High school student thought he was hooking up cheerleader, really his teacher

We don't take statutory rape lightly, except when it involves high school boys and hot young female teachers from Florida, so we are a bit unsure of what to make of this latest story.

A 14 year-old boy in Phoenix, Arizona had arranged via text message to meet a cheerleader for sex at a Best Western Hotel. When the boy arrived at the room, he was told to immediately close the door and turn off the lights. Sounds pretty good. However, during the love making, the lights were turned on revealing that he was not doing a cheerleader, but his 49 year old teacher (the pretty lady in the picture of above).

The following details are kind of awesome.

Though the woman is "pretty heavy" and the encounter definitely X-rated, the boy had no idea just what -- or who -- he was getting into, says sheriff's office spokeswoman Lisa Allen. At some point, the boy realized he'd been had by his own teacher. So he called his mom.

Man, what teenagers do to hook up with cheerleaders. I remember this one time I payed the prettiest, most popular girl at school a thousand dollars to date me. Only a funny thing happened, there was more to her, she wrote poetry and enjoyed my sense of humor. Halfway through the year, I let the popularity go to my head...o wait this is the plot of Can't Buy Me Love isn't it?

Maybe There is One too Many Bowl Games

You probably have seen reference to this story by now, but it's too amusing to not keep passing along. As of last week, the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl had only sold approximately 24 tickets, and that is not a misprint. The only reason it's approximate is that Maryland had to estimate its 16 tickets sold, while the University of Nevada knew it had sold exactly eight.

This is the bowl game integrity that the BCS system is trying to protect, right? If college football went to a playoff system, what would the family of eight from Nevada do during the holidays?

We'll avoid going off on a tangent about a college football playoff system, but let's try to figure out why the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl is struggling to sell tickets. Sure, it doesn't help having Boise State actually get invited to another bowl as it has this season, but why wouldn't you want to attend this game. This is how officials are trying to sell the game:

“The University of Nevada and the University of Maryland have two of the strongest football traditions in the nation,” said Kevin McDonald, executive director of the bowl. “Our fans should be in for a treat as both these teams have great athletes.

“This match-up will showcase college football’s most innovative and experienced coaches in the nation in Chris Ault and Ralph Friedgen,” said Kelly Rhinehart, president of Roady’s Truck Stops.

Even if that was remotely true, we still wouldn't visit Boise, ID. We aren't saying it's not an incredible place to visit, but we just checked the weather and it's currently 20 degrees. No thanks.

Brian Giles Facing $10 Million Lawsuit

The ex-girlfriend of San Diego Padres outfielder Brian Giles is suing him for more than $10 million, alleging he caused her miscarriage by beating her in 2002.

The lawsuit was filed by Cheri Olvera December 5 and reported by the San Diego Tribune on December 16. According to the Associated Press:

The lawsuit accuses him of hitting and slapping her in the face, shaking and kicking her, and battering her twice when she was pregnant with Giles' child.

Coincidentally, the alleged battery was occurring during the same time period of Giles' most productive seasons at the plate. From 1999-2002, he hit more than 35 HRs each year, while his other 10 seasons in MLB failed to produce anything more than 23 HRs in a single season. We'll let you take it from there.

While you might not find TSP anywhere near the top 100,000 on Alexa, we think the chances of us commanding those types of advertising rates with Mike Hampton's agent might be a possibility. Apparently his agent, Mark Rodgers, has a deal in place with the Houston Astros pending a physical.

We understand that Hampton had a great three years with the Astros, but that was 10 years ago and he has shown nothing since. Ask Atlanta what type of return it received after inheriting his 8-year, $120 million contract in year three from Colorado.

Do you miss your days on campus and want to relive your college experiences? Well, we can't really help you out there, but wearing your schools scent might create some nostalgia. Penn State is one of two schools currently available from the Masik Collegiate Fragrances collection. We've never been to Penn State's campus, so we aren't quite sure what it would smell like. We're thinking something like our grandparents' old house. After all, JoePa is Penn State, right?

Auburn head coach Tommy Tubberville was holding up seven fingers as he entered Bryant-Denny Stadium to play #1 Alabama on Saturday. You have to give the man credit for his confidence but not much can be said for his intelligence or use of tact. For those that aren't familiar with the rivalry, the Tigers had beaten Alabama six straight times before being blown out 36-0 and Tubberville was predicting the seventh. Ironically, Auburn left Tuscaloosa with its seventh loss of the year instead.

As the college football regular season winds down, no team has been adored by the media like the Florida Gators. While they have looked as talented as anyone in the country, we still think they are very beatable. With Florida State and then Alabama in the SEC Championship, the Gators will have its work cut out.

Just in case this two game stretch isn't enough to bring Florida fans down to Earth, maybe a history of their association with jean shorts, or jorts, will do the trick. The Orlando Sentinel revisited the origin of the insult that has become the favorite amongst Florida's rival fans. A 32-year-old Georgia alum Kevin Davis, who is now a lawyer, claims to have began the phrase "Gators wear jean shorts" at the Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville in 1997.

"Unfortunately, I thought I was doing the world a service by trying to get rid of jean shorts," says Davis, the inventor of the jorts insult. "But now Florida fans wear them with pride."

Only Two Weeks In, but Three Teams Impress

We aren't even through a full month of college basketball, so you might think it's a little premature to start separating contenders from pretenders. However, the early season does provide us with some high-profile non-conference games in these tip off tournaments. While we haven't been able to watch the entire top 25 play, there have been three teams that we feel could be around in late March. Keep in mind that it's not necessary to bring up the Tarheels, who are playing at a higher level than anyone else.

Notre Dame - This seems to be an obvious selection after beating 7th ranked Texas, but there we're not sure how many people actually think that the Irish are legit. They've been such an up and down team the last five years, but this team has a great starting five and the chemistry seems to be there early on. The Irish rely on the three but have enough shooters to avoid an off night, led by the confident Tory Jackson. Hopefully, North Carolina won't make us regret our opinion tonight.

Oklahoma - Blake Griffin has been a beast through four games, averaging 26 ppg and just under 20 rpg. He's been unstoppable on both ends of the floor, while his brother, Taylor, has quietly been contributing as well. The Sooners play solid defense and wouldn't be a surprise to win the Big 12 this season.

Syracuse - The Orange took home the CBE Classic Championship Tuesday defeating 18th-ranked Florida and defending-champion Kansas on back-to-back nights. They've done so behind the superb play of sophomore Jonny Flynn, who had 25 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals in the win over the Jayhawks. This squad has looked unselfish thus far, and might just be a better team without Donte Green, who was a first round NBA selection after just one season in college.

It's likely you haven't seen this box score from a NCAA Division II playoff game on Saturday. Abilene Christian University and West Texas A&M broke or tied 44 school or NCAA records.
