Et alternativt forslag til plakaten for min udstilling i Galleri Lisse Bruun om lige om lidt. Her er der lidt mere maleri, og titlen er blevet lidt mere fordansket. Trods alt kommer der nok ikke så forfærdeligt mange fra det store udland og kigger. Billedudsnittet er fra et af de nyeste malerier, ét der ikke er færdigt endnu. Så måske har farven på dét en helt anden lyd, når vi når til den 20. august… Kan egentlig ret godt li' den sort/hvide kontrast – står godt til de gamle "wild west"–skrifttyper, selvom det jo dengang var dem der var sorte.

Skal udstille i Galleri Lisse Bruun fra den 20. august. Separat. Nye malerier, collager – og en lille håndfuld billeder fra for et par år siden, som aldrig er udstillet før. I hvert fald – det er hvad det tegner til på nuværende tidspunkt. Herover er det første hurtige udkast til en udstillingsplakat og –titel. Måske ender den sådan. Hvad synes du?

Hvornår smager en Carlsberg bedst?

Sidste chance for at se ALICE i DANSEhallerne

Så er det ved at være sidste chance: Der er er to forestillinger tilbage af Juniorkompagniets 10 års jubilæumsforestilling "Alice" med koreografi af Martin Forsberg.
__Dansescenen skriver om forestillingen: "En billedrejse gennem underverdenen. Hurtige kaniner, skæve katte og levende labyrinter. Forskydninger og eventyr. En Alice som du aldrig har set tidligere". __Og det er rigtigt – det er fascinerende moderne danseteater. Skynd dig: Fredag 19/6 og lørdag 20/6, begge dage kl. 19 er sidste mulighed for at se de 30 dansere fra Juniorkompagniet og Væksthuset i de nye omgivelser i carlsbergs gamle tappehaller.

Had almost forgotten – but we had another great trip to Finland four years ago. Not least the boat trip from Helsinki (only serving on board: Koskenkorva and a few very small sandwiches) to Nokia – "the place where it all began" – that great Finnish adventure into mobile phones. PlanetStar took this cute photo in between two Finnish drinking songs …

At long last – the slides from my SNDS Oulu presentation about art and design are finally published here for those of you who missed it in Oulu. All the slides are here, but you will miss my sweet talk accompanying and/or explaining the images, and you will also miss the three minute long self-running music video at the end, showing a lot more Girls Girls Girls than I have included here. Eva Lone and Eagles

On Friday, 29 May, Eva Lone and I caught the afternoon train and headed for Malmö Arena and the kick off of the Eagles' Long Road Out of Eden 2009 Tour – and enjoyed every minute of it. Even standing in the middle behind both small and tall people, evading loose draught beer in the plastic glass of half drunken people in front, and – not least – the fabulous guitar solos from the youngish (if not exactly young, anymore) members of the band. Vernissage Galleri Lisse Bruun

Tine Bech on the fourth floor

Danish artist Tine Bech is one of eight international artists in the exhibition Safe to Touch which will open on Friday 22 May at the Hub: National Centre for Craft & Design, in Sleaford, Lincolnshire. The artists are all actively involved in the sphere of what we can loosely label ‘the tactile’ turning the traditional ‘do not touch’ gallery rule upside down – inviting the visitor to touch, participate, explore and reconsider their conditioned behaviour and boundaries.
Tine Bech, whose work "Tumbleweed" is shown on the poster (left) "plays with the ambiguity of uncanny objects, directly involving, even obliging, the visitors to confront their initial feeling of repulsion".

Type in Oulu

During the days at the SNDS seminar in Oulu, I found time to point the camera at typography in the city. Forget about interactivity here: Lean back and take a pause for a few moments, and get fascinated by the self-running slides which include traffic signs, a shop logo that looks like a cross between a ©-sign and a registered trademark sign, my new Swatch (bought in Helsinki Airport) and others …

My presentation in Oulu

I did it! Made my presentation, even within the scheduled 30 minutes, at the SNDS conference in Oulu this Friday afternoon. Here are a few shots from the presentration, me showing and telling the story of a poster for Galleri Lisse Bruun (exhibition is still on!), a spread in '24timer', and a spread I made recently for the international SND publication 'Design'. Scroll down this blog, and you can see both spreads a little clearrer. There were lots of great presentations in Oulu – the most northern place an SNDS seminar has been held ever. SNDS - Swedish gold in Scandinavian news design

The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter recieved the only gold medal for good news design at the annual Scandinavia news design conference hosted by Society of News Design Scandinavia, which took places in Oulu in the northern part of Finland Friday. Dagens Nyheter earned the gold award for its redesign of the supplement "På Stan", which has been shrinked from tabloid to a format close to A5.
71 Scandinavian media houses were represented in the contest. Other than the gold medal 16 silver diplomas, 17 bronze diplomas and 36 awards of excellence were handed out at the conference.

Etanapannu – Finnish word of the day

So, I've landed in Oulu, city of Mieskoro Huutajat, the Air Guitar World Championship, and the site for this year's SNDS design conference. The temperature is 5 degrees below Copenhagen, at least in the evening, although the sun does not set until close to 11pm. Strange to walk home to the hotel in broad daylight in the evening. Meetings until 6.30pm, dinner at Sokeri-Jussin ("Sugar-Ray") Kievari Restaurant, having escargots in garlic butter and a beer. I passed on the reindeer – I want presents for Christmas …

Oulu presentation ready!

Yes! I have finally finished the presentation for Oulu – the annual SNDS conference where I will be speaking about "News design and fine art side by side". See the trailer here – and if you're in Oulu on Friday, join the party at 3pm.
__Finding images for the presentation has been a great trip down memory lane – as I have tried to find examples of my work both from recent years and from back in the 80'ies and 90'ies. I draw two conclusions from the trip; one is that it was good to see the old work again, the other, that paintings and graphic design have always been there, side by side. But I had already guessed that.

Pryds Drawing in 24timer

Something very unusual happened today: 24timer hit the streets with a drawing of mine on the pages. Newspapers are not all clipart and computer generated designs – once in a while the old colour pencils and chalks come to life. This one is about how we can use the new light bulbs that save electricity, but give a completely different light in the house. See more at 24.dk (it's on page 6-7).

Pryds Creativity Piece in Design Magazine

The fall/winter issue of Design magazine has landed on my doormat – and on doormats of subscribers all over the world. Design is published quarterly by the international organization Society for News Design, and the theme for this special double issue is "Hitting the reset button". Editor Jonathon Berlin asked me to write a piece about rebooting creativity, and I sent him the spread shown above – a package including both text, illustration and page design, with the title, "Six Simple Tricks to Keep Your Pencil Sharp". The spread was kindly included on page 16-17 in the 'reset section', which also feature great articles by Joe Grimm, Vladdo, Sarah Slobin, Roger Black, Mike Swartz and SND President Matt Mansfield. __The magazine cover (shown right) is a wonderful collage inspired by Rodin's "The Thinker", Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel , and – Apple's reset button.
__One element from my illustration (the pin-up girl, of course, see below) is also used on the contents page; which means that one of the points I make on the spread – finding something to grab the reader's attention – actually works.
__Amazing, by the way, to se my name spelled in three different ways in one magazine (Pyrds, Prdys, and Pryds – the latter being the right way). But then again, nobody's perfect, and I guess it's probably even more difficult to pronounce correctly …

Store Formater ("Large Formats") will open in Copenhagen on Thursday, and this is what I will show: 1.4 m high, 2 m wide, entitled "Black and White / Simone Does Her Hair". Is this really possible? I know Manzoni canned and successfully sold his personal shit back in 1961, but that it should be possible to register shit as such as a trademark is amazing. Saw this on a traffic light just outside my house today (it's our building in the background, actually…)

From 3 May, VærkstedsGalleriet in Kerteminde hosts the exhibition "Til Pyntens Pris" – "Homage to Decoration".
Paulette Adam, Lisbeth Degn and Lisbeth Tolstrup, the three girls behind the working partnership and publishing company FiberFeber, will exhibit textile ornaments and other accessories from their book "Til Pyntens Pris", as well as new works and ideas the three have developped sine the publication of the 112 page book, a few months ago.
Welcome to the vernissage: Sunday 3 May 2009, 1pm-2pm.
The three Fiber-Chicks will be present to sign copies of the book and demonstrate their working techniques.

Allan Axelsen er ikke alene på væggene i galleriet: I alt 27 kunstnere udstiller hver tre værker, som max. måler 40x40 cm. Udstillingen markerer samtidig overdragelsen af galleriet, der tidligere hed Galleri Kellum, til den nye ejer, Claus Christoffersen, der skal løfte arven fra Ulla Kellum.
