He has recently got married and had a seperate drinks a few weeks later in London as an extra celebration. Great to catch up with him and his wife, lots of good wine and great cup cakes (they cleverly got these rather than another wedding cake and they were great). So what did I do to show him a different side of town? Well we headed on an East London art walk. I am now becoming a bit of a regular at these events, but they are great. Some of the art was not so great though this time but I did particularly enjoy Oscar Munoz at Iniva - Image above. I know the final night is tonight but I had other plans for this weekend. In true GAY style it was cheesy and pretty awful but lots of good fun. Anyways i normally say I hate the place and i know that there are loads of better places for a night out but it is still a little sad. This was aided by Chris and Beck's kittens. They are great. Here are a few of them all posing (with owners). Oh, and a little video!! To see all the pics from the weekend click here. So on the Saturday we thought it would be fun to tackle this - Mam Tor. I have to say it is a lovely looking hill just near Castleton. Mum, John and Sue (Richard's mum) all sang in the Verdi Requiem at the Cadogan Hall last weekend and it was a great success. I think we had nearly 700 people watching us and the hall felt nearly full. I had a great time and hope we can play more concerts there. Otherwise last week was a little quieter. Anyways I feel like i don't have that much to say about this book. Yes I enjoyed it but sadly only a week or so after finishing it I don't feel I can remember much about it. So a great lasting impression then. I was full of a cold on Friday but gradually I have recovered. On Friday on arrival into Newcastle we headed to the Baltic Museum. Richard and I particularly enjoyed two of the exhibitions. I missed the discussion but thought that the book was amazing. Strange and bizarre with lots of magic. Anyways this last weekend Richard and I went to Stokefest. Maybe I am getting old but it was awful. Too hot, too many people and too loud. I am slightly shocked by how negative I felt about it. It was the first time I had been there and my first impressions were really good i.e. nice bar, small intimate venue etc. So how was it. Well it was just a bit over the top and too hot. She was briefly in town, over from Australia to go to a conference in Bonn. It was great to see her on this flying visit. We met in the Crown and Sceptre pub, on Foley street, near Oxford circus, however it was not dealing with the rain very well. Very wet and so it meant I felt justified in doing very little. However you know me I cannot just sit and do nothing. So Saturday Richard and I went on a bike ride through the Lee Valley to Walthamstow. The only thing I knew about the place before Saturday was the dog track and that is apparently now closing. I have to say I really enjoyed it. I was worried that it was going to be completely jam packed and to use a Richard saying - hell on wheels. It was busy but we managed to see almost all the gardens in a very untraumatic way. Some very impressive, some a bit tacky but overall a great spectacle. Here are a few picks. The Tivoli nightclub in Buckley (near Mold) is up for sale and may close. I may have not been there for years but a closure of my favourite six form hangout would be the end of an era. Plus what will the Gwernymynydd and Mold youngsters do now. The nearest dancefloor otherwise would be probably Chester? On Friday night we headed to Ipswich to see Pam Ann. For those of you who don't know she is a bitchy Australian comedian who's show is based around flight attendants. It is pretty funny and I did enjoy myself though it was a bit weird to see stand up in a venue (the Regent theatre) more or less the size of Brixton Academy. I am just sorry I had not discovered them or Alan Bennett before (I know you are going to think how could I have missed them). Have just bought the biography and intend to read a whole lot more. Anyways just when you thought that Hackney was becoming safety central there is a little news story to break the lull. On Thursday a teenager was shot in London fields and two others stabbed.
