EDINBURGH'S GAME AND COUNTRY FAIR

ENJOY a jam-packed programme of events with something for all the family in the stunning grounds of the magnificent Hopetoun House near Edinburgh when it plays host to a Game and Country Fair on Saturday 20 September and Sunday 21 September 2008.

There will be a host of top attractions with something to keep everyone entertained from the moment they arrive at Hopetoun House, one of the most splendid examples of Georgian architecture in Britain and is regarded as Scotland’s Finest Stately Home.

A packed arena programme will feature a sheepdog display, gundog demonstration and falconry displays.

Youngsters and adults alike can try their hand at archery, marvel at the owls, watch the art of sheep shearing, see and learn about rural crafts by watching demonstrations including willow weaving, rod making and woodcarving or have a go at fly casting.

Try your hand at clay pigeon shooting or fire an air gun at targets in competitions running throughout the weekend or budding Robin Hood’s can learn the art of archery. Whatever people’s ability there will be various challenges for them to pit their wits from beginners to expert level.

Cheer on the terriers and lurchers as they race to the finish line in races taking place throughout the weekend organised by the Chairman of the Association of Lurcher Clubs, Alan Tyer.

And ferrets will also get the chance to go for glory too in the ferret races or why not enter your pets into the organised shows for lurchers, terriers and ferrets.

Adrian Slater, a member of the England Gun Dog Team who impressed audiences at Crufts with his marvelous dog handling, will be wowing the crowds with a gun dog demonstration and scurry as well as giving tips on training even the most difficult dogs.

People can indulge in some retail therapy at Edinburgh Game and Country Fair too where there are more than 100 trade stands offer something for everyone.

But the event is not just a feast for people’s eyes but their stomachs too. Throughout the weekend there will be a fine food marquee selling an array of the best produce from around the country. And Kevin Roxby from County Durham game suppliers Rushyford Game, who has cooked alongside celebrity chefs James Martin, Antony Worrall Thompson and Aldo Zilli, will be tickling people’s taste buds during his cookery demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday too.

There will also be a large craft marquee with demonstrations taking place throughout the two days, quad bike rides for the children and a vintage fairground to keep both the young and young at heart amused.

And while taking in all of the sights and sounds the licensed bar and catering outlets will be serving up refreshments.

Tickets are priced adults £8, over 65s £7, under 16s £3 and a family ticket admitting two adults and up to three children costs £20.

Leeds Steam Spectacular - This Bank Holiday

One of the great historic estates in England, Temple Newsam, will once again host Leeds Steam Spectacular. In its 25th Year the event is Leeds' biggest steam show, taking place on Sunday 24^th August and Monday 25^th August.

There will be a host of top attractions with something to keep the whole family entertained from the moment they arrive in the stunning grounds of Temple Newsam.

There will be 20 Steam Engines and a number of Fairground Organs, Hundreds and Hundreds of Vintage Cars & Commercials (Lorries, Buses etc.), Classic Motorcycles and Vintage Tractors. These exhibits will have static positions around the event but also participate in main arena parades. There will also be the opportunity to help drive a steam engine ! An action packed arena programme will commence at 11am and run until 5pm.

People can indulge in some retail therapy at Leeds Steam Spectacular too where there are trade stands offering something for everyone. Astle Park this weekend

Astle Park is to host its Annual Steam Fair on Saturday 9^th and Sunday 10^th August.

Astle Park is the venue for Cheshire’s biggest steam and vintage event this weekend running a huge display of exhibits coming from all over the UK. There will be 30 Steam Engines and a number of Fairground Organs, Hundreds and Hundreds of Vintage Cars & Commercials (Lorries, Buses etc.), Classic Motorcycles and Vintage Tractors. This exciting day out has plenty for children with both old time and modern funfairs, quad rides, puppet show, a giant inflatable, climbing wall and trampolines.

Saturday evening sees a fantastic firework spectacular as well as a male duo band playing in the beer tent.

Astle Park is located 1 mile south-west of Chelford on the A535.

Gates open at 10am and close at 11pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday. Admission prices are £6 for adults, £5 for over 65’s, £3 for under 16’s and £15 for a family (2 adults and up to 3 children.) Under 5’s are free. Overnight camping is also available.

ANNUAL PICKERING TRACTION ENGINE RALLY

THE biggest line of showman’s engines and large fairground organs ever seen in the North of England is set to steam their way into Pickering.

Pickering Showground is hosting its 56th annual Pickering Traction Engine Rally with attractions for the whole family on 31^st July, 1^st 2^nd 3^rd August.

There’s lots of fun for children with entertainers, magicians, punch and judy, bouncy castles, climbing wall and quad bike rides.

And young and old alike can enjoy all the fun of the fair with steam driven gallopers, steam yachts, cakewalk, a lighthouse helter skelter, wall of death and a big wheel plus all the latest white knuckle rides.

There will be more than 1000 vintage classic cars, commercials and motorcycles and a host of continuous arena attractions in 3 main arenas, three live stage shows and live bands to entertain the crowds.

People can also browse the trade stands, craft marquee, model tent, army displays and exhibitions, and there will be licensed cider and real ale bars for some well deserved refreshment.

And for the enthusiasts there are over 100 full size traction engines, 400 vintage tractors, heavy haulage and road engines, steam rollers, steam lorries, steam threshing and ploughing demonstrations, 70 miniature steam traction engines and a huge autojumble and collectors market.

Pickering Traction Engine Rally is not just a feast for people’s eyes but their stomachs too. Throughout the weekend there will be a fine food marquee selling an array of the best produce from around the country.

A firework display on Saturday evening from 6pm to 10pm will help the whole event go with a bang. A host of Bands will be performing on the stages within the various bar areas. The MerseyBeat Legends headline the main stage on Saturday evening. The MerseyBeat Legends are a brilliant live tribute to the 60's Mersey sound, with a play list including hits by The Searchers, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Freddie & The Dreamers, The Fourmost, The Swinging Blue Jeans, and of course The Beatles. CELEBRITY CHEFS SET TO BE STAR ATTRACTION AT PICKERING SHOWGROUND’S GAME & COUNTRY FAIR

Internationally renowned chefs Antony Worrall Thompson and Aldo Zilli will be the stars of the show at Pickering Showground’s annual Game and Country Fair.

The Northern Events Arena, one mile south of the town of Pickering, North Yorkshire, is hosting the fair, which is in its 5^th year on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the event which offers a vast array of attractions with something to please the whole family and keep everyone amused.

On Saturday Antony Worrall Thompson will prepare tantalizing meals in three cookery demonstrations throughout the day. Antony will be given a helping hand by fellow celebrity chef James Martin’s mentor Ken Allanson and Alan Ellis from County Durham game supplier’s Rushyford Game.

While on Sunday it will be the turn of Aldo Zilli, the charismatic Italian restraunter and ITV1 Celebrity Fit Club star who will be getting his creative juices flowing to tickle people’s taste buds. He will be assisted by Andrew Pern, the head chef at the Michelin starred restaurant, the Star Inn at Harome near Helmsley, with more help from Alan Ellis.

An enormous food hall selling an array of the best produce and products from the Yorkshire region as well as delicacies from the rest of the country completes the line up for this huge festival of food.

But Pickering Game and Country Fair is not just a feast for the stomach, it will but a feast for people’s eyes too.

A packed arena programme will begin at 10am featuring a sheepdog display, gundog demonstration, falconry displays, heavy horse demonstrations and Mounted Games Association displays to name just a few.

Also on offer will be the chance to try your hand at archery, see birds of prey, watch a sheep shearing show, vintage tractors, rural crafts and demonstrations of stick making and willow weaving.

There will be hundreds of trade stands, a large craft marquee a vintage fairground to keep the young and young at heart entertained, a licensed bar and plenty of catering outlets too.

The Mounted Games Association, a fast moving and action-packed equestrian relay competition, will be holding their Home International Championship over the weekend at the showground with teams taking part representing Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, North of England and South of England. Local girl Melanie Ardern, who is a member of the Yorkshire team, will be representing the North of England in the challenge as they attempt to scoop the title for the fifth year in a row.

An added attraction for this year will be a Shire Horse Show taking place on Saturday. The event will be open to any heavy breed and is being sponsored by Sheffield based transport Engineers, A.Couldwell & Sons. Prize money and rosettes will be presented at 4pm.

A national clay pigeon shooting competition and air rifle competition will be taking place and people will also be able to have a go at various challenges from each discipline from beginners to expert levels.

Watch the terriers, lurchers and ferrets race to the finish line at races in the morning and afternoon. Entries can be made on the day so why not bring along your furry friends to compete.

On the banks of the showground’s own lake, Roy Baker will be giving fly casting tuition or

why not watch the fast-moving Gundog Scurry Championship.

Whether it’s a specialist interest you have or simply fancy a day out with something for young and old alike, a visit to the Pickering Game and Country Fair 2008 is not to be missed.

Pickering Folk Festival Launched

The Events Office of Pickering will be staging their own first ever major music festival when the Pickering Folk Festival takes place on the showground during the weekend of August 8th, 9th and 10th of this year. Forty acts will be performing on two stages including major headliners for each of the three days. There will be many other events taking place including children's entertainment, circus skills workshops, face painting, ceilidhs and morris dancing. As well as a large trade and craft fair there will be a host of catering options to suit most tastes. The local Cropton Brewery will be hosting festival goers in the beer tent where additional performance will also take place by some of the funniest people on the folk scene including the inimitable Les Barker.

The music itself is of the highest quality and features some of the most talented and well known names in the world of folk music. Names such as Cara Dillon, Luka Bloom, Coope Boyes & Simpson, Last Night's Fun and Johnny Dickinson will be appearing over the weekend. North Yorkshire too is strongly represented with local acts Eliza Carthy Band, Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick and Steve Phillips & The Rough Diamonds all securing prime spots on the main stage. But the real coup for The Events Office was to be able to put number one chart toppers The Waterboys, Eddi Reader and Nizlopi at the top of the bill on each day.

Now in their silver jubilee year, The Waterboys have been at the forefront of many styles of music over the years thanks to the ever changing mood of their perenial front man Mike Scott. From the huge stadium rock sound of their best selling 1985 album This Is The Sea to their dalliance with Irish traditional music on the album Fisherman's Blues, Mike Scott has kept the band at the top of their game with floods of new fans hooking up every year. Most people will know the classics The Whole Of The Moon and Fisherman's Blues but with a wealth of material to call upon from his thirteen studio albums, Scott will have no problem keeping punters rocking in the aisles on the Friday night.

A more sedate affair can be expected on Saturday evening when Eddi Reader takes centre stage with her band of talented musicians. Best known in her early days for being lead singer with Fairground Attraction and their number one single Perfect, Reader has matured into one of the most beautiful singers in Britain today. Her most recent album Peacetime bears this out.

The closing act sees Nizlopi headlining the main stage at the festival. Famous for their 2005 number one single The JCB song, these two lads proved that you don't have to belong to one of the majors to be able to crack the charts as sales reached 400,000 in Britain and Ireland alone. The JCB song was a great song but Luke Concannon and John Parker are about so much more than a novelty song at Christmas. Soulful vocals, superb guitar and double bass playing and the odd human beatbox thrown in is guaranteed to keep everyone happy for an hour and a half on the Sunday evening.

Pickering Folk Festival will bring thousands of visitors to the town over the weekend and will put the Pickering Showground on the map as a serious music venue. Local businesses in Pickering and Malton will benefit from the extra trade and local people will be able to enjoy a weekend of quality entertainment. A variety of ticket options are available depending on your needs. Full weekend season tickets are the best option as, besides the level of entertainment, you'll be able to camp out too and have your own little holiday without leaving the town. SHOWGROUND'S TRUCKEAST

ENTERTAINMENT and attractions for all the family are on offer at Pickering
Showground's Truckeast next month.
Truckeast on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September is a must for fans of trucks
and there will be more than 300 custom, working, American and vintage trucks
and mni monster trucks for enthusiasts to cast their eyes over.
But the event is just not about trucks - there are a host of other
attractions to see including truck dealers promoting their vehicles,
specialist trade stands and a craft and fine food tent. Youngsters can test
their skill on the quad bike rides and have fun on the bouncy castle,
climbing wall and fairground and there is a licensed bar and various
catering outlets to recharge while taking in all of the action.
One attraction which is set to wow the crowds are the Royal Artillery Flying
Gunners Motorcycle Display Team.

television shows including the National Lottery Show, Noel Edmond's House
Party, Lenny Henry Show, Blue Peter and the Brian Conley Show.
On Sunday there will also be a guest appearance by Bianca Gascoigne – winner
of ITV1's celebrity reality show Love Island and there will be opportunities
throughout the day for fans to have their picture taken with her.
Winners of classes in Truckeast will be presented with their trophies by
Bianca Gascoigne in an awards ceremony at 4pm on Sunday.
Gates open at 10am and the event is on until 5pm each day

One of the greatest historic estates in England is set to be transformed
into a carnival atmosphere as Temple Newsam hosts Leeds Steam Spectacular on
Sunday 26 and Monday 27 August. The event which is in its 24th successful
year is the city's biggest steam show. There are host of attractions
including puffing steam Engines, fairground organs, army displays, classic
cars and motorcycles, vintage Tractors and displays for people to visit.
Visitors will enjoy browsing around the trade stands and craft and fine food
tents with a wealth of gifts and delicacies to taste, buy and take home to
try. Families will enjoy the thrills and spills in the main area including
birds of prey from Ridgeside Falconry - the largest falconry display team in
the country. Kids will love the jam-packed entertainment on offer including
a children's corner, funfair, bouncy castle, punch and judy, laser paintball
arena, trampolines, quad bikes and a climbing wall. One performance which is
sure to wow the crowds are the Royal Artillery Flying Gunners Motorcycle

PICKERING 55TH ANNUAL TRACTION ENGINE RALLY 2007

THE biggest line of showman's engines and large fairground organs ever seen
in the North of England is set to steam their way into Pickering next
weekend.
Pickering Showground is hosting its 55th annual Pickering Traction Engine
Rally with attractions for the whole family on 2, 3, 4 and 5 August.
There's lots of fun for children with entertainers, punch and judy, quads
and an indoor disco from 6pm to 7pm each day.
And young and old alike can enjoy all the fun of the fair with steam driven
gallopers, steam yachts, cakewalk, a lighthouse helter skelter, a wall of
death and a big wheel plus all the latest white knuckle rides.
There will be more than 1000 vintage classic cars, commercials and
motorcycles and a host of continuous arena attractions, three live stage
shows and live bands to entertain the crowds.
People can also browse the trade stands, craft marquee, model tent, army
displays and exhibitions, and there will be licensed cider and real ale bars
for some well deserved refreshment.
And for the enthusiasts there are over 100 full size traction engines, 400
vintage tractors,heavy haulage and road engines, steam rollers, steam
lorries, steam threshing and ploughing demonstrations, 70 miniature steam
traction engines and a huge autojumble and collectors market.
A firework display on Saturday evening from 6pm to 10pm will help the whole
event go with a bang.
Entrance costs £8 adults, over 65s, under 16s £4 and under fives get in
free.
A family ticket admitting two adults and three children costs £20. Camping
is available.
Opening times are 10am to 6pm on 2 August, 9am to 6pm on 3 and 4 August
while the steam fair on 3 August is open 6pm to 10pm and 9am to 5pm on 5
August.

We are pleased to confirm that the Burrell Scenic Showmans Engine 'Lord
Lascelles' makes its first appearance under new owner Alan Williams.

Also Neil Corners Gavioli (ex Tom Nicholson) will be appearing on a rally
field for the first time in 8 years.

An extra 28 acre field has been added to the show area to accommodate the
record number of entries for 2007.

Cheshire Steam Fair - Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July 2007

Once again the surrounding weather has had the public and exhibitors worried
as to whether the event will take place.

We are pleased to announce that Cheshire Steam Fair is definately going
ahead. Conditions on site on Thursday during the 'marking-out' of the event
were good with only a few wet areas. There has been overnight rain on
Thursday and it is raining today, but the forecast for Saturday and Sunday
is good.

Update from site at 13.00hrs (Friday 13th) is the ground is holding up well.

Bring on the sunshine and bring in the visitors for an excellent weekend!!

Clumber Park Steam & Country Fair - June 30th July 1st 2007

Clumber Steam & Country Fair is definately taking place this weekend despite
the adverse weather in the surrounding area. Feedback from our events team
on site at 10am today (Friday 29th June) is the ground is firm and the
weather sunny.

Richard Ashworth the Event Manager says the ground is very well drained and
sandy and on his arrival to mark the event out on Wednesday could not
believe how good the ground conditions were.

An abundance of attractions will be present at this new event for 2007 so
get yourself to clumber Park for a great Family Day Out!

Gates open 10am

Adults £6.00, Concessions £5.00, U16's FOC.

A charge of £4.50 per car will be made at the entrance to Clumber Park to
all non National Trust members. All visitors to the Steam & Country Fair
will be reimbursed this charge on entry to the fair when they hand over
their token. (The £4.50 charge is a National Trust charge).

The Flying Gunners to appear at Leeds Steam Spectacular

The first arena attraction to be confirmed at Leeds Steam Spectacular is the
'Flying Gunners'. The display combines breathtaking high speed double
crossovers from four corners of the arena when closing speeds may reach
90mph, with shows of the individual and combined skill which include amazing
feats of balance, machine control, team work and courage. In the
intermediate ride, the movements are carried out at very high speeds over
ramps, with riders crossing in mid-air inches apart. The climax of the show
is a spectacular car jump over four cars or more.
