The reason for the layoff, besides my usual procrastinating self, is there haven't been any movies worth seeing lately. Since my last update I only saw four movies I hadn't previously seen. But the tides are changing. This week Sin City comes out, later in April we can look forward to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Of course May Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1106553126926232292005-01-24T01:33:00.000-06:002005-01-24T01:55:07.893-06:00Same old, same old...
I have never seen the original Assault on Precinct 13 but I think I'd like too after seeing this remake. There really isn't too much to say here. It's New Years Eve in Detroit Michigan and precinct 13 is scheduled to close at midnight. Most of the equipment and staff have already moved, and there is only a skeleton crew working to oversee the buildings last night of use. A snow storm hits and Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1106551944698877242005-01-24T01:12:00.000-06:002005-01-24T01:32:24.700-06:00In Good Company
In Good Company is one of those movies that is unabashedly a "feel good" movie. It's not the kind of film that is going to break any new ground. It's nothing we haven't seen before. Yet, you come out of it really enjoying it. Even when parts might feel a little too unrealistic you don't care. You watch the film, love the characters and want the happy ending. It tells the story of two men who Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1105849064195050532005-01-15T22:08:00.000-06:002005-01-15T22:17:44.196-06:00Circle of lame...
I recently saw Meet the Fockers. I really liked Meet the Parents so I figured this one should be pretty funny. I saw the trailer and started to worry. I saw the movie anyway and it ended up being kind of lame. Yeah there are some funny parts, but for the most part it's filled with those moments that are supposed to be funny. Not much to say here except it's a rehash of the first movie. Ben Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1105345575715737462005-01-10T02:07:00.000-06:002005-01-10T02:26:15.716-06:00Always protect yourself
I don't have children but I think that one of the toughest things about being a parent would be when to stop being overprotective of your child. It seems like parents of young children are on guard 24/7. They have to be, I mean a three year old can't comprehend the danger inherent in life. On the same note though, when your child gets older when/how do you let them willfully accept the risks Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1105322646705863812005-01-09T19:36:00.000-06:002005-01-09T20:04:06.706-06:00Three for the road...
I've always enjoyed James L. Brooks movies. As good as it gets is a classic with me. When I heard about Spanglish I figured it was a can't miss with the cast and Brooks at the helm. Well it did miss. There are some good moments and the acting is fine but it never really picks what this story is truly about. It feels like a writing assignment in screenwriter's class where the goal is to depictTyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1102923457724621152004-12-13T01:22:00.000-06:002004-12-13T01:37:37.726-06:00Here we go again...
I loved Ocean's Eleven. It had so many things going for it; a really cool celebrity cast, a really cool villain, really cool good guys, really cool gadgets, really cool humor, and a really cool and clever heist. In other words, it was really cool. Ocean's Twelve on the other hand is just cool. It had most of the same of the elements of the first one except the heist part was really kind of lameTyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1102435449386449682004-12-07T10:01:00.000-06:002004-12-07T10:04:09.386-06:00I'd buy this DVD...

The Incredibles is, for lack of a better term, Incredible. The animation is spectacular, as should be expected, and the story is a large helping of fun! In typical Pixar fashion it has enough story and jokes to please the adults, and enough humor and wackiness to make the kids happy. The story of a Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1099899185174805532004-11-08T01:45:00.000-06:002004-11-08T01:33:05.173-06:00Two for oneI've been slacking off a bit lately and I have too many reviews to catch up on. As a result here are a couple of quick reviews which are a week late.
Sideways is the kind of movie that really is more about these particular characters in this time and place then it is about plot. During the course of the film we come to meet Miles and Jack. Miles is depressed, we soon understand why. I Heart Huckabees is a very strange film in almost every way. It's strange in the cast; Jason Schwartzman, Jude Law, Naomi Watts, Mark Whalberg, Dustin Hoffman, and Lily Tomlin. It's strange in the way action will just stop to explain strange existential concepts and, in an effort to display and understand them, peoples faces will just break off like jigsaw puzzle pieces and float around the Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1098551121210801032004-10-23T11:18:00.000-05:002004-10-23T12:09:06.096-05:00It takes two to tango....
Okay, I'll be the first to admit this isn't the kind of movie I usually see. I have never been too impressed with "chick flicks". Some I've liked and some I've hated but for the most part I just stay away. I mean I'm a guy, what do you expect? So to understand why I'd go to the theater to see Shall We Dance? we have to go back a couple of years. In April of 2003 I drove to Champaign, Illinois Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1098547940084369212004-10-23T10:34:00.000-05:002004-10-23T11:12:20.083-05:00Did you change the color of the boat?
What if when you die your loved ones could watch a movie of your life? A movie comprised of your memories to give the viewer a feel of who you were? Friday Night Lights is based off a book written in 1989 that chronicles a Texas high school football teams bid for a state championship. As we would expect there are many colorful characters that make up the team. There is the cocky running back who collects brochures from colleges and waits for the day he can buy his Mercedes Benz. There is the quiet Quarterback who sees football has his Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1097458464232167492004-10-10T20:33:00.000-05:002004-10-11T10:28:58.476-05:00Freedom cost a buck o' five!
Wow! I mean really, prepare to piss yourself from laughing so hard. Team America: World Police is the new film from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. It is a hilarious look at the war on terror as told with marionettes. Team America is an elite police force who responds to threats of terrorism where ever they may rise. Firemen run into a burning building. As you would, expect flames dance around everywhere. They go in to rescue a couple of guys still trapped inside. They find some and begin to make their descent back out to safety. Except one of the firemen thinks there is another man trapped. He goes on his own to save him. He finds the victim and successfully gets him out of the building. A friend of mine saw the ads for Sky Captain and the World of tomorrow and swore up and down that he had seen this before. That it was a remake of something. I told him I didn't think it was but he still wasn't convinced. Well having seen the movie I know how he felt. Sky Captain is the distant cousin of a movie like Independence Day. That is right football fans, today is the kickoff for the 2004 NFL season. I'm no Nostradamus, but this is how I see the season shaping up!
NFC North
1) Green Bay Packers- On the decline but still good enough to win a weak division.
2) Minnesota Vikings- Explosive "O", no "D"
3) Chicago Bears- Good for more wins than people think.
4) Detroit Lions- Young team on the way up, but not there yet.Tyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09125971433559812721noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5099987.post-1093850269622616592004-08-30T01:27:00.000-05:002004-08-30T02:17:49.623-05:00
There have been some classic comic book stories in the last 20 years that deal with sacrificing for the greater good: Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, Almost any Spider-man story, The Dark Phoenix saga from the X-men just to name a few. Hero owes a lot to these great comic tales. Seemingly superpowered people fighting for what they believe is best for the world.
