Its packed full of newly released cars, new parts, concepts and a massive array of memorobilia stands. This year it was bigger than ever with the introduction of the Pistonheads show which showcased some more performance car orientated products and machines rather than pure motorsport parts. I've been grinding and cutting on the rear axle casing for two whole nights now and I've cleaned up one end completely to the point where IBrynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-8670715088494468032007-12-03T23:03:00.000Z2007-12-03T23:07:39.983ZChop shop continues...Some more progress then. I've got all my nuts and bolts together so that I can mock the rear suspension up and as I thought I was going to run into problems with the trailing arms hitting the top of the Tiger chassis on upward strokes so there was nothing else for it but to completely chop off the rear section of the chassis to make way for a completely new tail end. I've managed to get 90% of the front suspension together for mock up purposes now, all that remains is the top ball joint. I need to find out what ball joint is used for the Cat E1 front rocker arms before I can set about finishing and tidying up the ball joint cups fixed in the Sierra hub carriers. It all started off well and I breezed through modifying the second seat frame for the passenger seat. I welded the whole lot up and bolted it to the seat, job done sorted. The next job was fitting tubing in the chassis to bolt the seats on to. I cut the tubes, stepped them so that they sat 15mm above floor level as per the drivers side but then Brynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-22137874821570496172007-11-10T18:22:00.000Z2007-11-10T19:06:30.409ZKitcar build upIts time to add some words and pictures for the kitcar build thats currently going on out in the garage. This is meant to be my engine fund for the drift car so I'm trying to put a reasonably spec'd kitcar together on a budget. The base kit is a Tiger Cat E1 that was sold to me as a barely started unfinished project almost three years ago but has taken a back seat whilst I worked on other things.Brynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-50908599301888443062007-11-04T15:11:00.000Z2007-11-04T23:07:58.664ZUpdate #2The most recent development in the whole build of the drift car is the engine plans. Now I had intended to stick with the Nissan SR20DET engine and rebuild it with a Tomei 2.2litre stroker crank, rods and pistons. However with that sort of spec it was going to cost a lot with the addition of all the other supported mods to be able to achieve my goal of ~500bhp. So I started looking at other Brynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-75436035806431567562007-11-04T14:25:00.000Z2007-11-04T23:07:28.015ZUpdate #1Time for an update? Yeh, about time too eh! Well quite a lot has happened since the last update way back in April so I'll do my best at bringing this site back up to date, here goes. First up was to add a firewall to the rear of the car between the passenger/cockpit area and the boot where all the fuel system components are kept. The panels had allready been cut and shaped previously but now it Brynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-23423547031065704342007-04-11T12:59:00.000Z2007-04-11T13:05:02.918ZR324 GTSR22 UpdateTime doesn't stand still so here's another update on progress. More paint has gone on the shell, mainly in the boot, on the rear arches and inside. Having allowed the paint to harden, parts were slowly bolted back on. This is the point where it starts to look like a car again rather than a mass of steel and a climbing frame. In light of this, here’s an update. The first piece of work done on the newly sandblasted and primed shell was to paint the engine bay. I decided to paint it in the brightest white that the local paint mixer could produce, funnily enough that turned out to be Nissan QM1 paint. So the engine bay was cleaned up, Brynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-5555987428611438632007-03-06T20:28:00.000Z2007-03-06T20:30:49.329ZR324 GTSR22 UpdateIts been a long time coming but at least its back, cleaned and in primer, just need to tidy a few bits up and add some filler in places, add some seam sealer and then get the paint guns out :) Followed my dad towing the car home: After a lot of lifting and juggling we managed to get the car back on its axle stands and back in its garage A couple of shots of how tidy it looks inside, notice Brynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-50190038088679265402007-03-03T13:02:00.000Z2007-03-03T13:43:07.830ZTom Pryce Memorial A fitting memorial for Tom Pryce, Wales' one and only Formula One driver who was tragically killed in South Africa on the 5th March 1977, is to be erected in his home town of Ruthin, North Wales. Tom Pryce has become one of the forgotten heros of F1 but people who knew him and saw him race realised that he was a special talent, a talent that would be taken too soon. Things are now progressing nicely. The R32 GTR looks sorry for itself under a layer of snow. Yesterday it was hidden under a light dusting of snow but with a packed exhaust tailpipe, today its been absolutely covered in the white stuff! Poor thing. Last week I realised that there was no real way of getting cool air from the front of the car around the v-mount to the turbo so I decided to scallop the nearside front wheel arch tub to gain clearance for some ducting. So there's now a hole in front of the nearside arch tub for a moulded ductBrynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-14899027740429110402007-01-29T21:43:00.000Z2007-02-04T19:43:43.488ZSXOC - January meetingWell I ventured over to meet up with a few of the SX Owners Club members in Cardiff yesterday to have a bit of a chat, a laugh and a few hotdogs at Ikea's hotdog and doughnut stand! It was a great turn out with a fair few 180sx's and 200sx's and even a couple of Skylines, the taff*tune R32 GTR included. A great afternoon was had by all and StuartUK even had Yetiboy fit his new induction kit to Brynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-45400190245206543342007-01-29T21:24:00.000Z2007-01-29T21:39:18.089ZR324 GTSR22 updateSince the last update on the R324, things have progressed with the car being fully stripped down to its bare shell with all the parts put away on various shelves and storage sheds at taff*tune. The next task was to clean off the sealant from the underside of the bodyshell and clean up all the seams ready for them to be stitch welded. Cleaning the seams is not a nice job as it involves burning Brynnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5198688924475242908.post-63036838513538247982007-01-03T20:50:00.001Z2007-01-29T21:24:03.547ZNew year updateSo, 2006 drew to a close with all the mock-up work having been carried out on the taff*tune R324 GTSR22. The car was fundamentaly complete with respect to the mechanical side of the chassis work. It was a fully rolling chassis as of boxing day and so it was rolled out of the garage for the first time to document the moment with a few photos: Brynnoreply@blogger.com
