Gymnastics

Avery started gymnastics today and loved it by the time she left! She wasn't too sure at first, but once she got started, she started having so much fun. Her favorite thing to do so far is to swing on the bar.

She is signed up for classes every Monday and Tuesday from 10:45-11:15 @ San Diego Gymnastics Academy here in IB.

Avery is 2 years old!

Today is Avery's birthday! There is nothing special happening today. She does, however have her 2 year check up with Dr. Hansen.

Her stats from her appt. are:
33 1/4" tall
26 lbs even

She had a pretty good growth spurt from last year. She went from the 20-25th% range to the 50th%. He said if she stays on this growing curve she will be around 5'5" when she is done growing. That would make her taller than mommy & daddy who are both only 5'2"! Only time will tell..........

Dr. Hansen said that she is very smart for her age and that we should continue to read to her alot to keep her mind stimulated. She LOVES books, so we already do a lot of reading.
Avery was being pretty shy, so she wouldn't do much talking for him. She did get out a 3 word sentence and he thought that was pretty good. When we told him she says 6 word sentences, his response was "WOW! She is definitely advanced".

She has certainly hit the terrible 2's. She has herself a little attitude and her sharing days are over. I feel so sorry for her little friends who we are working on her sharing skills with (again!).

She loves to give and receive lots of hugs and kisses. She loves people. She is little miss social!

She is back in her big girl bed again. She likes it SO much better now than when we first tried her in it back in March. The crib is down for good and put away!

Her birthday party is on Saturday, May 23rd.

New puppy

We bought Avery a new puppy for her birthday! She is a golden retriever, born 3-24-09.

Her name is Morgan Kaila (pronounced kah-ee-lah)

We called a local breeder today to see if he had any still available that he had posted on kijiji.com. He told us he had two left and that we could pick one up today!

She came to us house trained and can sit & shake on command.

Avery's mom mom and pop pop got this jumper for her. She had so much fun in it once she got used to it. My cheeks were hurting from laughing at her.

Big girl bed

This is Avery's new trundle bed!

After getting matching curtains. I do have new curtain rods for them to go on and I will be getting curtain weights (per the suggestion from a friend) so that they will hang better.

After a few days of her climbing out the bed every time I walked out of the room, I decided that she wasn't quite ready for it yet. She did well a few times, but for the most part she was in and out a lot! If I lay nex to her, she will fall asleep within minutes. This was not a habit that I wanted to form. Naps became almost non-existant because we played the in and out of bed game the entire time.

Her crib has been set up again. She goes right in, lays down and is asleep quickly. This is what the room looks like now.....And there is still room to keep the playhouse in there. (Believe it or not!)

Brother's 3rd birthday in heaven

Today we went to the cemetery to wish Austin, Braylen, Cody and Dade a Happy 3rd Birthday in heaven.

After the cemetery we went to Jerome's buy Avery's new trundle bed.

After Jerome's we went to eat lunch at King's Fish House. It was yummy as always!

Christmas 2008

David decided to take video only, so I'll have to see if I can get that uploaded on here at some point.

Avery turned the corner from the hall way and immediately saw her Step 2 50's Diner. She ran right over to that and played with it for the entire day. She had no desire for any of the presents under the tree so I had to open them all up for her.

Getting her the diner was not on my list at all. I had debated long and hard whether to get her a play kitchen. I went to Toys R Us on Christmas Eve to find the shelves just about bare! There were no play kitchens left...at all. I had seen that they had several diner's in the front of the store. I went back to them and put one in my cart and debated and debated on whether to get this one. I decided to go for it. It ended up being the big hit this year!

1st trip to Disneyland

We took Avery to Disneyland for the first time today. Even though she only went on one ride, Pirates of the Carribean (which she hated!), she had fun. Our day was cut really short due to the smoke and ash from the fire nearby.

She got to see Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale.

PooPoo on the potty!

Avery went poopoo on the potty for the first time today!

We have a 20 gallon tupperware container in the bathroom with her bath toys in it. She plays with those while sitting on her potty. She loves just to sit there and play.

I've decided that I won't reward her with tangible items like new toys or candy. She gets loads of praise, claps and high 5's. That's all she needs :)

I think I may go and buy some pull ups to make the bathroom trips easier. I'm not ready to throw underwear on her just yet.

Two days in a row

Avery went pee pee on the potty yesterday AM and again this AM. Our morning trick is to sit her on the potty as soon as she gets out of bed. During the day, depending on her mood, she will either sit happily (so we just sing our ABC's and 123's, or other songs) or she throws a fit and we just put a diaper back on and let her go about her business.

She will be 16 months old in a week.

Pee pee on the potty!

I stuck Avery on her potty before I put her in the tub this AM and she went pee pee on the potty!! She had no clue what she did, but, YAY!!! My baby is growing up........

14-15 months old

Avery's hair needs some major help! It is long in the front and 1/2 bald in the back. I want to get it cut, but I also want it all to grow out to one length. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I can't stand it in her eyes all day long. I guess, if it doesnt bother her, it shouldn't bother me?
She refuses to let me touch her hair so that means, no pretty barrettes, pig tails, headbands.....nothing. I can't even get a hat on her for more than a minute.

She absolutely LOVES books! She typically has a book in her hand all day long.
She has a new princess sofa/bed that she hangs out on a lot either watching TV or "reading".

If you point to Avery and say "Who is this?", she says "A". If she sees a picture of herself she gets all excited and points to it and says "A!" So as of now, Avery refers to herself as "A"

We took the bottle away from her "cold turkey" at 14 months and the transition to the sippy cup went pretty smooth. Once she figured out that she had to tilt her head back to get the drink out, all was good.

As of today, she still only has 4 teeth. Her 2 top and 2 bottom teeth.

She has an appointment with Dr. Hansen tomorrow, so I will post her stats when we get back.

**Update from the doctor's**
Height~30" = 40%
Weight~20.14 = 20%
Head~ 46

She has been on the same growing curve since birth, so Dr. Hansen is ok with her progress. She is nice and healthy!

He checked the hermangioma on her head and he thinks hers will be gone by the time she is 5. (They can take up to 9-10 years to go away) It is flattening out and getting much lighter in color. He said he saw some brown on it too which is a good sign :)

Beach 8/8/08

She liked the beach much better than the last time, but she still isn't too sure about it. This time she would actually walk holding my hand instead of needing to be held the entire time. Hopefully in the next few weeks we can start going to the beach daily to get her used to it.

New table and chairs

I am not typically an Ikea fan, but I saw this table and chair set, and thought it would be perfect for Little Miss Avery. We went and bought it yesterday afternoon and she absolutely loves it!
She does not like being in the highchair, so all of her meals will now be at her new little table.
She is such a big girl now. No more baby...........

She was not a huge fan of the beach. As soon as she fell down for the first time and got sand on her hands, the fun was over.

1 year Dr. update

Avery's stats from yesterday are:

19lbs 10ozs
27 1/2" tall
46 cm head

She is still on the smaller side. Her height and weight are proportionate. Her head is still BIG.

Poor Avery got several shots and she was NOT happy. I debated and debated whether or not to have Avery get the MMR shot because of the whole autism controvery. I went ahead and let her get it. We already had a measles outbreak here in California recently, so anything is possible. I'd rather be safe than sorry. It was the right decision for "our" family.

Avery is also anemic. We will try to give her foods with iron and see if it helps her levels at all. We go back for a re-test on June 23rd.
