BMW ha comenzado a comercializar la nueva edición especial de MINI Cooper denominada Earl Grey, la cual forma parte de las celebraciones que la marca británica viene haciendo con motivo de su 50 aniversario.

En cuanto a su mecánica, esta edición especial conserva las mismas características del MINI Cooper. Un motor de 4 cilindros, que desarrolla unos 120 CVde potencia máxima y 160 Nm de torque. Solamente se diferencia en varios detalles estéticos.

En su estética nos encontramos con un color de carrocería denominado Dark Silver, (un tono plata oscuro que por primera vez nos encontramos en un Mini Cooper) con unas franjas a los costados. También se podrá optar por un color negro o gris. Las llantas son de 17 pulgadas, y están pintadas en color negro. Además posee unas luces intermitentes en color blanco.

Nissan’s CEO Carlos Ghosn today unveiled the Japanese automaker’s new zero-emission electric-car - the Nissan LEAF. The model is scheduled to be launched in late 2010 in Japan, United States and Europe. The medium-sized hatchback, which comfortably seats five adults, is powered by lithium ion cells that power the 80 kW (107-hp) electric motor with a peak torque of 208 lb-ft. On a full-charge, the Nissan LEAF allows for a driving range of 100 miles with a top speed of 87 mph. Charging time takes approximately 8 hours on a standard 200V outlet.

However, buyers can opt for the DC 50kW quick-charger, which recharges the battery up to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. Nissan expects production capacity to reach 200,000 units a year by 2012. The first couple of units will be produced at the company’s Oppama, Japan, with additional capacity planned for Smyrna, Tennessee.

The lithium-ion batteries, which cost around $10,000 per vehicle, will be produced in Zama, Japan, with additional capacity planned for the U.S., UK and Portugal. Pricing for the vehicle is expected to come in around $30,000 for the U.S. market. Nissan said that it wants to mass market its electric vehicles globally by 2012.

I recently had one of those encounters you read about so often, it seems like a cliche. I was off to meet a friend who lives a few towns away. He was in the process of moving out of state and I wanted to get some pictures of the '67 Nova wagon he had put so much work into (nice ride, and a post for another time). Driving down the main drag, I caught the telltale glimpse of some sheet metal that screamed "pre-seventies". Sinking into the soil next to a small commercial strip of buildings was a mid-fifties classic, whose make I won't mention (feel free to insert the vehicle of your choice). There was something sprayed on the windshield that looked like the remnants of a price. My curiosity getting the best of me, I pulled a quick u-turn, figuring it was at least worth stopping to ask the ineveitable. As I entered the small office next door, I wondered how many had come before me with the same inquiry. The older gentleman explained that the car had been his. Twenty five years ago, he had parked it there and given it to his son who was going to restore it. The car had not moved since. Of course it was not for sale. The faded white lettering wasn't a price, but rather a faded, scrawled "No". As for the brief knowing glance that passed between father and son... was that the look of resignation or bemusement?

America's Northwood University and China's Jilin University are collaborating on a program to train car dealers for China, the globe's biggest vehicle market.

Northwood says about 30 Chinese students will attend classes at its campus in Cedar Hill, Texas. Northwood also has campuses in Midland, Mich., and West Palm beach, Fla.

Jilin University is based in Changchun, China.

The students are participating in Northwood's established four-year degree program in automotive management and marketing.

Automakers sold 1.2 million cars and trucks in China last month, compared with 838,000 in the U.S. China has about 1.3 billion people, while the U.S. has about 300 million.

Jeremy Clarkson and his crew should definitely review more Mercedes after-marketing tuning companies. They aired a show with a Brabus not too long ago. Although the did enjoy the massive power and roaring engine, the car's handling was a big issue. I think they should put Kleemann to the test. There is such as huge industry today devoted to Mercedes Benz tuning. Why not bring Kleemann, Brabus and Lorinser on the show to compare power, comfort, design, handling and shear madness? They should even have a Mercedes challenge with each car. I think an episode with May, Hammond and Clarkson battling each other with outrageous after-market Merceds beats would be a pretty entertaining episode. They should have their own mini-gumball through the U.K or even around Europe.

Kleemann Mercedes Benz deserves to be on the Top Gear show. I'm sure James would love to talk about the tedious engine upgrade systems and how different they are to regular Mercedes vehicles.
