The commission officials said the new tariff rate that is to come into
force on December 1, will power the government's efforts to increase
the number of internet users' base deep into the countryside. The
government has set a target to increase the internet penetration to 30
per cent by 2011 from existing around one per cent.

Under the new tariff rate, monthly line rent (E1) of internal
bandwidth operators will be 200taka-250taka for 0-50 kilometer (km),
155taka -200taka for 51km-100 km, 120 taka -160 taka for 101km-200 km,
100 taka -130 taka for 201km-300km, and 75 taka -95 taka for 301km and
above distance.

The regulatory body has already instructed the six cellular phone
operators, Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) operators,
internet services providers (ISP) to reschedule their tariff rates in
line with the newly announced bandwidth charges by November 13.

The chairman of the BTRC Maj Gen (retd) Manjurul Alam has called upon
all stakeholders to ensure benefit of the lower rate for the mass people.

He said there is no other alternative than to make internet connection
available in rural areas at cheaper rate to eradicate poverty and
power economic growth of the country.

"I hope that the reduction of internal bandwidth charges will
contribute significantly in increasing the number of internet users
and broadband penetration," he expressed the hope.

However, the BTRC sources said the proposed national broadband
policy-2008, aimed at facilitating growth of high-speed Internet
services at affordable prices across the country, is at the final
stage to be approved advisory council.

They said chief adviser Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed has already reviewed the
draft national broadband policy-2008, which will also contribute in
expanding internet use.

আসিফের জন্য ভালোবাসা...

মাত্র দুই মাস আগেও আমরা এক সাথে ঘুরে বেরিয়েছি। কাম্প্যাসে চায়ের দোকানে চা খেতে খেতে আড্ডা মেরেছি, রাত্রি তিনটায় হাটতে হাটতে সূরমা ব্রীজের উপর উঠে নদীর শীতল বাতাস উপভোগ করেছি, কিংবা রাতভর কম্পিউটারে মোস্ট ওয়ান্টেড গেমসে পাল্লা লেগেছি... তখন ভাবতেও পারিনি আমাদের থেকে কেউ হারিয়ে যেতে পারে। জানতেও পারিনি আমাদেরই কারো শরীর এ বাসা বেধেছে মরনব্যাধি কান্স্যার!!!

আমাদের সহপাঠী সিভিল ইঞ্জিয়ারিং-এর দ্বিতীয় বর্ষের আসিফ আজ আমাদের সাথে নেই। দূরারোগ্য ক্যান্সার একটু একটু করে তার জীবন প্রদীপ নিভিয়ে দিচ্ছে। সুদুর সিংগাপুরের হস্পিটাল এর বেডে এ শুয়ে আসিফ আজ পাল্লা লড়ছে লিভার ক্যান্সার এর সাথে...

আসিফকে আমরা হারাতে চাই না! আসিফের চিকিত্ষার জন্য প্রয়োজন চল্লিশ লক্ষ টাকা । আমরা কি পারি না আসিফকে আবার প্রিয় ক্যাম্পাসে ফিরিয়ে আনতে???

উত্তর হয়তো পারি, কিন্তূ এ জন্য দরকার অনেক অনেক টাকা। আসিফের পরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে ইতিমধ্য প্রায় ২০ লক্ষ টাকা জোগাড় করা হয়েছে। আরো অনেক অনেক টাকার প্রয়োজন। টাকাটা কি আসলেই অনেক বেশি? শাহাজালাল বিজ্ঞান ও প্রযুক্তি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রায় সারে চার হাজার শিক্ষার্থী, আমরা কি পারি না আমাদের বন্ধুর জন্য এতটুকু করতে? আমরা কি এমন দুই হাজার হৃদয়বান মানুষকে খুজে বের করতে পারব না মাত্র এক হাজার টাকা করে দিতে পারবে? তাহলেইতো আসিফের চিকিত্ষার বাকি টাকাটা জোগার হয়ে যায়! আর যদি আমরা এমন চার হাজার মানুষকে খুজে বের করতে পারি তাহলে দরকার হিসেবটা আরো সহজ! মাত্র পাচশ!! পাচশ টাকা করে দান করতে পারবে এমন চার হাজার মানুষ কি পৃথিবীতে নেই? আমরা কি তাদের খুজে পাব না??

আসিফের জন্য আমাদের খুজতে হবে! তাই আমরা গত দুই দিন সিলেট শহরের বাড়ি বাড়ি ঘুরে সাহায্য চেয়েছি, খুজে বেরিয়েছি এমন মানুষদের! যে যে ভাবে পারে যতটুকু পারে, আসিফের জন্য আমরা টাকা জোগার করেছি। বার বার মনে হয়েছে আজ আসিফের মত বিপদে যদি আমি পরতাম? তাই সবাই মিলে আমরা আজ পথে নেমেছি। আসিফকে বাচাতে হবে! এত সহজে আমরা আসিফকে চলে যেতে দেব না।

আসিফ আবারো ফিরে আসবে আমাদের মাঝে! আমরা আবার এক সাথে ক্যাম্পাসে হেটে বেড়াব, চা খেতে খেতে চুটিয়ে আড্ডা মারব। রাতের বেলা হাটতে হাটতে হারিয়ে যাব সুরমার পাড়ে! নাহয় কম্পিউটারে ল্যান দিয়ে মোস্ট ওয়ান্টেড খেলতে খেলতে পার করে দেব সারা রাত!!!
