Although we're focusing this site on South Texas hotels, in truth you can book accommodations anywhere in Texas or the U.S. with a few clicks.<br /><br />This site is one of many operated by <a href="http://aspengroup.net/" target="_blank">The Aspen Group<span style="font-size:78%;">©</span></a>, a family owned, San Antonio based web hosting/web design and travel service firm. Since we're actually in South Texas, and we regularly travel around South Texas all the time, I thought it would be fun to have a guide to some of the more "offbeat" places you might want to visit while in our "neck o' the woods."<br /><br />So over the next days, weeks, months...well, until I keel over, I plan to share stories of places I've visited, interesting South Texas people we've come to know and love as well as provide some in depth coverage via audio, video, or simply photographs compiled over the years through our various wanderings and careers.<br /><br />The first example might better be described as in "Central Texas" albeit it's only an hour's drive from San Antonio, technically it's in the Texas Hill Country. However I haven't set up our Hill Country hotel directory yet...it's coming...and I really love this story. I conducted the interviews for this piece 15 or 20 years ago, but the story is as good today as it was back then, and to my knowledge it's one of the only on-line recordings in existence of the key participants<br /><br />This South Texas Hotels feature is about Stonehenge II in Hunt, Texas between the forks of the Guadalupe river in Kerr County. The voices you'll hear are those of Al Sheppard and his pal Doug Hill.<br /><br />Al came up with this "brainstorm" - Doug, who did masonry work by trade back then, and may still for all I know, was the muscle and to some extent the instigator.<br /><br />The background:<br /><br />It started when Doug found a large flat rock and approached Al saying it might look good sitting in the middle of Al's beautiful but rather barren 22 acre property. Al agreed, but then decided it needed "just a little something more."<br /><br />I'll let the photo essay fill in some of the remaining gaps and then I'll give you an update as well as links to find out more about Stonehenge II, Kerrville and hotels in around the Texas Hill Country.<br /><br />Feel free to comment. The comments will be monitored since this site is associated with a business and will likely attract "Sploggers" - slimy spam commentators.<br /><br />I also will be working on the blog design to make it more in line with the main page of SouthTexasHotels.com.<br /><br />Welcome and enjoy. If you have any questions about travel in South Texas, please feel free to use the "contact" button on the right (once I set it up).<br /><br />Thanks again for visiting, stop by often. I have a lot of tall tales to tell...<strike>all</strike> most all of them true...well, they're all true, but there could be a few embellishments.<br /><br />We're Texans after all...everything is bigger in Texas, including our story telling.<br /><br />I hope you enjoy this feature of South Texas Hotels and will stop by often, whether you're traveling or not.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><object width="396" height="330" class="BLOG_video_class" id="BLOG_video-30428d14430a24cc" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="movie" value="http://www.blogger.com/img/videoplayer.swf?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3DqAAAAKXn9zyzXTyW6NoE_4ojujpDM9bJAwA3RSEGLACUT0jcCepNmUieKdLNn2PZBPz1rSN6vLTd0CrvCRZbfTX3YQi45NNdGbk5CLzBiiuZcG8sGSl7yivdoZF0rgm5a5ECXcXDvq9WUG9LMQvGRpFvz8vN1TIdi1kpaYkWGtwz4B-IBDu3BDkt7D_EQYNmgY9Eie0Q66IK44M92dQviIiSSM5Ejt6Q0VDIJlBozzvUuzxv%26sigh%3DTBSzJC0Avyc6nTvroz9R6ju5S1g%26begin%3D0%26len%3D86400000%26docid%3D0&nogvlm=1&thumbnailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2FThumbnailServer2%3Fapp%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D30428d14430a24cc%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw320%26sigh%3DLSCqrbAXGcw4nUy54ZUBS_bH0zU&messagesUrl=video.google.com%2FFlashUiStrings.xlb%3Fframe%3Dflashstrings%26hl%3Den"><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"><embed width="396" height="330" src="http://www.blogger.com/img/videoplayer.swf?videoUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvp.video.google.com%2Fvideodownload%3Fversion%3D0%26secureurl%3DqAAAAKXn9zyzXTyW6NoE_4ojujpDM9bJAwA3RSEGLACUT0jcCepNmUieKdLNn2PZBPz1rSN6vLTd0CrvCRZbfTX3YQi45NNdGbk5CLzBiiuZcG8sGSl7yivdoZF0rgm5a5ECXcXDvq9WUG9LMQvGRpFvz8vN1TIdi1kpaYkWGtwz4B-IBDu3BDkt7D_EQYNmgY9Eie0Q66IK44M92dQviIiSSM5Ejt6Q0VDIJlBozzvUuzxv%26sigh%3DTBSzJC0Avyc6nTvroz9R6ju5S1g%26begin%3D0%26len%3D86400000%26docid%3D0&nogvlm=1&thumbnailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2FThumbnailServer2%3Fapp%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D30428d14430a24cc%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw320%26sigh%3DLSCqrbAXGcw4nUy54ZUBS_bH0zU&messagesUrl=video.google.com%2FFlashUiStrings.xlb%3Fframe%3Dflashstrings%26hl%3Den" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed></object><br /></div><br /><br /><br />This is an aerial view of the original Stonehenge from <a href="http://www.megalithic.co.uk/" target="_blank">The Megalithic Portal</a><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.southtexashotels.com/talltales/uploaded_images/Stonehenge_aerial_0295-751093.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://www.southtexashotels.com/talltales/uploaded_images/Stonehenge_aerial_0295-751090.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />This is an aerial view thanks to Google Earth of the area near Hunt, Texas where Stonehenge II is located.
