Now, there are plenty of people who do know a lot about computers, but there is so much stuff done in the background that makes everything work that it would be impossible for almost any corporation to have their other departments absorb the IT department. And if an IT department does their job right, then they are an asset. But as long as companies like MS keep changing their products every 3 years, then IT folks will be here for a long time.
